I have to ask though, what programs does everybody use to run their themes??? Is it Shape Shifter....because i mean everybody's menu bar extras does not have that annoying double background, and i was wondering how to fix it?

PS I will be posting my desktop up once i fix that annoying menu extras double background.

Cheers,

See you all soon :)

He's talking about the folders in system preferences that have the desktop pictures ;)

No no...I'm saying how did you add custom icons to each sections of the folder...Minimalist, scenery, etc

Should be in the resources. Check there.

Well that's pretty cool! Thanks for that (Y)
I forgot to include the information about the icons in that article. You can just place them in the resources folder. It looks for 20x20 tif's if I recall.
anybody got any info on how everyone is having "NORMAL" menu extras in the menu bar?without the double background? Thanks in advance
No one knows what you are talking about. What "Double Background?" If you are referring to the fact that your menu extras still have the default background when you menu bar is different, try logging out and then logging back in. If that's still not working, it could be a third party program that has the menubar background hard coded in as a graphic. It's rare but it happens. But really, we won't know exactly what you are talking about until you post a screenshot of it.

Here's Safari 3 with SafariStand installed, for example...

I think he is referring to examples like this, where SafariStand hardcodes the default Aqua menu bar as a graphic, and thus, it overrides most of the Canum theme I've applied with ShapeShifter. (You can see some parts of the menu bar are properly displaying Canum.)

Like Joshua said, you'll need to likely disable some third-party add-ons (in this case, SafariStand) to get everything looking the way it should.

It's been a long time since I was using ShapeShifter regularly although I have been a Stand user for years, since it first came out in fact. I have never seen Stand do this. It could be that it was added in a more recent build after I stopped using ShapeShifter, but I find that really odd given I can't think of any reason why Stand would need to draw the menu bar.

This continues to look like this even after quitting Safari and reopening it?

What I was referring to wasn't third party apps drawing the menu bar but rather third party apps that have menu extras. Often times a developer will just have the menu bar graphic as a background on their menu extra so if you change the theme, the individual menu extra still looks bad. This is rare however given that most developers are smart enough to just make transparent menu extras and if they aren't, most good themes will have an appskin for it that covers it.

The screenshot you posted just simply looks to me like when you haven't restarted the app.

yeh that's exactly what i am talking about...although i do get it in safari i also get it in every app including finder!?? which is odd! But i'll have a play with it tonight and check around and see what i can do! Cheers

Apply theme. Log Out. Log In. Still there? If so, post screenshot. It's hard to help someone who's not willing to take a little effort in describing their problem accurately and providing good resource examples of it.

here is a screenshot of what it is doing....

This is still happening after i have combined restarted, logged in and out etc...so what's going on?? i still don't know! lol Hope you can help...thanks for the help so far

Hope to hear from you soon :)

Anybody know of a good fix to use with the menu bar extras...it adds an extra background behind each item and doesn't look to:(ood :(

i'm using shape shifter to manage and run my themes

PLEASE I NEED HELP ASAP!

did you log out or reset your mac after applying the shapeshifter theme? if not then there's your problem ;-)

here is a screenshot of what it is doing....

Hope to hear from you:)oon :)

I'm guessing you're on Leopard?

no actually it's the illuminious theme and i'm on 10.4.10

Hanging for the release of leopard!...

But yeh i have heard of a fix which is turn off the relaunch finder when the theme is applied...and relaunch the finder using apple option esc and i did that and it still does not work :(

How do all of you guys on here get your themes to work in that regard of the menu extras as i'm still yet to see this error in ANYBODY else's themes!! :( just mine

I don't know what you mean by "menu extras," but see the screenshot I attached earlier. As you can see, I use the Canum theme, but it doesn't work properly with Safari 3 + SafariStand. So, there's usually no easy workaround, you'll just have to revert to stock application setups.

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.

    • This is of course "clickbait" WTF? It is literally your example but tech based. A "clickbait" title is a sensationalized headline designed to manipulate readers into clicking a link using things like "fear" rather than delivering objective facts. A "clickbait" headline also usually provides little value compared to the hype generated. How does this headline not qualify? It's a generic often reused headline that is overly sensationalized. Oh no! "millions" can't use this app anymore. It has no basic facts like what f*cking app. You read the article and it's the Samsung VPN which no one cares about and there is a million free VPNs. How are you defending this ######? Headlines like this (and among other things) make me read Neowin much less than I used to in the past. It's trash...
