[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

You know, people who buy the game in stores and have no clue about steam or any of the crap going on, then bring the game home only to find they can't play it must be ticked.

and all they have to do is start calling VU Games and we'll be playing this badboy come monday.

well.... there IS a HL2DM mod in the works.

http://www.jhgamers.com/hl2dm/

known about that one since like the beginning of the month. maybe earlier. they said they're first gonna work on getting regular HL2DM out so it's playable and everything, then they'll work on the other stuff like more models/skins for models and custom maps and all that other junk.

Half-Life 2 is a first-person shooter. But in action, storytelling, technical achievement, atmosphere and intensity it has far outdone its peers. Valve just hit the top note no other PC game developer could reach...The excuse that 'it's just a game' won't cut it anymore. [Dec 2004, p.102]

History in the making. It raises the bar for interactive entertainment, and then uses that bar to club all other games into submission...Valve has forged the framework for the next generation of games, demonstrating what our medium can and should be able to accomplish - an exhilarating entertainment that can emotionally move you one moment, kick ass the next, and keep you immersed the whole time. Hey Vivendi...seriously, f**k you.

rofl

uh question to anyone who would be so kind as to do so: If you bought the game in store can you scan the front back and left side of the box for a dvd cover and scan one of the cds?

a big thank you for anyone who wants to do it for us steam folks :D

I can't believe Vivendi's actions.. I assume Valve will seriously be distancing themselves after HL2 has been released and all the dust has settled down, and that any future games will be released WITHOUT Vivendi and a publisher who gets the point of Steam and all the people (like me) who paid for it ONLINE within a few minutes of the pricing packages being released?

Sons of bitches.. we're lining their pockets and they can't even give us a treat by letting Valve unleash it on the authentication servers.

Is it worth it to ruin your company's rep over something as little as this? I think Vivendi should be worrying a lot more about people who will migrate to steam just to circumvent paying them for the boxed version, rather than releasing the game a couple days early... seriously. People hate them now and that will be their downfall.

I don't see the big deal here, the release date is set at the 16th, so thats when were gonna get to play it.

It may be the longest couple of days ever but we'll deal with it.

Obviously if it is unlocked many people will see that it is not in stores so they will decide to go steam/cancell their pre-orders through stores to play earlier, loosing vivendi alot of money.

I agree that valve deserves all of the money made from this game and would be happy to see everyone buy it from steam so vivendi makes no money at all but it dfosn't work like that unfortunately.

Hey guys!

I'm pretty sure most are you are so hyped about this game, same goes for me.

But i'm just afraid Neowin will drown in Half-life 2 Related threads ( Like Doom III )

So i thought i'd create this thread! I hope you all agree that we need one final thread instead a million pointless ones.

Here you can:

Post the "It's OPEN! Whii"

Post your screenshots

Posts your spoilers, remember spoiler tags

Get help if Half-life 2 is acting up

Post relevant information

Modifications and add-ons + Other files for/about Half-life 2

Discuss the game in general ( Hint thread name )

And the list goes on. And we all know that people won't stick to a single thread ... They will create new threads! but let's not flood Neowin with the same BS like people did with Doom III

- DoNuTs out

I understand that Lanky, but sometimes its a shame when a company like Vivendi who are already battling in lawsuits with the company thats going to bring them a CRAP load of revenue from a long awaited game have to maintain the corporate a$$hole image right up until the very last minute and can't show a liiiitle bit of good faith. Its out there, people are buying it and waiting to play it.. why not just accept that the street date has been broken and let people play it!

I am still trying to decied to buy it or not!

I was gonna do that monthly subscription through Steam for 1 month to see if I would want to buy it, but they ain't gonna be offering that it turns out, so dunno if I will play it. More interested in the engine then the game really, wasn't too big on the original HL either.

If I do get it I hope they can at least prevent most cheating in online play.

Meh, I'm okay with waiting still anyway. Been waiting 6 years and I can wait 2 more days easy... unfortunately I probably wont even get the game on tuesday because it will be sold out locally and I can't buy over steam or online pretty much...

6 years ... Err 4 years ago you didn't even kow Half-life 2 was in production

If you own an Nvidia Card I strongly suggest getting the new 66.93 drivers. I have a 6800GT/3.0 Ghz P4 and went from 78 to 98fps in the CS Source video stress test... must go test them out on a low spec machine sometime.

edit: lol at the "It's OPEN! Whii" post... so funny that i just had to load steam 3 times to check that it was fake, then call gabe newell at home to ask him, then yell at vivandi for making people make such reliable fakes before going back to constantly refreshing steam.

Rendering is done using a separate non-blocking process so it can be stopped, paused and restarted. Kdenlive also provides a script called the Kdenlive Builder Wizard (KBW) that compiles the latest developer version of the software and its main dependencies from source, to allow users to try to test new features and report problems on the bug tracker. • Here's how to watch the Xbox Games Showcase today and what to expect by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The June games showcase week has been a packed one, with everything from major presentations like Sony and Summer Game Fest to indie-focused reveals coming in almost every day. Now, it's almost time for another big one, with Microsoft bringing its Xbox Games Showcase back later today. This is a double feature too, with a Gears of War E-Day deep dive also being attached to it. For anyone wanting to tune in online, the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase is kicking off at 10 AM PT | 1 PM ET | 6 PM BST | 7 PM CEST later today, June 7. The event will be available to watch on the official Xbox YouTube (4K 60FPS), Twitch, Facebook, Steam, Amazon Live, and other portals. Separate livestreams for American Sign Language and Audio Description will also be available. "This year marks 25 years of XBOX, and this Showcase is poised to be a true celebration, offering world premieres, new gameplay, fresh updates, and more for a swathe of projects we cannot wait to share," said Microsoft about this presentation. With a new CEO behind it that is pulling off some interesting moves, Xbox may have some surprises to reveal today. New looks at first-party games like Halo Campaign Evolved from Halo studios, Fable from Playground Games, InXile Entertainment's Clockwork Revolution, Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from Infinity Ward are to be expected here. We may finally get to see the new Blade from Arcane Studios in action and a new Persona game from Atlus at the showcase too. Surprise announcements may also arrive from other Microsoft-owned studios like Bethesda, MachineGames, Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Rare, World's Edge, or Blizzard. Considering how every new release nowadays is staying away from November and December to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI's release, any launch dates Microsoft announces will probably skip those months as well. Once the Xbox Games Showcase ends, Microsoft will immediately kick off the Gears of War: E-Day Direct. This deep dive into the upcoming prequel from The Coalition should attach gameplay footage and perhaps a release window to the highly anticipated project.
    • People in the '50s and '60s had the same attitude, and we're still here over a half century later.
    • So after some fiddling I was able to get it to run at a pretty stable 30FPS. I'm slightly surprised about how much fiddling I had to do to get there though given what I thought was reasonable hardware: Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics Memory: 16 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon 780M Graphics Graphics Processor 2: AMD Radeon RX 7700S I think I could do it better if I use Linux rather than Windows, Windows RAM usage is stupid without stripping the system down. But once I got it working in a reasonable state, it was so awesome! I felt like a new Bond! If anyone has any advice to get things going a bit smoother FPS-wise, I'd appreciate it.
