[Olympics] Paul Hamm wins Men's all around

Recommended Posts

Going back and making changes is completely uncalled for, and undermines the whole process. I'm sure they could find other judging errors if they went back through the tapes (which is what they'd have to do to be 100% fair in that aspect) Its much like having a football game, then complaining *after* its over about a holding penalty that could change the outcome.

Plain and simple the rules are rules, and the Koreans don't deserve exceptions to the rules, nor does anyone else. Learn to work within the rules, or just don't bother showing up.

Gold medal was given "by mistake" to white American instead of Yang, South Korean. Medal will not be given to Yang despite the incontrovertible fact that he scored better than Hamm.

Right, because we all know that nothing but white people run the Olympics...

i will agree the judging in these olympics has been terrible...guy from canada finished 4th behind a romanian who fell...in the vault...wtf? initial appeal was turned down...by the head of the international gymnastics thingamabob...who is...haha, romanian...get that. :s

The american announcers right? ;) No surprise here. Anyway Hamm got gold, all discussion is moot.

Doesn't matter who stated it. It was a fact, they showed the error. You are only supposed to have a total of three 'holds' (where you are motionless) on the parallel bars. The S Korean did it 4 times, which should have given him an automatic -0.2 deduction...which wasn't given.

At least he got the gold :p

That's the american spirit, always #1 no matter how. Generousity is certainly not an american virtue ;)

A honest silver is worth more than an undeserved gold, he would've been known as THE man of the olympics if he had've given the gold back and accepted silver.

Even if they went back and rescored for the korean there is also a deduction the judges missed that would put him right back where he started

Also after seeing his poor routine in the horizontal bar compitition he defiantly doesnt deserve the title of mens all around gold medal winner

A honest silver is worth more than an undeserved gold, he would've been known as THE man of the olympics if he had've given the gold back and accepted silver.

Yoohoo? You listening? Why should Hamm give it to the guy who wouldn't have even medaled had his score been properly given?

Hamm will forever be known as the guy who won a gold, based on calculation errors....give it up already!

It was said in an interview with a former gymnast that the Korean should have had another deduction to his scoring which wasn't caught. He was only allowed 3 holds in his routine, he clearly performed four. So if the scoring was correctly done, Hamm would still have one gold.

I knew there was something wrong with Hamm's final score.

The South Korean's challenged the final rankings, and thus after some inspection, it seems the judges involved has been suspended. They're not allowed to change the metal standings though.

I feel sorry for the Korean. Because of biased refs, he lost his dream.

That's a bunch of crap. It wasn't bias towards an American at all. They accidently set the start value of that Korean dudes routine by 1/10 of a point. It was an accidental mistake, that shouldn't have been made. There was *nothing* wrong with Hamm's score, you're fabricating that too.

Keep the focus of your hate on the judges: they, and ONLY they are responsible for the scoring error on the one Korean gymnasts routine.

They also missed the .2 deduction that would have rendered this entire discussion moot. It's all on the judges, not the gymnasts. They all got the medals that they deserved.

Ha, yep, that post was made before I did some research on it. And before NBC replayed it with better commentary. Anyways, it was human error, but still jeoperdized the final standings. Paul Hamm should keep his gold, but I think the Korean should have gotten a gold too. It's horrendous to me that the IOC would ask Hamm to give back the gold. That's just wrong, but there's nothing wrong with sharing the gold: they did this in Sydney. I don't understand why the IOC want Hamm to give back the gold... Just create another one and have them share it.

    • Apple finally brings the slider for Liquid Glass and many other changes by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off the official live stream of the WWDC 2026 annual developer event. The company began its latest wave of announcements with changes to the controversial Liquid Glass design language, which debuted last year across Apple's entire software ecosystem. A lot of people didn't like Liquid Glass when it first arrived on iPhone and other devices last year. The devices were plagued with transparency issues and whatnot. While Apple improved things over the year, it has now added a new Liquid Glass slider that lets you switch the transparency from clear to opaque. In other words, you can choose the amount of Liquid Glass you want to see on your iPhone instead of an on/off switch, which would only give you two choices. The sidebars now expand to the edge of the window. When you scroll the UI sideways, the refraction continues beneath the sidebar rather than being cut off at the boundary. Moreover, sidebar icons keep their color. Apple has changed the way Liquid Glass is rendered across the system. There is a separation between different layers, which makes buttons in the toolbar stand out from the background. Apple said it "deeply appreciates" the feedback it received from users and has made adjustments to Liquid Glass. New customizations allow Liquid Glass to improve contrast and enable a more vibrant appearance. The new icons have sharper edges, which addresses an old complaint that iOS 26 icons look blurry at smaller sizes. The upgraded Liquid Glass, Apple said, is building on last year's design upgrades by "integrating additional layers of Liquid Glass directly into the artwork itself." Apple's upgraded design language is available on iOS 27, which is arriving this year with no changes to the list of supported iPhones.
    • FWIW, I've been using Helium on Linux and Windows since the first time it was mentioned here. Actually, maybe a day or 3 before, as I searched for it when I saw it mentioned on the MX Linux forums. Haven't had a single issue on either OS. Not bad for a beta.
    • See up until a few years ago y'all could get away with simply denying your war crimes, pretending it never happened. Unfortunately for you, it's the 2020s and Israel's genocide has been livestreamed in real time. You have to be dumber than a rock to think anyone still believes your propaganda. See the cat is already out of the bag. The world already knows who you are so do yourself a favor and just drop the facade. Bet it gets real tiring keep track of all the lies. Take some inspiration from Israeli ministers who boast on live TV they like massacring civilians. Every zionist accusation is after all a confession.
    • He's just reporting what Microsoft posted. https://msmessagecenter.com/MC1381119 It just means that Windows Defender updates will no longer be bundled into the monthly Cumulative Windows security update and will now be a separate download. They'll still be on Microsoft update of course but now they can be released faster.
    • Apple announces iOS 27 with no changes to the list of supported iPhones by Taras Buria At WWDC 2026 in Cupertino, Apple announced iOS 27, the next mobile operating system for compatible iPhones. The update focuses on tweaking and improving last year's iOS 26, particularly in areas like app launch time, Liquid Glass design, and more. Additionally, Apple has reworked Apple Maps with a significantly enhanced Flyover view for a much more realistic view. Apple also promises better performance, smarter search, new Health features, new parental controls, and more. The most important part is that iOS 27 is compatible with all iPhones that can run iOS 26. That means that even the seven-year-old iPhone 11 can run iOS 27 (supposedly better than iOS 26). iOS 27 will be available this Fall, with the first developer betas expected later today. You can follow the live stream here.
