****... 31 extensions!! And how long did it take to install and find them all?

I bet his browser is slow and bloated(I mean heavy) like hell.  :pinch:

No it isn't! Firefox loads in five seconds despite all the extensions, everything is snappy and page load times are indistinguishable from opera. And before you say anything, I have Opera 8 Beta installed. Firefox has been open for 5 days and peak memory usage is 28 MB. And I have 8 windows with numerous tabs in each open.

I've come across the extensions over a long period of time - i've been using firefox since Phoenix 0.2 . I also know Opera is a great browser, seeing as I have both installed.

I'm just wondering whats the deal with the uncustomizable toolbars at the top in opera? Sure you can add and remove buttons to it, but you cant even remove the whole bar itself. Thats leaving like 2 inches or more of space that COULD be taken out to make for more internet page viewing space. Thats the sole reason why I deleted Opera after trying it out again yesterday, other than the fact that it felt bloated.

What bar? Only toolbars i have is the one with my tabs and the one with my address bar, thats it :s.

And 2 inch? Dam, your monitor must be huge or your res is low.

yeah, that's all that matters! as long as it's free, we don't care if it's not quite as good as the non-free alternatives!

Exactly. im not going to waste money on a browser that may be a bit better oob, but can get FREE extetions to make it how I want,

I'm posting this using Opera 8 beta.

So far its okay, though I've noticed that it loads sites slower than Firefox does. Annnd I dislike the ad at the top corner, (im not about to pay for something im not a huge fan of)

ayee... so far firefox is better.

edit: I also dont like the fact that gmail doesnt work with it.. =S

edit edit: Emptying junk mail folder in hotmail does not work (okay button does nothing)

How do you make the tabs close the same as firefox in opera?

As in if you have one tab and close it, it moves to the tab to the right of the previous one?

Also, it seems opera adds a 1px space on the very very right, so I usually "miss" clicking the scrollbar and have to readjust. Is there a way to fix this.

If these two problems were fixed, I think I would stay with opera. Though it would be nice if it didnt look so fugly when using the windows native skin.

Why would you care for non-free alternatives??

I wouldn't pay for a browser, when there's an already excellent browser like Firefox which fulfils most of my needs.

even 'optimized' builds are slower than opera. oh well.

btw, why use opera when you can get firefox for free? good point. because we all know there's no point in buying photoshop when you can get the gimp for free! rotflmao

Actually I've found non-optimized builds of FF1.0+ are considerably faster than Opera 7.6 and the optimized ones are going to be faster still.

Here's some tips for some of the posters in the last 2 pages...

READ THE THREAD BEFORE POSTING, SOME OF YOUR POINTS HAVE BEEN ADDRESSES AND REFUTED, OR AT LEAST DISCUSSED

- Opera IS free

- Opera IS secure

- Opera IS NOT bloated

- Opera IS fast. It's faster than FF for some (yes, even 1.0+), and not for others.

- "Why would you pay when there is a free alternative?" is a stupid question.

- GMail DOES work in Opera

I guarantee you I can not browse as fast in FF as I can in Opera. I have used both since 0.3 and 3.6 respectively. Firefox may render pages just as fast (and faster for some people), and it may have extensions, but it can not match the integration, shortcuts and small considerations of Opera.

I really think this thread has run long enough. Every point has been covered numerous times.

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
