Given that it comes from the old world word 'wares', as in 'the old hag had come to trade her foul wares' or sumfin, I think its a bit obvious how it should be pronounced .... the same.. :)

And if you ask me, any one who pronounces it differently deserves a slapping for being a l33t kiddy, whos lost the ability to type sensably :s

I can't beileve its that hard to figure out that it comes from software, or wares.

Um but it doesnt.

Warez - a tradable commodity.

MP3s are considered warez, but arn't 'software'.

ware1 Pronunciation Key (w?r)

n.

An article of commerce.

An immaterial asset or benefit, such as a service or personal accomplishment, regarded as an article of commerce.

[Middle English, from Old English waru, goods. See wer-3 in Indo-European Roots.]

You are insane!

Duh. It's from "wares" like a peddler peddeling his wares..

If you pronounce it "war-ez" you're just dumb.

you don't go to the "Hardwar-ez" store to buy a hammer, you don't go to "softwar-ez" Etc... to buy your games, Martha Stewart doesn't sell her products in the "Homewar-ez" section of K-Mart... so in the same vein you don't pirate your "war-ez" off the internet
