awesome tweak, thanks a ton for sharing... both my laptop and desktop are much happier now :)

and to answer EZRecovery, i also have a wireless g card and a wireless b router... i just couldn't afford the g after i spent the money on the laptop :) that and the nearest store carrying one at the time was 70 miles away..

:D

It makes sense when the user doesn't have enough $$$ to buy some extra devices. Not a problem, I was just curious.

Why you have a G card and a B wireless router?  Are you planning to buy a G wireless router later?

If I can ask.  :D

So... What is the best tweak for 11Mbps???

Forgive me i don't know abut internet speeds so I am unable to calculate the best tweak for my speed.

Anyone know  tweaks like these to make firefox startup faster ? ( im on a Athlon [email protected]) seems it takes forever to load :p

Try adding /prefetch:1 after the target in the properties of the shortcut you use to start Firefox.

E.g. "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

Nice firefox not only starts up faster, but loads pages faster with the tweaks and MMOYS new P4 optimized build. Such a great browser :woot:

these settings are a must!

here's mine for my 6mbps connection

user_pref("network.http.max-connections", 128);

user_pref("network.http.max-connections-per-server", 128);

user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server", 64);

user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy", 8);

user_pref("network.http.pipelining", true);

user_pref("network.http.pipelining.maxrequests", 30);

user_pref("network.http.proxy.pipelining", true);

user_pref("nglayout.initialpaint.delay", 0);

Now if only IE had something like this. That would be nice too.  :)

Another reason FFX kicks the snot out of IE. (On speed, anyway)

You can change a few registry entires for IE to allow nearly the same kind of effect, removing the limits of parallel connections wich result in minor speed improvements...that is if you still havent switched to Firefox ;)

Here is my Firefox config values I played with.

Tested with my 1.5mbit DSL connection.

Not for dial-up users!

To start:

Open Firefox.

Type "about:config" in the adress bar.

Find these options, double click each one and change to below values:

network.http.max-connections: 48

network.http.max-connections-per-server: 24

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 12

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 6

network.http.pipelining: true

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 32

network.http.proxy.pipelining: true

After changing the values just close Firefox and open it again.

Enjoy your fast browsing! :p

    • I can name 10x that on why not to switch.... It's funny outlook/office are going towards web app wrappers, and then MS is now preaching native apps again.... ugh can we just pick a lane and stay in it
    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
