Which graphics/video cards work with DWM/DCE?

Recommended Posts

Please reply with the name of graphics/video cards that actually handle dwm/dce smoothly on 4074. I have had problems with my old geforce mx 400 and was wondering if others managed fine with newer cards.

Minimum spec would probably be the 128 MB GeForce FX 5200, but I'd suspect that most 128 MB DDR-based GCs would do the job. If you're picky, look for one guaranteed as DX9-compatible...

I have a ATI Radeon 9600 XT and it purrs perfectly for DWM. It one of the lower end cards that are direct x 9 natively (which is what you need to have for DWM to work right now) I think I purchased my card for aroudn $200, but they are a little cheaper now, and especially if you buy it from New Egg.

I've got an nVidia 6800, when I enable DWM the display gets just a little shaky. No artifacting, just a little jerky. Course there are plenty of drivers I havn't tried.

Thanks Everyone for your replies. I purchased a RADEON 9600 XT for around $129, hopefully it will get the job done. I'll post some screenshots.

Second, because of the advanced graphics technology in Longhorn, you will need a graphics card that is supported with a Longhorn Display Model Driver (LDDM). In mid-2004, Microsoft described these cards as being DirectX 9 compliant, though it's unclear whether the requirements will increase. Microsoft will provide clearer graphics card guidelines during the Longhorn Beta testing cycle, according to documentation I've viewed.

As "long" as your video card supports those requirements, there should be nothing to worry, so it does not necessarily need to be a 256MB, 128MB, Brand or model video, just as long as it supports LDDM, DirectX9.

I think the minmum will actually be 64MBs.
