It's just like Sykil said, it is my opinion whether or not something is bloat. It is how I feel about it. This is personal for everyone. How you think about it may not be how I think about it. That does not mean either of us is wrong.

Well.. bloat is an adjective that describes a program. You can't just throw out that "that is a bloated program" without backing it up.

software bloat

The result of adding new features to a program

or system to the point where the benefit of the new features

is outweighed by the extra resources consumed (RAM, disk

space or performance) and complexity of use. Software bloat

is an instance of Parkinson's Law: resource requirements

expand to consume the resources available.

You don't have to.  No one is saying you do.

I sure hope you aren't implying people that are paying for opera are "settling" for it.  I paid because I want to support the Opera team for the awesome work they have done, and because I think Opera gives me the superior browsing experience.. something I can and have backed up with facts.

Even firefox team does a good job!

And still firefox is free, u dont have any nagging ads... See even linux team do a good job, and still it is open source. I dont need to register, and if i want support, i can have the mozillazine forums

Ok here is the FF features:

* Download manager

* Fast browsing

* Easy web page saving

* Tab browsing

* Not a resource sucker

* Pop up blocker(which is in-built)

* Search tab for search engines

* More Plugins and add-ons are available

* more Extentions

U just fell zomming is usefull because opera IMO, has less browsing area and we need to scroll more. Anyways i dont visit forum sites so i dont think it will be of any use.

Nice intereface and a lot of skins available.

Well, the same can be said for Firefox too.

Hey will have to fug my time with opera jus to load/reload/back/stop...etc?

besides we will have to train it. This feature will be usefull for disabled ppl, not for everyone.

Pallab said:Nice intereface and a lot of skins available.

u talk abt interface?

Definetly firefox's interface is simple and much better than opera's one. And fug, it has a GIF advertisement thing too.

* The status bar is not clusttered.

* no ads.

* The top portion of the browser interface is also not clustred and we can choose between small icons and large icons (but i dont know if this can be done with opera as well).

* Just measure the distance from the menu bar till the browsing part..., this is defenitely less than opera. So u need not scroll more often.

Pallab said:Small download size.

Well firefox is also lite with only 4.69 MB.The download size should not be actually compared, these are not substantial...anyway if one program have small sixe and it competitor one has a large file size, then it does not indicate the former is better.

AND i dont need to pay and register for a browser when a better browser is available for free.

Use the "quote" button will ya? :(

ACtuall firefox is more faster... Mozilla claims it is the fastest browser. ANd i support them.
No it's not. I'm not saying Opera is faster, but both claim their browser is the fastest. It is really system dependent.
Ok here is the FF features:

That's great. Opera still has more features. Each extension is not a feature.
U just fell zomming is usefull because opera IMO, has less browsing area and we need to scroll more. Anyways i dont visit forum sites so i dont think it will be of any use.
'IMO' my ass. It is not opinion. Opera8 has MORE browsing area than Firefox 1.0 by default. Even so, you can customize both to have as much browsing area as you want.
Hey will have to fug my time with opera jus to load/reload/back/stop...etc?

besides we will have to train it. This feature will be usefull for disabled ppl, not for everyone.

Why don't you try doing research before spouting off lies. You do NOT have to train the Opera Voice Recognition.
u talk abt interface?

Definetly firefox's interface is simple and much better than opera's one. And fug, it has a GIF advertisement thing too.

Actually, Opera8's interface is technically "more simple" by default.. and better.. no. Both are skinnable, so that means nothing.

* The status bar is not clusttered.

Both status bars have the same amount of content in them by default: NOTHING.

* The top portion of the browser interface is also not clustred and we can choose between small icons and large icons (but i dont know if this can be done with opera as well).
Yes it can be done and again.. TRY OPERA 8
* Just measure the distance from the menu bar till the browsing part..., this is defenitely less than opera. So u need not scroll more often.
Nope.. it's less with Opera8. And that's without showing the tab/page bar in Firefox.
AND i dont need to pay and register for a browser when a better browser is available for free.

Free does not always mean better.

I really hate it when people say something like this.

It is obvious he hasn't even bothered to give opera a fair try b4 saying all those.

He probably even didnt read my post.

1.If u give operav8 400mb(or decent size) of caching..it wud load pages much faster than any browser on da wrld.

2.Those r more features?

Opera's d'load manager is much more advanced than opera's.

Already clarified the fast browsing part.

Easy web page saving...FF as a very slight advantage.When saving pages ff places all the relavent files in a new sub-folder..but opera doesnt do dat..it places it in da same folder...this makes things a bit cluttered.But this is a very very minor fact.

Opera isnt a resource sucker in which way u look at it.

For ur kind information..opera also has one inbuilt pop-up blocker..with again a little better interface..as it has a pop-up notification

Opera has much more search tabs.And a better one as usual.

3.maxthon has it..yes..but it isnt like opera..it only retains the urls..not da whole page..so when u come online..it reloads them and clogs ur connection if u had a no.of connections left open.

Listen...dun mention those two e-mai clients.They r nowhere close to "The Bat!" (the best one) or M2.

DO me one favour..take screenshots of both browsers and then measure the viewing area (btw,in case u didn't knw...area=lengthxbreadth)

Opera(registered and v8)has the max viewing area.It has even removed the status bar at the bottom and merged it with the address bar...and the left bar has been made slidable.

The page resizing comes in handy in a lot of places..

Now...u said a lot bout extensions.

But but but..FF is a bigger d'load than opera and still it needs u to go and look for extensions to add on functionality which opera has built in it.

Remember that most extensions r made to give FF some of opera's features.

Still no match for features like copy to note,page resizer,voice browsing,smooth interface,irc client,hide ur browser identity,resume ur sessions and so on.

I recomend u atleast give this browser a fair try,look at my previous post carefully and also the 2 links i provided

http://www.gungfu.de/facts/archives/2004/1...y-i-love-opera/

and surely

http://www.gungfu.de/facts/archives/2004/1...efox-get-opera/

(these were written for v7..now it is even more better)

And you say that opera isnt free...well r u such an honest guy?

That reason stands only if u have never touched any illegal soft,sog,games or used opern source and free alternatives always.

[edit:vcv..i hadnt seen ur post while writing this..cause when i started to write there were no replies..so the nature of the two posts r bit same]

You're comparing somebody's English to someone's credibility? He doesn't live in America, the UK, or Australia. He lives in India, and he doesn't necessarily have to learn English.

In response to whoever said Opera invented the notion of scaling down elements so they fit on a small screen. I could've sworn mobile devices had that years before Opera released Opera for Mobile or the notion of SSR.

I think he was.

Observe, the fan boy at it's core. I oughta set up a fence and charge people to see it.

Stop resorting to personal attacks. It makes the "immaturity level" of this thread drop even more. :rolleyes:

Time and again, its been said that browser preference is the enduser's opinion. Time and again, people have pointed out that this thread is going around and around in circles. And yet people keep arguing, and resorting to petty bickering over someone's purported inability to use proper English (as if there is such a thing).

Well golly, you all have good points. Now does anyone actually think that they'll "win" this argument? Is it honestly going to improve your life (hey, I won an argument about the best browser on neowin.net, come be my friend)?

I'd say opera, and I'm even a fan of firefox.

But the download manager of firefox is basic crap. It always hangs my browser for a second or two everytime I want to save something, even an image.

I now noticed that opera 8 beta 1 uses less resources, for more pages. Not that this is a big deal, but still another pro for opera.

I used to rely on firefox for all my browsing but no longer, I'm now using opera, and this will probably stay as long as the download manager of FF won't get a make-over. (I don't care about any plugins, I want it to work well the way they let you download it)

Did anyone understand this post? A translation would be helpful.

ACtuall firefox is more faster... Mozilla claims it is the fastest browser. ANd i support them.

Bill Gates claims that Internet Explorer is the safest browser there is. Your point?

Ok here is the FF features:

Funny how most of these were invented or pioneered by Opera... :)

- Download manager like the one Opera has had for years.

- "Fast browsing"... Uh, yeah... I have a "car with wheels", and I love it! By the way, Opera is small and fast ehough to fit on mobile phones... (The same engine, the UI is different.)

- Saving pages. Opera's saved pages since v1.

- Tabbed browsing. Yes, like Opera introduced to the mainstream browsers...

- Not a resource sucker: Again, Opera is used on mobiles. Firefox isn't. Minimo is work in progress, but still too huge to be of any use.

- Popup blocker built in: Yes, yes. Opera was the first browser to have a popup blocker, AFAIK.

- Search tab for search engines: Yet another Opera invention.

- More Plugins and add-ons are available + more Extentions: Yeah, like just about any other browser. They can all be extended in various ways. Me, I don't like Extension Hell and the security issues that may arise.

Guess where Maxthon got it from... OPERA!

Pallab said:Excellent e-mail client(called Revolutionary M2)

Mozilla too has Thunderbird. It is only next better to MS outlook.

Opera with browser and mail is smaller than Firefox alone. Also, Thunderbird is now trying to copy Opera's "virtual folders" concept (which Google copies as well) :)

Pallab said:Allows you to zoom in and out of the pages.Zooming in is something dat I just love in those porn sites.

U just fell zomming is usefull because opera IMO, has less browsing area and we need to scroll more.

Zooming is useful for a number of reasons, for example for accessibility reasons (not everyone has perfect eye sight). But I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand that.

Nice intereface and a lot of skins available.

Well, the same can be said for Firefox too.

Except, you have to restart Firefox to apply a theme... :D

Pallab said:Has IRC client.Chat feature.Allows you to recieve RSS feeds.

Extensions? No thanks. My time is more valuable than that.

Pallab said:[/b]Nice intereface and a lot of skins available.>

Definetly firefox's interface is simple and much better than opera's one.

Firefox's interface is harder to customize for most people, and it is less flexible, unless you want to hack the code yourself. Opera's is more powerful.

Pallab said:[/b]Small download size.>

Just because it does not favor Firefox doesn't mean that download size is irrelevant. Not everyone is on broadband, you know.

I can't see any free browsers that are better than Opera. Maybe you prefer Firefox, but price is not a measure of quality.

Opera works smoothly out of the box, without exposing you to Extension Hell. It is a tiny download, and has everything in this small package. Everything is tightly integrated, unlike extensions that go in all directions.

In short, Opera is a smoother, more polished Internet experience.

    • Good review, and yeah the benchmark breakdown is pretty clear but also a little messy in a good way. It’s kinda interesting to see where the RX 9070 GRE slides in between the 7800 XT and the 9070 XT , especially when it comes to AI tasks and Blender style workloads. The side by side with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 4070 makes it feel obvious just how competitive the mid range GPU scene has gotten lately, and that’s great for creators and gamers too since you can pick based on your priorities rather than only chasing one single thing.
    • That's it. I finally uninstalled Firefox because they often keep pushing buggy updates, only to test them later and make users suffer. No longer is it my alternative browser to Edge. What a waste of energy. Firefox is bad for the environment, just like Chrome (wasting RAM/energy).
