Well.. bloat is an adjective that describes a program. You can't just throw out that "that is a bloated program" without backing it up.

I sure hope you aren't implying people that are paying for opera are "settling" for it.  I paid because I want to support the Opera team for the awesome work they have done, and because I think Opera gives me the superior browsing experience.. something I can and have backed up with facts.

And still firefox is free, u dont have any nagging ads... See even linux team do a good job, and still it is open source. I dont need to register, and if i want support, i can have the mozillazine forums

No it's not. I'm not saying Opera is faster, but both claim their browser is the fastest. It is really system dependent.

'IMO' my ass. It is not opinion. Opera8 has MORE browsing area than Firefox 1.0 by default. Even so, you can customize both to have as much browsing area as you want.

1.If u give operav8 400mb(or decent size) of caching..it wud load pages much faster than any browser on da wrld.

Opera's d'load manager is much more advanced than opera's.

Already clarified the fast browsing part.

Easy web page saving...FF as a very slight advantage.When saving pages ff places all the relavent files in a new sub-folder..but opera doesnt do dat..it places it in da same folder...this makes things a bit cluttered.But this is a very very minor fact.

Opera isnt a resource sucker in which way u look at it.

For ur kind information..opera also has one inbuilt pop-up blocker..with again a little better interface..as it has a pop-up notification

Opera has much more search tabs.And a better one as usual.

3.maxthon has it..yes..but it isnt like opera..it only retains the urls..not da whole page..so when u come online..it reloads them and clogs ur connection if u had a no.of connections left open.

Listen...dun mention those two e-mai clients.They r nowhere close to "The Bat!" (the best one) or M2.

DO me one favour..take screenshots of both browsers and then measure the viewing area (btw,in case u didn't knw...area=lengthxbreadth)

Opera(registered and v8)has the max viewing area.It has even removed the status bar at the bottom and merged it with the address bar...and the left bar has been made slidable.

The page resizing comes in handy in a lot of places..

Now...u said a lot bout extensions.

But but but..FF is a bigger d'load than opera and still it needs u to go and look for extensions to add on functionality which opera has built in it.

Remember that most extensions r made to give FF some of opera's features.

Still no match for features like copy to note,page resizer,voice browsing,smooth interface,irc client,hide ur browser identity,resume ur sessions and so on.

I recomend u atleast give this browser a fair try,look at my previous post carefully and also the 2 links i provided

In response to whoever said Opera invented the notion of scaling down elements so they fit on a small screen. I could've sworn mobile devices had that years before Opera released Opera for Mobile or the notion of SSR.

I've used firefox since 2002 it was phoenix 0.5 back then, I never had any problems its fast has lots of extensions no spyware or ads. now I am on Mac Os X and I've tried several other browsers nothing suited me best other than firefox

Time and again, its been said that browser preference is the enduser's opinion. Time and again, people have pointed out that this thread is going around and around in circles. I'd say opera, and I'm even a fan of firefox.

But the download manager of firefox is basic crap. It always hangs my browser for a second or two everytime I want to save something, even an image.

I now noticed that opera 8 beta 1 uses less resources, for more pages. Not that this is a big deal, but still another pro for opera.

I used to rely on firefox for all my browsing but no longer, I'm now using opera, and this will probably stay as long as the download manager of FF won't get a make-over. (I don't care about any plugins, I want it to work well the way they let you download it)

Funny how most of these were invented or pioneered by Opera... :)

- Download manager like the one Opera has had for years.

- "Fast browsing"... Uh, yeah... I have a "car with wheels", and I love it! By the way, Opera is small and fast ehough to fit on mobile phones... (The same engine, the UI is different.)

- Saving pages. Opera's saved pages since v1.

- Tabbed browsing. Yes, like Opera introduced to the mainstream browsers...

- Not a resource sucker: Again, Opera is used on mobiles. Firefox isn't. Minimo is work in progress, but still too huge to be of any use.

- Popup blocker built in: Yes, yes. Opera was the first browser to have a popup blocker, AFAIK.

- Search tab for search engines: Yet another Opera invention.

- More Plugins and add-ons are available + more Extentions: Yeah, like just about any other browser. They can all be extended in various ways. Me, I don't like Extension Hell and the security issues that may arise.

Opera with browser and mail is smaller than Firefox alone. Also, Thunderbird is now trying to copy Opera's "virtual folders" concept (which Google copies as well) :)

Zooming is useful for a number of reasons, for example for accessibility reasons (not everyone has perfect eye sight). But I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand that.

Firefox's interface is harder to customize for most people, and it is less flexible, unless you want to hack the code yourself. Opera's is more powerful.

Just because it does not favor Firefox doesn't mean that download size is irrelevant. Not everyone is on broadband, you know.

I can't see any free browsers that are better than Opera. Maybe you prefer Firefox, but price is not a measure of quality.

Opera works smoothly out of the box, without exposing you to Extension Hell. It is a tiny download, and has everything in this small package. Everything is tightly integrated, unlike extensions that go in all directions.

In short, Opera is a smoother, more polished Internet experience.
