now open WMP10 and choose MSN preview.

wow this actually fixed it for me, I must say I had associated Quicktime to handle .PNG files, I had now removed pngs association with quicktime and still seems to work.

Thanks for the heads up

A few beefs with WMP - Any Ideas on how to get around all these annoyances???

When shuffle is on it shouldn't play the same song 5 times in one day. I'm always turning WMP on for a while, then I shut it down and then back on etc. Each time I start it up it seems to forget what was played previously that day and I'll get some new songs but always one or more repeats from earlier in the day. It would be nice if it kept track of songs that haven't been played and how long ago they were played and use that to determine what to play next. Whoever programmed the shuffle does not have a clue.

Instead of setting it to shuffle you could try leaving it on normal but on the little drop down now playing menu tell it to shuffle to list. It should then play through the tracks in the shuffled order that they appear in the list.

the only gripe i have with the player is the sorting, i don't know how it's possible but i believe microsoft has further crappified the way it sorts songs in the media library.

the media library now always sorts by ARTIST whereas i was able to set it to sort by ALBUM in the 9series.

another problem is in albums with different artists, windows media player will sort by ALBUM first, then the ARTIST, which totally messes up the track orders.

does anyone know of a way or plugin of some sort to make WMP remember the sorting options?

As strange as this may sound but WMP10 has converted me from Winamp and iTunes, it's fan-bloody-tastic :)

I don't like Winamp anymore. The only reason I like iTunes is because it sorts the media library on my computer. I think you can do that in WMP10 too now can't you?

Go to Tools>Options in windows media player. Then click on the library tab and tick the 'retrieve additional information from the internet' box. Then you should be able to click on 'Find Album Info' in either Now Playing or in the media library.. Once it gets an album picture it should show it in the visualization.

that works for CD's that are in the online database, but I have a lot of non-mainstream stuff, and it never finds any info for them. Is there any way to manually put a picture for the album art? (for the energy bliss vis)

is thre ever going to be a way to get full .ogg support in windows media player 10? I know there is a direct show filter that allows you to play them in wmp10, but as far as being able to rate the music, changed id3 tag info, etc, it just seems like there is really limited support for this with the directshow filter.

Thanks

Ok, I -finally- got Info Center View to work, (By setting ****ing -every- regional setting to US...) but it finds no info what so ever about my music. I'm not surprised about this, but is there any way to get it to display -just- tag info, like you could on WMP9? Without it, I really have no use for the program...

I just upgraded and it is working fine for me so far with no obvious bugs. In fact this upgrade fixed a bug that I've had with WMP9 since I did a system restore (WMP9 wouldn't play any *.wma files from my HDD but it did if they were on CD. ) So far so good, except I am not a huge fan of the default skin. So a 9/10 so far from me.

Well, I got tired of messing with WMP10 for now. A lot of you seem to enjoy some of its new features. For me, though, my use of WMP is pretty basic. I click on a music or video file and let it play.

I'm just not into making playlists using the WMP options. I usually just put all the songs I want into a folder, highlight them all and click play. I don't need it to view pictures with it.

I think the only thing I really dislike about it is its shoving down my throat of the online media stuff. I have a WalMart nearby if I want to buy something.

I keep my browsing settings pretty tight, and when I accidentally, or on purpose out of curiosity, click on one of the online media options, the page displays all wavy-like for me. I have to click to my default browser settings to read all the stuff.

Given all that, I'll probably revert to WMP10 eventually...it took me awhile to accept and appreciate WMP9, too.

But it really does look like it has some interesting and versatile features for a lot you to enjoy. I'm not knocking it. It's actually kind of cool. It's just not for me...right now.

My use of WMP is just like Bold's.

So I wish that Microsoft can give us a lite version or a more flexible modular installer.

(But I have no hope in this wish. :p )

That method doesn't even work on mine anymore. I just switched it to view the Napster icon instead. :pinch:

I'm loving a lot of the features in this windows media player 10. The layout and design is supurb for a media player for both video and audio. My only gripe is visually, and that is the buttons and top part of the window are REALLY bevelled which makes it hard to read and look like puke.

What I find odd, is that I've been having problems playing music off my Thinkpad with all other music player I have tried. (I just got it used, so it is a little older). Winamp always seems to sound like it goes underwater or something. Thats weird because WMP10 seems like it is using a lot more resources then winamp.

Anyway to changed this super bevel crap. I think they should have gone for more of a "flattened" theme.

    • Sued and... exonerated. Oh, they learned a lesson alright. They learned that anyone who uses the word "antiturst" in conjunction with "Microsoft" is an idiot, even if that person is Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. That judge ruined the image of the US justice system. Microsoft Edge has a 5.14% market share. Also, Windows is no longer the #1 OS. None of this constitutes a monopoly. Google Chrome, however, has 70.25% share. Also, Google's Android is the #1 OS. Now that's closer to a monopoly.
