I have used OO defrag for a while (the V4). It's slow, but it does the job more perfect compared to Diskeeper.

Diskeeper, on the other hand, was nothing compared to OO defrag. However, when the version 8 comes out.....it really rocks. Even since the OO defrag is upgraded to the v6 (November 4,2003), Ihave also found that Diskeeper V8 is still the best...

For all other kind of software i usually can figure out myself which is the best simply by my experience and using it for a few weeks......... Like firewall, AV... etc

Defrag program is one of those i can not figure it out. First there is not a proper way to measure the difference.

With the New O&O defrag. Perfect Disk 6. And DiskKepper 8. All these new version are now equally easy to use. ( O&O used to be slightly harder becoz it has more option but with the new version i think it is on par with others in terms of user friendly. )

I think Perfect Disk is only 5 Mb of Installation. While Diskkeeper uses the most Harddisk space; ~20 Mb installation .. (If this point matter to you that it )

if you measure by size of install, then i think VoptXP is the smallest..only 3megs.

i think Norton SpeedDisk lays out files most logical and optimal way.

directory entries and MFT+ reserved space to very begining of the disk, followed by custom "files placed 1st", after that comes "frequently accessed" files, followed by "infrequently modified", followed by "normal" files, followed by "frequently modified", followed by free space, followed by "infrequently accessed" files, followed by custom "files placed last".

yes, it is not as fast as say diskkeeeper8, but i think it improves performance more than diskkeeper...i think it's better to have optimal file layout like w/ speeddisk and have 2-3 fragmented files, rather than unoptimal layout and have 0 fragmented files

    • Samsung messages is still alive and well. They reversed that and decided to our more effort into it.
    • I think every American should have a course in a 'dry sense of humour' at school; and perhaps 'using sarcasm in jest' oh, and also 'the use or irony in humour'.
    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
