"Lost" TV Show - Currently Season 2 (US aired)

Heh, here's how a meeting between the survivors would probably go (from the Lost thread at avsforum):

The truth is they have seen a lot of stuff, but they have no idea what is going on. Do you really think them sharing information with each other would be benificial at this point? I mean we have seen everything they have and more and we are just as confused as to what is going on.

ya..i noticed that too..and i was surprised how nobody noticed it @ the hatch...the problem with the show is lack of communication between the survivors!

Actually they do communicate - we just dont see it. The show has given numerous indications and examples showing that all them chat and gossip. Take for example sawyer, things have mellowed out enough that people will play cards with him.... anyway they do talk, we just dont know exactly what about.

The problem with this show are the flashbacks, the massive references between the characters, the numbers everywhere (all the time), bad acting (most of the time, aka ana lucia), the on the way script and see how the audience responce and the cheap trick way to keep the audience hanged with "clues".

If you remove all of that, you have a great show

I like the flash backs, it gives you depth about the characters and how they are all connected. like the last episode, locke was looking at nardia (syedes - however you spell it ) former love.

anyway, love the show, especially the last few!

I was listing to Sledgeweb's Lost Podcast earlier today and it got me thinking about a few things. Before I do that, I just want to anyone who is living spoiler free and hasn't seen the last 5 or so episodes, not to read any further.

  • First off, I want to go back to One of them and discuss the egyptian hieroglyphics that we saw at the end of the episode. Sledge was stating that it didn't make sense to him, the hieroglyphics and I was thinking that maybe we have it all wrong. Maybe it isn't egyptian hieroglyphics at all, but an odd coincidence. Maybe these characters have something specific to with Dharma and we haven't learned the true meaning of them yet. I mean, after all, "die" or "cause to die" doesn't really make sense at all and I see why Sledge says it would a lot of good writing on the writers part to make it tie in with the rest of the show. Just something I thought I'd throw out there.
  • I was thinking about all the symbolism from the first season about "black and white" and how I haven't noticed anything lately regarding this. Anyone else noticed anything?
  • The numbers, what has happened to them? Yes, we have seen them every once in a while, but I they still haven't been all that big of a player this season like what I was thinking they would be earlier this season and last season.
    • Note: We'll probably get another chunk of information regarding the numbers in Dave, but I'm still disappointed that we haven't seen more about the numbers yet.

Well those are the things that come to mind, seems I forgot some of the things I had wanted to write :p (long day) Anyway, once I think of some of things I'll post them.

I kinda saw it like those joke guns you see in movies.. the ones were you pull the trigger and out pops a "Bang!" flag, except of course, the Losties don't know the meaning of the little pictures so they don't realise its just a joke. (and I think the only reason Locke doesn't realise is cos he thinks he got to it in time)

I think that there are two countdowns. One countdown is the 108 minutes. This is just to make sure everyone is alert and operational. Waiting for instructions / or just pushing the button for a psychologist to study them / etc...

If the 108 countdown fails / breaks / gets stuck on a number (like it did on 47:00) , then a new countdown starts. This is an auto destruct countdown. The dharma experiment has been called off and lockdown occurs.

The guys in the hatch need to get out (according to the tannoy).

When they reach the surface, there are fresh supplies so that they can escape / survive / reach another station.

Well at-least we know that dharma is still in operation if they was able to drop some food from a plane.

I think that Dharma will send some replacements to the hatch because they have noticed the code wasn't typed in fast enough or something like that.

then why would they lock it down? So that the dead bodies would just be in there rotting? :/ Maybe a clean up crew would come along first.

On the new food.... was the new food "swan" food? or generic dharma food?

You're thinking about the episode where Boone gets crushed in the plane and at the start Locke has a big piece of shrapnel in his leg and doesn't realise until Boone points it out to him. Later on he can't feel the fire when he presses it into his foot. This is because he was losing the use of his legs again and this was meant to show him losing more and more feeling until he couldn't walk at all.

After they started working again out of nowhere he regained full feeling as well as feelings of pain I assume.

Maybe they locked it up for safety until the replacements arrive? if they think everyone is already dead they don't want anyone coming and tampering with there equipment?

So there must be a code for the computer to un-lockdown the hatch.

Theory.... No matter what numbers are typed in... it totals the numbers together and gives you X minutes. So if they just typed in 999 they would have 999 minutes left for the alarm to go off again.

Here's another one to ponder:

  • In The Long Con, the writers made this big to do about Sawyer getting the guns. What's happened with that? It just seems to one else has had a problem with it and the only reference to it was in the last episode when Sawyer asked Jack why he didn't want them instead of the meds. Personally, I liked The Long Con, it showed who Sawyer really was, even if he does have a sweet spot every once in a while. But I feel the writers put the problems with Sawyer to the back burner to quickly.

In Episode 11 Locke says Michael is travelling North to look for Walt.

North from the hatch leads to the '?' does'nt it?

So Michael's heading to the '?' to find Walt? Did Walt tell him using the computer what the '?' is?

EDIT: Also while they were tracking Michael, they were intercepted by the Others, they were trying to stop them from getting to the ?

I don't get it though, if lockdown occurs when the code isn't typed in, how come there was still time left when the doors started going down? You also don't seem to realize how rushed the count was (20 minutes...(Locke takes a quick look around)...10 minutes to lockdown...(Locke's flashback)..."phase complete or something like that"...10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1). The was obviously a bug in the system (or unless island time somehow went very quickly...then again, would it take Locke 10 minutes to look in the computer room and then climb up on the chair?) or it's connected to something else, possibly the food drop or a reason we haven't seen.

no, the lockdown isn't a result of the code not being typed in. it started before the 108 timer went down. also, that other time they let it go down (when we saw the heiroglyphs) it didn't bring down any doors... or at least none that we could see.

The counter/clock/whatever is to ensure that there is a retard pressing the button. When both retards dies or one of them kill the other and leaves the island (like anyone could do, with less patience than many of us watching this series). When this happend, then they found another idiot to keep that button pushed and send food to keep the b*astard feed. ;)

I do not believe that the countdown was 'stuck' at 47:00 minutes, it appeared to be functioning properly. The seconds to do not appear until the timer alert (at 4:00 minutes).

the timer doesn't summon the food drop. the blast doors and the food drop coincide, but not the normal 108 timer. there was a warning over the PA system to let the button pushers know that they needed to get by the computer so they could push the button while the doors came down. those doors definitely came down before the 108 timer counted down.

the food is part of the normal routine for anyone there; remember when hurley said that the pantry had enough food for 1 guy for a few months? that means that desmond (and kelvin) were being restocked every so often.

how none of them spotted or heard the food-delivery system (plane or balloon) is still a mystery right now.

The people in the hatch are not meant to leave. Remember that the island is meant to be somehow dirty and under quarantine. The hatches are 'clean'.

But nothing can answer why there was a food drop. The dharma project was meant to be three months per pair of people (correct?) then why the need for a food drop mid-shift?

hmmm, i don't specifically recall the timing of the shifts, i'll have to dig up the episode with the film and re-watch it. but if the island is supposed to dirty, then how are the new folks supposed to get there and the old folks supposed to leave? desmond didn't have a problem running out of the door when locke, kate, and jack showed up. maybe it was then that he realized they weren't sick? but he did take the medicine with him too. how long had he been there without someone coming to relieve him? 4 years? i can't remember.

hmmm again, maybe the hatches are supposed to meet in the middle of the island, but because of the incident, the concrete was poured in there, blocking off something in addition to the tunnel that leads to the question mark.

It could have been when teh timer hit zero weeks ago, that sent a message to trigger the drop. It htne took a while for the drop to occur. The coutdown that was occurring while the doors went down may have just been a coincidence. I'm not saying that the countdown that Fake Henry had to fix had anythign to do with the drop, but rather the time it expired previously

It is funny how they let a lot of the intriguing / thought provoking things die off.

It kind of makes you wonder if they do actually mean anything at all, or if they are just there to send you off on a tangent...to nowhere (because they have no meaning at all). <-- I hope not.

As for the food drop....

Desmond said he had NEVER been outside..

So how would he have got the food inside the hatch???
