just go delete the files optiplex is talking about from autopatcher's bin folder :)

wherever you see "xml" in \bin folder, kill it... same goes for scrrun.dll :)

Hello Group;

Removeing the above listed files from Autopatcher solved my "WFP" problem.

I was only able to try it out on one PC. I used the "ultralight data base".

Thanks for the fix.

I had a question about the removed files. What are they for, and is updateing them needed ? If so how ?

My PC Cillin 2002 antivirus program detects viruses in the Java (the Sun Java, I think) files after I install this version of AutoPatcher, and it was the same with the previous version. Have you verified those Java distributions for viruses? Thank you.

Any chance we will see an update to the Autopatcher 2000 to include up to current updates and hotfixes released since October? If yes, any idea as to when a new version will be out for Autopatcher 2000? If no, any info on where someone could find and download a collection of the Windows 2000 stuff updated and patched since then?

I will start off by saying to all that that read this that I put the 'N' in novice...just so that is understood.

Anyway, my problem is with downloading Autopatcher Ver 4.6.24

I have downloaded the full version on two separate occasions (using dial up!!) and there has been a problem when I unpack the file. The first time there were around 100 "broken files" and auto patcher wouldn't start. So I downloaded it again and the second time there were 300 "broken files" same result.

What is the problem?

I have 2000 sp4

I use flashget download manager with dial up.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

its coming along but theres still quite a lot to do.

when i made the 1/2 week estimate i didnt fully realize just how much work it was.

But dont worry im still working on it and its my main priority to get it done.

Hi:

I downloaded the AutoPatcher 2000 exe and it was totally awsome. I can't thank the team enought.

It was simple to use, namely:

1. run the .exe and select the same folder as AutoPatcher 2000.exe to put the output into (or create another folder for the output if you wish)

2. Then run AutoPatcher_menu.exe and select the option to install autopatcher.

3. Make your selections (or use the defaults) and sit back and wait for installation to complete.

4. Reboot and you're done. Easy and your system is mucho better.

I saw a lot of exchanges on how to set up the iso from a cd rom. They sounded painful. Downloading the exe and running it is soo much easier.

Microsoft should kiss your boots for this service, but knowing them they won't and probably will give you a hard time since customer service and user friendly were never their strong suits.

Thanks again.

and when AP2K gets ported to the AutoPatcher5 system, it'll be even awesomer (yes, I'm aware that isn't a word  )

I downloaded and ran today the Autopatcher2000 program. What an awesome system. Microsoft should give you donation (even if anonymously) because of the bandwidth you must save them.

I had one glitch with the first run of the program. IT got to 8% on WMP9 and my CPU usage went to 100% and stayed there, with nothing happening like forever. So I killed the process a.l.a. taskmanager and ran it again with the WMP9 deselected since I already had it installed anyway. This one completed successfully.

I then went to Windows Update and checked for new updates . It found 8 . Here are the KB numbers.

I hadn't previously read this thread, and therefore had not removed any files from the bin folder and had no other issues. So now that I have the extra updates, can I add them to my database as custom programs or not? Or is that function for installing stuff like Adaware and Spybot S&D?

Kerry

Well, this release (AutoPatcher 2000) is quite old as you can see (dated October 2004) so some new hotfixes are not included. Being based on the AutoPatcher 4.6 engine, adding your own stuff is a little difficult, since there is a central 'database'-style file. New releases, based on the AutoPatcher 5.0 engine are quite easy to customize, since every item is a stand-alone module. AutoPatcher 2000 will be transfered to the new engine sooner or later.

Yes I was aware of the age, and therefore expected that there would be extras to grab after the Autopatcher run. I posted the numbers just to inform exactly what has been added since October, right up until today.

Even though the extras were only 8.9MB and took only a few minutes on broadband to get, for the people I am planning to help, I still wouldn't like to go out to Update for even those 8MB, expecially on dial up, if they are paying me for my time. Therefore I would want them on CD either standalone or within Autopatcher.

I'm just trying to work out the best way to do that. The documentation that comes with Autopatcher 2000 speaks about customization and adding extra programs to the install. I just wondered if that was aimed at extra hotfixes or programs like SpyBot or Anti Virus.

I really would like to get these machines as protected as possible, BEFORE they need to connect to the Internet.

Kerry.

Actually, there's no real difference between a hotfix and a program. Just as long as you know how to silently install the hotfix/program. If I remember correctly (it's a long time since I touched AutoPatcher 4.x source) you would need to assign a uniqueID of KBxxxxxx for the hotfix to make detection work (since back in those day we had no big detection mechanism - hotfixes were given uniqueIDs of KBxxxxx/Qxxxxxx).

Yes would be nice but WHEN? :p

caesar, im working on it constantly, i promise you, i wont rest until its complete, but gathering all the information needed is overwelming and practically a full time job, ive had to setup my own database to try and cope with it.

cheers, the neowin servers seemed to be busy and caused problems :)

Blaze, I think we could use this small list, but I guess you have it covered :)

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
