Very cool program from NASA.

I stole this from another message board.

Go here, and download World Wind (250MB, so have a fast connection)

With this free piece of software, you can view extremely high resolution photos (satellite and topographical) of almost anywhere in the world. (I've only tested the US.)

I have been doing a little looking, and this program has tons of interesting features...

The servers are glitchy at the moment, but some people have been able to zoom in so much as to be able to distinguish cars from trucks...

Just figured those who hadn't seen this yet, should...

i love these things.. thanks for posting

No problem.

The way it displays the world is just plain awesome, in 3d.

I wanna note that if you have a semi-slow computer, don't even try and run it. It is very, very, very CPU intensive.

Topo, zoomed in completely, still hometown...

The part on the left size hadn't refreshed yet.

That word in block letters doesnt say Shelbyville does it?

If so, is Springfield the town next to it? :p

so you can get a satellite view of anywhere on the world?

You should, provided the servers are functioning properly. They are supposed to be upgrading them soon enough. So, if you happen to go to another country, such as Canada, and choose Digital-Ortho imaging, which is satellite, they will show up white. I have got it to work once, then I zoomed in more, and got nada.

Oh, and another picture... Seattle, WA. I was looking for Microsoft, couldn't find it. :p

And why the hell is it everyone assumes Shelbyville is next to Springfield? Damn Simpsons...

If you are speaking of the World Wind link to download, then heres a mirror...

http://www.twobeds.com/worldwind-1_2.zip

For those of you in the UK, Australia, etc. If you want the Landsat to allow for satellite photos of your countries, then you'll have to go to the following link, and download the corresponding cache data for your country, until the servers are back up, which will be in the next week or two.

If you're looking for Microsoft, try Redmond, WA

I know that Microsoft is in Redmond, but I get true color photos down to .25 meters per pixel in Seattle, I was hoping that Redmond would be located on the Seattle urban data, but it wasn't.
