actualy they suck in hl2. you cant even flush them or open water in basins etc. :(

not that its important, but still....

btw i noticed that water has no reflections once you reach almost end of coast level. its just blue :o

looking at some pics here I just realized how ugly the game is without all the effects on full and a DX9 GFX card :D......anyhow I have been playing the game like crazy.

Yer its great.

I'm playing with all settings on the highest each tab allows - DX9 - and with 16x something and 6x the other on this other thing (the highest it would allow from ingame) and I still get smooth gameplay. The graphics make my mouth water :p *Slurp*

Oh running 512MB 3200 Ram DDR400 with 3200+ 754 socket and a 6800GT at ultra speed (400 / 1100) ooo bliss.

Steam patched HL2 for me earlier this evening. No change in the stutter problem, so I hope that this wasn't the patch they were talking about.

Was it a Steam Platform update? If so, it was just to make it so that you don't need to check "remember password" to be able to go into offline mode next time you sign on.

anyone else notice how there wasn't any water creatures like in the tech demos? I remember a blue tentacle spearing a combine soldier, can't recall where I saw it though.

584978878[/snapback]

Most of the tech demos were just that. Stuff which never made it into the final game. (Smashing those headcrab-scientiest zombies on a dock with a crowbar...throwing a grenade under a large metal crate to drop it on people setting of a chain reaction...ant lions coming through the ceiling windows in Nova Prospect etc)

Lady operating the crane, huh?.

Kids don't do drugs.

Seriosuly there is no lady, just go up the ladder.

Uhh maybe u shouldn't do drugs cos when u first meet the sand bug things and get a gun on your buggy, the lady drops you down using a crane and tips u upsidedown *kids don't do drugs* :woot: :woot:

The following "log" shows that they are still testing the patch and want to make sure it actually fixes the problem before releasing it...

:)

Its not a problem its part of the game, with my 5.1 surround setup the voice moves around the room etc... depending which way I am faceing the speaking person. Its not a bug.

If you dont have surround sound change your options in HL2 for only a stereo output of 2 speakers

Yeah, got an Audigy 2 with the Cambridge Soundworkd FPS 4.1 digital speakers.

I don't think it's meant to be like that....for example, not far into it theres come dude in a pipe that calls oyu over (just before the big helicopter bit). I was facing him/her and couldn't really tell what they were saying (I've put subtitles on), but as soon as I turned my back to them, everything was fine. (outside)

Same with Barney, that Dr bloke and that woman when you get the hazard suite. (inside).

I don't want to lose my surround sound to fix this. All the other sounds are fine (bullets, explosions, etc).

It's like my front speakers don't work very well with speech, as the speech comes out the back speakers when I've got my back to them. Maybe it's setup for a 5.1 speaker system in the settings - I seem to remembr it said quadrophonic though.

Tim

I for one do not like this system for copy protection for Half life 2.

My reasons are...

one. I cant play the game unless I have an internet connetion. I know there are some who say "most people who play the game do have one" I say what about thoughs who dont? Dont they have a right to play too? There sould be a way to activate the game off line. Maybe like with windows xp having a 1-800 number. What happens if valve goe's out of bussines? Yes this could happen! How will I activate my game on a new PC?

Two. What information is the game sending to steam? How do I know that they wll not use this system to start collecting Information about what games I play, when I play, or start collecting other information we only learn about latter. So they can sell it to other company's, and if you belive that they wont cause of there privacy statement. I say you have to take there word for that. Since there are no laws to keep them from changing there minds latter and doing it anyway!

Three. what happend to fair use? When I buy a game for Xbox. gamecube, playstation2, it's mine and can walk down the block put in my freinds machine and play. I cant do this with half life 2. I know some you will say why dont they come to my house and play. Well what if there PC is better and I want to see how it plays and looks on a better machine. The truth is there a million reasons to want to be able to do this. All completely legal. Ware are my fair use rights? I dont really feel like own this game. I feel more like paid to borrow it!

Finaly. Im my opinion My fair use rights should come first. Copy protection Second.

I know there a some who would say what about the rights of the content owner. Well

they do have some but the content owners are the few and they content buyers are the many and last time I hard. The good of the many out way the few.

Just my humble opinion.

you have your front and back speakers wrong way round OR you have them in the right place but wired to the wrong ports.

or could be a driver issue. What ever it is, its not a problem with HL2. I mean if the speakers were hooked up wrong a bullet being shot wouldnt be noticed coming from a wrong speaker but voice of course would be.

Make sure your rear speakers are set at same volume as the front ones?

I dont really know, that all I can think of, maybe try some new drivers for your audigy.

And youve definately got sound settings to 4.1 in hl2's options?

I'm sure of it - I may have missed that rushing to play it. I'll double check it when I get home

I agree full with this pose.

We all know that stealing is wrong, but so is cutting down a product so much you have to go through hoops to play the thing that you own. I don't see why I should be treated like a criminal every time i reinstall Half Life, WindowsXP, Office XP, QuickTax etc etc

the bit that gets me the most is that I play this on my laptop.... I can't play it when I'm not in wifi distance of a hotspot... this is insane.... also the bit about valve going out of bussiness is VERY valid also...

shame on valve...

    • Thanks for liking it! 😊 That's Arch Linux with Gnome.
    • LOL. Can't even quote and edit a comment correctly. Figures you're a Linux user.
    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
