Man arrested for not tipping at NY restaurant

Recommended Posts

yeah, hes being paid to run around after your lazy ass and the least you can do is tip him!

I don't even know were lazy comes in, even if you wanted to get your food yourself they wouldn't let you. Besides ITS THERE JOB TO GET YOUR FOOD. I don't tipped when I do peoples booking or taxes I get my flat rate I don't expect any extra money on the side for doing a good job.

The lazy comment just bugs the hell out of me even tho you were not talking to me I go out offten with my girl friend because we don't feel like making anything after working all day, and we shouldn't have to we are tired we have put our time in. So just because we get something to eat we are lazy?? wtf is that?

I don't think a tip should be left unless they do a superb job. I have a few family members who have been waitress' and they would call me cheap for this statement. But this is their fault. The wage isn't great, but I know of people who work a lot harder and get paid less than waiters and waitresses. If they wanted to make good money, they probably shouldn't be working as a lower level peon in the food industry in the first place.

I have heard once that another reason a person tips is because someone has to clean up after them. More of a "Thanks for picking up our trash payment", Although I agree that it has gotten out of hand.

yah the bus boys are supposed to get a portion of the tip that you leave on the table but 90% of the time the waiters don't give them jack. Only reason I know this is because my brother works at Ihop and was a bus boy before he was turned into a waiter. He would always bitch that none of the waiters gave him anything, maybe like 2 or 3 bucks if he was lucky. Once he became a waiter he always tipped the bus boy because he knew how much it sucked to not get his fair share.

Also when we go in there for pancakes or whatever he doesn't even expect a tip from us and he doesn't generally need it to live off of either he usally uses it for beer on the weekends or car parts. But maybe expenses aren't as high in cali? I don't know.

I believe in leaving excellent tips only if you get excellent service.

What I have noticed is that in most respectable restaurants in the US, on average, service is not satisfactory and usually it does not meet my standards. I think this is caused by the mandatory tips. They can give you crap service and you are still forced to tip them.

I've noticed that in most respectable restaurants in Mexico city, on average, service is much better and very often the waiters/waitresses do justify very good tips. I guess it's because harder work is implied when they have to justify their tips, they are not just "given".

When I go to a restaurant I expect beyond excellent, pretty much flawless service. I don't expect excuses of why my food was late, why they missed something, or having to wait for the waiter/waitress to come by because my drink ran out, or them asking if I want another drink when they see that my glass is god damn 3/4th's full. They are supposed to notice these things, it's their job not mine. I pay for that.

Quite honestly I don't care if they're living off the tips or whatever, I have my own problems, they can take care of theirs.

i think its stupid that places like Soprano's Italian and American Grill have this mandatory tip system...it discourages the waitors from doing a "superb job", in some cases.

i got really pissed once when i went to applebees, ordered a chicken fajita, and was served a beef fajita. I told the waitor I wanted a chicken fajita, he said: "chicken, beef, same stuff man (in a jamaican accent)"

Quote: Exactly. The article said that they didn't pay the entire bill, AS WELL AS not leaving a tip.

I thought the article said that he didnt pay the tip, which was included as part of the bill? re-read it.

A simple dictionary search brings up a definition of (Inadequate; insufficient).

The gratuity was added to the bill. By not paying the gratuity, the bill was 'shorted'. It doesn't mean they didn't pay the bill. It just means they didn't pay part of the bill: the gratuity part.

in all fairness, unless the waiter is hurling abuse or actually ruining your night then i think its quite rude to not tip. the guy is going out of his way to carry a plate to your table and ensure your night goes well and if that isnt worth a measly 10% then shame on you.

but that's his job!

australia = not a tipping country, except in gambling

i knew i wasnt going mad. :)

Yeah I don't find it fair. My job is 10X worse than a waitresses job as far as dealing with people goes. And you know what, after tips etc. it's very possible that waitress is almost making as much money as me. And that ****es me off. My job requires a University degree, and then I have to do this type of work and get shat on. So unless they make me happier in a way that I feel like giving them some monies, I'm not gonna tip. Period.

They have a wage, so do I. I don't get rewarded for doing a great job once in awhile. I have to be consistently good if I wanna try to avoid being laid off. And if I'm exceptional I might get promoted. That's life.

So, your base pay is $3 an hour? I think not. Obviously you have never worked in a restaurant.

what are you talking about ?

How are they going out of their way to carry a plate to my table ? That's his god damn job and he's getting paid for that. If carrying a plate from the kitchen to a table is too hard then he should have thought about that before applying for the job.

It's not like tip is his pay. Its a little extra to ensure that waiters/waitresses do a good job no matter what. The restaurant's image is in the waiters' hand... so its pretty obvious that tip exists. Money rules the world, so they ARE going to go out of their way to offer an excellent service... but if the service is crappy, they don't deserve the tip.

I already paid for my food and they do get paid anyway. They gotta work for that little extra. Its only fair.

I find this kinda silly that the guy can be arrested for it and possibly put in Prison for a year over it.

The owner of the store says "This is not a vendetta. This is just about standing up for my waitresses.''

If he really wants to stand up for the waitresses then he should pay them better in the first place, No doubt he will complain and say he needs to put his prices up to cover it, But that is effectivly what he is doing at the moment, congrats on coming up with a sneaky way of earning a lot of cash whist keeping prices low :/

Also, Why is it that its generally felt that waiters "need" to be tipped. People in other carrers/Jobs do a hella lot more work than waiters, but no one tips them

i know, i dont leave that much of a tip unless the girl is really nice, or the guy is just cool

yeah but the sneaky git put it on the bill as a "waiters service" or something like that, So it offically counts has a paid service. However if the customer was unaware of this, there is no way in hell he should be forced to pay

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.5 changelog: Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows (DirectSound and ASIO) Fixes several crashes and memory corruption issues Fixes opening several headerless files at once, which previously dropped all but one Improves batch export by suggesting and remembering the destination folder Fixes accented and non-Latin characters in VST plug-in and compressed-archive file names Adds zstd compression support and updates the archive library Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • I did think about a Echo show once and it would be useful to see what my cameras see. But my brother got one and I changed my mind. Adverts and not really worth the price just to see my cameras. I have a load of dots and a Echo Gen 4, they will do.
    • I asking where you are from or live, because if you don't live in the U.K, why are you so bothered? That is another reason I voted out, E.U and people poking their noses in where they should not be. Sadly we still have it, Trump, and his cronies. Putin as well and no doubt others. It makes no difference what we believe, if we made the right choice or not, we are out. As I said to someone when the news first broke we have voted out, we just need to make the best of it. I have no problems with closer ties to the E.U, we still need to trade. Just don't want to be in their club.
    • So you think I voted out because i am anti-immigrant. I am fed up with those that come over and think that we owe them something. The ones that are at the moment coming over from France where they are already in a safe country because they think and no doubt will get everything chucked at them. While people who were born and bred here get very little. I have nothing against as i have said before those that come here and work. In fact I know full well that our NHS would struggle without them. I do have a problem with those that come over here and try to push their religion and their way of life onto us. My reasons for voting out was because of what the E.U is and is also becoming. I did not agree with Freedom of movement, not because I don't want people over here, but because people need to be checked before being allowed to cross borders and that goes both ways. But my main thing was because the E.U is becoming if not already a united states of Europe. The only reason countries like Poland and Romania joined was because they had no money. When my partner left Poland, she had nothing, Poland had nothing, that is why she left. Wanted to learn something and earn a living. The E.U would have us back according to Michel Barnier. https://www.euronews.com/my-eu...ator-barnier-tells-euronews Why are you so scared to say what country you are in?
    • I wonder what that line really meant...
