[MWSF 2005] What do you expect ?

Recommended Posts

MWSF 2005 is just 2 weeks ahead, here is what I expect from Apple.

  • With so many rumors around, its almost safe to say Apple is working on a flash based MP3 player; iPod Micro ?
  • PowerMac Speed bumps ? I hope G5 goes 3GHz :shifty:
  • PowerBook speed bumps ? Its been quite a while since PowerBooks got an update, maybe 9 months or so.
  • iPod mini 5GB (Gen2)
  • eMac G5 ? Not sure about this one :unsure:
  • Motorola phone + iTunes.

Maybe I am expecting too much :p What do you think ?

Haha, I was thinking Microsoft World Fair or something :laugh:

Um....but yeah. Due to the recent lawsuits, it's quite obvious that we will be seeing "Astroid" although who knows about wether it'll be as MWSF or not.

The Powerbook upgrade is imminent, as is a upgrade to the eMac line. If there are not upgrades to the Powerbook line in January, the next Powerbook release after that is definatly going to be a G5. However, I think we are more likley to see either small speed bumps or dual processers. I bet the eMac will be slightly faster with reduced prices. I would be surprised if they put a G5 in it (but then again, Apple does surprising things sometimes).

I bet er mini will get a (slightly) reduced form factor and the new 5GB drive. New colors are possible too; that's less likely though.

There is a part of me that really doubts the Flash based ipod looking like the one that has been on rumor sites. It seems almost impossible to be functional, plus the main reasoning that people have behind Apple making a flash based iPod is that it would increase their market share......Since when was that a key factor on Apple's mind?

It would be interesting to see if Apple makes its stake on the flash-based arena, but my bet is that you won't be seeing it until flash media costs the same as current harddrives.

Someone around here recently made the point that 4GB CF media now costs roughly the same (retail) as 4GB Microdrives did when the Mini was initially released.

i hope the give us some sorta upgrade on powerbook i am tired of ibooks getting upgardes and pb's left out of game and the ipod mini storage upgrade is for sure( as i think look at how many non apple mp3 players out thre with 5 gig hards ) apple will jump on the wagon for the sake of market share lol!

Right now the only thing my school has on sale is the 15" 1.5 ghz power book (2099 instead of 2299). So I am gonna just assume that only the powerbooks are gonna receive major updates. They did the same thing with the rev A G5s, dual 2.0 was marked down from 2699 to 2099 for the whole month before the new model releases. So the flash ipod, 5gb ipod mini, and speed bump on the powerbook G4 is my best guess. I hope for new G5s though, but I don't think IBM is gonna have the dual 3ghz ppc ready until late spring.

Edit: the 1.5ghz 15" is down to 1999 now...

I expect the following:

* Updated PowerBook (faster or dual G4).

* Updated eMac.

* iLife '05.

* iPod with flash memory.

Apple really need to update the PowerBook family, since the iBook have almost catched up and the iMac/PowerMac have pulled further away... :angry:

I want a rev. c 15" PB soon.

Well then perhaps the famed ipod flash is really the ipod mini converting to flash... it'd make it perfect to target it towards joggers and people at the gym who the regular ipod doesn't really do it for since it will skip eventually

I had a theory about this that I posted in the Mobile Devices forum. Since the iPod Mini already has a CF interface (for the MicroDrive), it should be easy for Apple to simply rearrange the internals a bit and make the drive removable. Then they could sell the iPod Mini with any size of Compact Flash or MicroDrive they wanted (or even without one for people who already have a card). It would seem logical (but then again, Apple doesn't always do what we think would be logical).

13.3" PowerBook  :woot:

That would be cool!

There really wouldn't be much point in adding another screen size to the PowerBook lineup. There are already 4 sizes when you include the iBooks (2 at 12", 14", 15", and 17").

a bad computer... I'm sure I'll like it, I really need other computer in my house... heres only 2 computers for 4 persons!!

My home currently has 3 computers for only two people (was 4 computers until about a week ago). The Dell only gets used for Usenet downloads (hey, I love NewsLeecher for that) and the occasional game of solitaire.

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
