Ohio certifies election results

The nuts still think Kerry won.

:D

Secretary of State Ken Blackwell certified George W. Bush as the winner of Ohio's 20 electoral votes on Monday, and praised Ohio's much-maligned election as having "performed with admiration."

Despite that proclamation, independent candidates prepared to demand recounts in all 88 counties, and the national Democratic Party announced it is launching a broad investigation into reported voting problems in Ohio, including long lines, ballot shortages and voting-machine failures.

The final Ohio tally showed Bush with a 118,775-vote lead over Democrat John Kerry. Bush's margin narrowed from the unofficial election night results, although not enough to require an automatic recount. Absentee and provisional ballots helped Kerry gain ground.

"This was an election when you had some glitches, but none of these glitches was of a conspiratorial nature, and none of them would overturn or change the election results," Blackwell told a news conference.

As he was speaking on the 15th floor of a downtown office building, a half-dozen protesters -- including some from California -- gathered in the lobby to make the case for a recount.

Presidential candidates for the Green and Libertarian parties planned to file requests for recounts beginning this morning. The campaigns raised the $113,600 needed to pay for the recount under Ohio law.

Republicans said a recount won't change anything.

Democratic National Chairman Terry McAuliffe insisted the party's investigation is not to contest the outcome. But he said national Democrats will spare no expense in conducting "a thorough investigation" into voting in Ohio.

The probe would "help insure that every eligible vote cast is truly counted" in future elections.

If you can't trust the guy who was in charge of Bush's re-election for Ohio, who can you trust? I mean, Katherine Harris, Florida's Secretary of State in 2000, was in charge of Bush's election campaign for Florida, and she remained fair and impartial when counting the votes.

A few glitches? Diebold makes ATM machines, how often do you get a few glitches when checking your balance or withdrawing money? Would it be acceptable? Of course, when the president of Diebold promised, at a Republican fund raiser, to do everything he can to ensure Bush wins Ohio, I'm sure he meant stuff like passing out flyers or licking envelopes.

When I use a Diebold ATM, I get a receipt. If only voting was that simple.

i've met a lot of Republicans on this forum who have pm'ed me. I asked them why they don't participate in RWI and they feel it is really a waste of time considering it's mostly foreigners who hate Bush or ultra-liberals anyway.

Yes, yes, we know. We're either with you or against you.

That's the very same reason why I don't post often, and I'm moderate.

*raises hand* I'm another republican. I just don't come around these parts often because of the reasons JK1150 mentioned, and also because I don't like how regardless of your opinion, people will flame you.

    • Started implementing weapons! Here's a little sneak peek! 👀 Animation was done inside of Unreal Engine using Control Rig! Really useful tool, I don't have to go back and forth between Blender and UE, you can basically make tweaks while the game is running.
    • Keep in mind Intuit has lobbied like crazy to keep taxes complicated so they can continue to sell tax software. They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
    • Oddly, there was a time that UFC games were culturally relevant, largely because of the graphics and gameplay that was different than the norm. But it seems like as the sport grew in popularity, gaming outlets stopped talking about the games.
