I personally enjoy IE, but will probably be switching to Opera soon.

For all of you that complain about security, I've never had any security or related problem (spyware, hax, hijack...) with any browser. "A browser is only as secure as it's user."

EDIT: I'm not switching anymore, unless one of you can convince me to, or give me a really good reason why I should. If you do, then I'll switch for sure! My IE is very compact, simple, and nice (look here). I've tried various different browsers, and haven't had much problems with any of them. IE is comfortable for me, but if you still feel so inclined to tell me how your browser is so much better than mine, do so, and again.. maybe I'll switch?

I disagree with said statement. In IE if you accidentily go into the wrong site you can become infested with malware, viruses, security exploits. Why is this? Because there are many many security risks in it.

Sure, FireFox and Opera is not 100% secure, but nothing is. Point is, they are a helluva lot more secure than IE. So if you one day click the wrong link, nothing will happen.

The best engine is Opera, but certainly not IE. IE still does not know html/css/xhtml properly and it is an insecure browser.

Perhaps that's the reason why more people like Firefox, 'cause it isn't bloated?

not quite. its because Opera isn't advertised as much as FF. almost like apple ipods. ppl buy this inferior product because of too much ads. do you see any other mp3 player ads that much? no.

Firefox is the McDonalds of web browsers, there food sucks..but since they advertise so much it sells.

I myself hate firefox, it takes like a minute to load up (I know it can be "tweaked" so it doesn't, but why waste time having to tweak something that should already happen?)

I use Opera all the time and love it, loads pages better than firefox, opens faster, uses less RAM, looks better.

I totally agree with you there!

Its so amusing to see that people are discussing web browsers when the original topic is Rendering Engine..

Even after Jamey has pointed out that the thread is not about a browser they still continue

lol@all

Its also sad to see that KHTML got such a small number of votes though it is one of the best and not to say that the first engine which passed ACID2.

But then again its understandable as all are discussing about a browser rather than engine.

For all those ignorant nerds KHTML is the engine for Konqueror and Safari :)

WebKit passed first, then iCab, then KHTML (or something like that), or possibly Opera passed before KHTML.

And yeah, IE7, Firefox and Opera aren't rendering engines, they are browsers, this thread is about rendering engines, people need to read more.

Sure I have!

I use a Gecko based browser (Camino) for 99% of all my browsing.

I am not sure why people think Gecko is so bad on OS X Camino works fine, although I still use Safari.

Because it's slow, much slower than WebKit (due to Gecko's choice of API's on OS X)

Gecko is the best rendering engine.

Firefox the best browser.

Not only is firefox better, but if it's missing a feature I can usually find an extension in a couple of minutes to suit my needs. The benefits of having a great extension/plugin community are good :)

    • Same, price was right for my Home, laptop, phone. Works great!
    • Brave and Firefox. I’ve been using them as my primary browsers for a while now, perfect combo
    • They want Ring 0 access. Should be a hard no. A middle ground needs to be found.
