Mastertech
Why bother though with v1.5.x out?
Steven
Why bother though with v1.5.x out? 585375774 Because not every single person in this world will want to run 1.5. There's nothing wrong continuing with developing older revisions.
Pink Floyd Veteran Posted January 29, 2005 Veteran Share Posted January 29, 2005 shrug I'll keep 1.5 anyway

tomwarren Veteran Posted January 29, 2005 Veteran Share Posted January 29, 2005 I know certain java applets depend on certain version numbers. Especially some web apps used in enterprise (frontier) so occasionally you need one than one version installed on your system.
davemania
Honestly why would you want to run the older version? 585377891 Because it is stable furthermore not all Java software are tested with Java 5.

Why do people use PHP 4.3.x instead of 5.0.x Because 4.3.x is more stable for todays PHP scripts!

kainashi
thanks for the heads up. i'm sticking with 1.4.2 for the time being. :)
Mastertech
Sorry but v1.5.x is not in Beta anymore and is stable. I see no reason why it would not be compatible with v1.4.x apps. I would need some proof it is not stable or not compatible, I just don't buy it. Sorry I've been using it since it came out of Beta and installing it on every machine I build with no problems reported or experienced. J2SE 5.0 is a significant release including many new features and updates while preserving compatibility and stability.

Mastertech
Whats the difference between this and J2SE 5.0 Update 1? 585381093 v1.4.x is the older version of Java, (latest build v1.4.2_07). v5.0 is the latest version of Java (latest build v5.0 update 1 or v1.5.0_1). v5.0 includes all the features in v1.4.x plus the following New Features and Performance Enhancements. XML is one area i have worked on and I can tell you that there are some problems in 1.5.0 that isn't found in 1.
