can you please stop saying firefox, 1. it's not the engine, 2. you only had to say it once.

KHTML isn't very good. WebCore (Safari) is quite good, though.

KHTML is good, WebCore and KHTML are basically the same, just forked, both pass Acid2, and that's pretty good (only other browser to pass is iCab)

KHTML passed partly because of the revisions made in WebKit. WebKit still has plenty of features KHTML doesn't have (some of which are being proposed for a de-facto HTML 5 spec).

Hmmm

i see 62% goes to FF ....WY???

i think oprera v8.01 rules

for 2days i install FF 1.04 and now 1.05 nothig change

Just a matter of user preference. Although I would assume a good percent of that 62% is not because they find the engine better for their needs, it's only because of rampant fanboyism.

BTW to save you some face, some of your claims in your post are unrealistic. One, I haven't heard of 1.05 released yet (or it's a beta, I dunno). Two, your other two claims seem to come from using Internet Explorer.

Actually tabs are hidden by default and resume isnt supported in FF

Though I'm not sure what that has to do with rendering engines...

1. uhhh Firefox does have tabs

2. I know, this is an infuriating "bug". Go vote for it @ bugzilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=229230

Well maybe whoever started the thread should have put the correct browser engines in your choices to vote them people wouldn't be confused.

It's not too late to edit it if there was a moderator paying attention.

I think already I pointed this out several pages ago.

I still like IE.

mostly because i "grew up" with it...but my router firewall and Norton Internet Security, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware protect me from all the nastiness. as for tabs...I used firefox for some time and i found them irritating for some reason.....ehh. i use alt+tab to switch windows...or sometimes i just *gasp* move the mouse up to the taskbar and select the other window....

That's what happens when I don't use Firefox on a regular basis for like two to three weeks. :D

IE - it views every web page I go to without errors or messed up layout.

586125052

Go to my web page. Messed up layout in IE, right? In Firefox, it's fine. In Safari, it's fine. In Opera, it's fine. My site has valid CSS and near-valid XHTML (besides a custom input style I use that's not in the XHTML spec). Sounds like IE isn't perfect anymore, huh? :p

OK, your site is in the small handful of sites that screw up in IE. It might look better if only IE supported PNG transparency. :pinch:

(OT: your site looks nice. besides that, it's one of the few where the scrolling feels smoother in Firefox versus Opera.)

IE - it views every web page I go to without errors or messed up layout.

586125052

that's because sites are developed with IE in mind. it shouldn't be like that because IE doesn't conform to standards properly.

web pages that are coded properly, following standards, will look like they're supposed to in firefox. if it doesn't, then it's crappy coding.

hehe nice. Everyones missing the point. MYIE2 is good and the new Maxathon is better. Exactly like IE except tabbed browsing, loads faster, more options, set game and match.

586197472

Wow. You accuse others of missing the point, then totally miss it yourself. That's a shame.

This thread is for best browser ENGINE. MYIE2 and Maxathon use IE's engine, therefore your favorite engine would be IE (Trident).

IE - it views every web page I go to without errors or messed up layout.

WRONG.

I vote Gecko. It renders valid code correctly in most cases. KHTML is a little bit more standards-compliant, but that leads to broken pages that aren't valid (many page aren't, yet). Opera's OK, but some sites break in it, I've read. And IE's just way off the standards.

    • Alpine Linux 3.24 released with support for COSMIC Desktop and other improvements by David Uzondu Alpine Linux 3.24 has been released with updated system packages, including Linux kernel 6.18 and Rust 1.96. The team also added IPv6 support to the system installer, and they introduced automatic serial console configuration for headless setups. System76's COSMIC desktop environment is now available in the community repo. System76 originally started building this DE because its developers found GNOME to be pretty limited. Plus, it did not help that with virtually every GNOME update, the changes broke System76's custom desktop extensions. As for system packages, the Alpine team moved GTK+ 3.0 from the main repository to the community repository due to its legacy status. py3-setuptools has been upgraded to version 82.0.0, while the old pkg_resources module has been completely dropped. The team also removed outdated packages that still relied on py3-six and GTK+ 2.0. In addition to that, libsoup 2 has been removed because the library was affected by multiple security vulnerabilities. If you're a GRUB user, the Alpine Team said that you must manually run the grub-install command with your specific device or EFI options right after upgrading your system, otherwise, your computer may fail to boot properly with the newly updated GRUB 2.14 bootloader. New installations of Alpine Linux now offer an optional path to a /usr-merged directory layout if you set the BOOTSTRAP_USR_MERGED environment variable to 1 before you execute the setup-disk command. If you already run an older installation, you can migrate manually by installing the merge-usr package and executing its binary as the root user. The team recommends this layout to align Alpine with modern Linux standards, though you should verify your custom scripts before making the switch. Alpine Linux is a pretty tiny (~5MB) Linux distro built around musl libc, BusyBox, and OpenRC. It's been around since 2005, comes with its own package manager called Alpine Package Keeper (APK), and is widely used in modern cloud computing and software deployment.
