"Lost" TV Show - Currently Season 2 (US aired)

Yes, next episode

So any updates on the spoiler rule? What's allowed, what's not allowed? How long you have to wait to discuss last Episode (OUT of Spoiler tag)?

What kind of stuff about future episode is spoiler? A guess/speculation considered?

Anything that could ruin the plotline for anyone else should be considered in a spoiler tag IMO. There are many people who are just tuning in and then finding this thread and going all the way through it.

Might as well be curteous to everyone I believe, however no strict rule has been set down.

Well then the question is what would you consider "ruining the plotline"? Because if you're worried that the plot might be ruined for people just tuning in to the series, then that means every single post would have to be spoiler tagged since it talks about the current plot! Know what I mean? I just think that people need to use care in revealing future things that haven't aired yet.

Imagine, if something big happens (like the Shannon thing), then there would be at least 5 or 6 pages full of blacked out text in which people are going to read anyways. I say that if the episode has played in the West coast, it is fair game to not tag it. Maybe there needs to be a UK thread for Lost started up as well to make it a little more fair for them if it's really necessary.

I see your point... well I'm guessing that one week would be fine (mind you I'm not a mod or admin, so this is just my own thoughts on the matter). Take for example the Shannon thing, which went down this last week, use the spoiler tag on everything that might suggest what happen for a period of one week. Next week the same thing, anything that's big, use the spoiler tag for one week. If people have had a chance to catch up by the next episode, that's their problem. That's my opinion of course

That actually sounds like a good idea. (Y)

So ONE week spoiler taggage it is! :)

agreed. One should presume that there would be updated knowledge about the show on an official "Lost" topic. Thus they shouldn't complain if they fall under last weeks information. UK'ers beware however. I'm not even sure how to use a spoiler tag. But the whole "Shannon thing" I think is a little messed up, this season doesn't seem to uphold alot of questions as season 1 did, which I thought was what made the show so compelling. The fear of the unknown. This season just seems to go in loopholes of itself, and I know lost (fan boys) will attack me for this but don't get me wrong, I love the show, just wished that there was more ... "weird" and "un-explainable" things. Makes the show more interesting, as it has been in the past. And just to add, I've come to realize that all of the characters have their names for specific reason. Such as john Lock the famous philosipher Redreau is also a philosipher and he was supposingly in the show at somepoint?

There are still a TON of weird and unexplainable things this season...

1) The purpose/origination of the hatch

2) The purpose of the radio transmision of the numbers

3) Where is Walt? (Or what happened to him?)

4) What happned to the tailies?

5) Who is Mr. Eko?

etc. and so on and so forth.

Remember, the producers and writers of the show have made it abundantly clear that they have had about 5 seasons worth of material since the beginning so I have a feeling that we will be getting MANY more questions than answers in the seasons to come. :)

We're only on episode 6 of probably 22-24 episodes. PLENTY more to cover! ;)

2) The purpose of the radio transmision of the numbers

3) Where is Walt? (Or what happened to him?)

4) What happned to the tailies?

5) Who is Mr. Eko?

Out of those, the one I want answered the most is the origin of the numbers & the hatch. After that would have to be where is Walt/what happened to him.

FIVE?????

Five seasons each lasting 24 episodes?

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeit!!!!

That's a lot of questions! (And Bandwith) :)

Just be curteous to other members on major points. If you go out and say something that is essential to the plot it's going to be needing a spoiler tag.

Little things like "What happened with ______ grabbing the ______ for ______ ? What did he/she say?" most likely can just be put down normal. If it's something like "OMG a second plane is in the series!" then, well spoiler that ****!

Use common sense here, that's all I'm really asking. I for one don't want things ruined if I miss an episode and check the thread to see what people thought.

Anyway.. 5 seasons, I haven't heard of that. I don't know if it can hold out that long really. That's pretty nuts to be honest.

I think there are already rules about posting spoilers in Neowin... and a thread also. So lets start "talking" again about LOST. Who believes the Kentaro guy in the ABC forums? have someone else read them???

ive read what he had to say, its pretty crazy... it feels almost impossible to believe just because our own common sense wont let us, but this guy has so much detail in what he says in things and it makes sense too. he even can very well and very technically link things from the show to the "real thing"

i find it hard to believe and yet hard not to believe at the same time.

what do you guys think?

Yeah I would like the link as well.

On another note, I found something really interesting on one of the 'viral' websites for the show. I'm going to put this behind a spoiler tag since it might be slightly spoilerish although I don't believe so. I think it just raises more questions than answers but if you're curious, venture on!

If you go to http://thehansofoundation.org site and click on 'Active Projects', you can now click on the Life Extension project and you will see a report about an old orangutang. Most people already know about this change but there is more and I found something really interesting.

If you place your mouse over the last sentence in the memo, you will be able to click through a link that will take you to another page. This new page looks like the original access denied pages but it's all screwed up (ala ilovebees.com or the oceanic airline website). However, there is also a form box with a submit button in the middle of it all. I decided to look at the source of the page and found something of interest towards of the end...

<div style="position:absolute; top:185px; left:246px; visibility: hidden; z-index: 5;" id="datestamp"
>110,101,103,97,104,110,101,112,111,67|102,105,103,46,111,104,103,95,114,116,108,47,115,101,103,97,109,105</div>

I thought this was kind of weird so I was thinking what could those numbers have possibly meant. So I took a while guess and guess they might have been decimal ASCII codes.

I looked up the codes and translated them to get this message:

negahnepoCfig.ohg_rtl/segami

After some thinking, i tried reversing it and I got the following:

images/ltr_gho.gifCopenhagen

I typed Copenhagen into the form box and clicked on submit and it took me to that image that was in the link above. I've attached the image to the post for those that might want to see it. If you take careful note, you'll notice that the confidential letter was pre-dating the press release about 'Joop' on the actual page.

I wonder what all of this means?!?!?!

Learned something VERY important

11/16 - Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse reveal: It's always possible [shannon] could pop up in someone's backstory. But she is definitely dead. When a character dies on the island, they stay dead. In the same moment that we decided Shannon would die, [we also decided that] Ana-Lucia would be responsible for that death. It would be the first time one castaway was responsible for killing another, and it would give so much inherent conflict and trauma [heading to] the merge. We're walking a very tenuous tightrope with her, but we feel that over the course of the next two episodes the audience will hopefully get a better understanding for that character and what she's been through. [shannon] was shot. Walt's disappearance and, ultimately, Michael's efforts to reunite with him were part of a grander plan. As we move into the middle run of episodes, we're definitely emphasizing the Jack-Kate-Sawyer romantic triangle. The level of sexual tension between those three characters is definitely being ramped up. As the respective leaders of their respective units, Ana-Lucia and Jack have a great deal in common with each other, and that's definitely something we're going to be exploring. But [the fact that] Ana-Lucia inadvertently murdered one of the members of the tribe doesn't exactly [lend itself] to candlelight dinners and walks on the beach. She is a woman; she will have romantic entanglements. But I think the one that will begin to emerge over the season will be the one that you least expect. We're definitely going to be paying attention to [the Charlie and Claire] relationship, but it's not going to turn in ways the audience expects. I think that [the] question [as to what the numbers mean] will never, ever be answered. I couldn't possibly imagine [how we would answer that question]. We will see more ramifications of the numbers and more usage of the numbers, but it boggles my mind when people ask me, "What do the numbers mean?" You'll learn more about [why Ethan abducted Claire] this season. [We still plan on revealing why the plane crashed this season.] In the next string of episodes, one of the really compelling backstory elements is what happened to Jack's marriage. We think Julie Bowen is amazing and she and Matthew Fox are so great in scenes together, and I think the audience is really curious as to what went wrong there. And you should pay attention to Mr. Eko's stick. That stick is an important ongoing clue. [We will learn more about the monster this season.

Not reading any spoilers about tonight.

I think we will have a lot of answers about the others tonight...or at least how they operate. With the exception of just a couple instances (the korean guy and Mr. Echo watching the other's walk past, last episode with that lady went missing while they were climbing the cliff), we haven't really seen what they have done and are capable of.

We know that they can sneak up on people very quickly and they are very quiet. They also seem to kidnap people. And they at least have human legs

But that is all we really know.

Plus we will have a ton of new questions. Ain't that grand?

    • Edifier S3000MKII hi-fi audiophile grade bookshelf speaker is at its lowest price now by Sayan Sen Yesterday we covered a bunch of Dolby Atmos soundbar deals with several ones from Sony, as well as from JBL, Samsung, Polk Audio, and more. You can check them out in this dedicated piece. Those are not audiophile category speakers though as they are built with home theater use in mind. If you are searching for the former then Edifier has its S3000MKII at its lowest price at the moment (purchase link under the specs table down below). This is a two-way bookshelf monitor speaker designed to produce accurate sound. While it may not produce the best high-fidelity audio possible out there, it should still be significantly better than what you will get on soundbars of this price range. As such it will do justice to high-res audio played back through it. The only thing that may feel lacking is sub-bass as Edifier claims the unit can go down to 38 Hz, which should be enough for studio monitor purposes, but not for deep room-shaking rumbling bass. Where this does excel though is in its treble reproduction. With its super-tweeter, it claims to go as high as 40 kHz in the frequency spectrum, which should offer a sense of "air"yness. This is an active speaker which means it packs its own amplfication. It has a top-notch Class D amp that may be able to rival many Class AB designs too in terms of sound reproduction quality. The technical specs of the Edifier S3000MKII are given in the table below: Specification Value RMS Output Power 256W RMS (Treble: 8W × 2, Mid-Low: 120W × 2) Tweeter Driver 107mm × 107mm Planar Magnetic Tweeter Mid-Low Driver 6.5-inch (179mm) Long-Throw Aluminum Diaphragm Driver Frequency Response 38Hz – 40kHz Signal-to-Noise Ratio ≥ 85dB (A) Bluetooth Version Bluetooth 5.0 Bluetooth Codec Qualcomm® aptX™ HD Wireless Speaker Link Proprietary 5.8GHz wireless connection between speakers Supported Hi-Res Audio Hi-Res Audio Certified, up to 24-bit/192kHz Digital Processing XMOS XU216 Digital Signal Processor Audio Inputs Balanced XLR, Optical, Coaxial, USB Type-B, Line In, Bluetooth Input Sensitivity (USB) 400 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Optical) 400 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Coaxial) 400 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Bluetooth) 450 ± 50mFFs Input Sensitivity (Balanced XLR) 1000 ± 50mV Input Sensitivity (Line In) 600 ± 50mV ADC Capability Up to 24-bit/192kHz DSP Capability Up to 24-bit/192kHz DIX Capability Up to 24-bit/216kHz DAC Capability Up to 32-bit/384kHz XMOS Processing Power Up to 2,000 MIPS Edifier S3000MKII Audiophile Active (Powered) Wireless Speakers: $799.99 (Sold by Edifier US, Shipped by Amazon US) If you do not have the kind of budget to spend on the S3000MKII, you can also check out the Edifier R1280Ts which is right now on sale at just $114 (its lowest price in a very long time). You are confusing the First Industrial Revolution (which was clearly pulled out of some butt-hurt Brit historian's arse after the fact) with the Second Industrial Revolution (aka now called the Technological Revolution, undoubtedly by that same butt-hurt Brit), which transitioned the world from the UK/UPS Empire to the USA as the world's only superpower. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_Revolution I hope you realize that I am having big fun here.
    • OpenAI announces GPT‑5.6 Sol, its next-generation flagship model beating Claude Mythos 5 by Pradeep Viswanathan Credit: OpenAI OpenAI today announced a limited preview of its new GPT-5.6 model series, which includes the Sol, Terra, and Luna models targeting different price points. GPT-5.6 Sol is the flagship model targeted at demanding reasoning and agentic workloads. GPT-5.6 Terra is positioned as a balanced model for everyday work, featuring performance competitive with GPT-5.5 while being half the cost. GPT-5.6 Luna is the fastest and most affordable model, delivering strong capability at a lower price point. Unlike previous model releases from OpenAI, GPT-5.6 is starting with a limited preview for a small group of trusted partners due to U.S. government restrictions. As expected, OpenAI previewed its plans and the models' capabilities to the U.S. government ahead of launch, and the government asked OpenAI to limit the first wave of access to select partners. OpenAI also mentioned in the official announcement blog post that it does not believe this type of government access process should become the long-term default. OpenAI highlighted that GPT-5.6 Sol comes with a robust safety stack featuring improved protections for higher-risk activity, sensitive cyber requests, and repeated misuse. The company also spent several weeks pressure-testing the system and hardening it against real-world attacks. On the capability side, as expected, GPT-5.6 Sol is OpenAI’s strongest model yet. It delivers better results in agentic performance across coding, biology, and cybersecurity. On the Terminal-Bench 2.1 benchmark, which tests command-line workflows requiring planning, iteration, and tool coordination, GPT-5.6 Sol sets a new record with a score of 91.9%, beating Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5. Additionally, GPT-5.6 introduces a new "max" reasoning effort for even deeper reasoning. The new "ultra" mode uses subagents to accelerate complex work beyond what a single agent can handle. Pricing starts at $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens for Sol. Terra costs $2.50 for input and $15 for output, while Luna costs $1 for input and $6 for output. GPT-5.6 comes with more predictable prompt caching, including support for explicit cache breakpoints and a 30-minute minimum cache life. Sol will also launch on Cerebras in July at speeds up to 750 tokens per second for select customers. OpenAI plans to make GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna broadly available in ChatGPT, Codex, and the API in the coming weeks.
