If these are really "definitive threads" then why not have a separate definitive software category. Have the definitive software zealots fight it out.

Besides, I really doubt that there is really a noticable huge performance difference between the defrag programs. The MS one is slow at defragging but does a pretty good job overall.

Just wondering which one to get, I've tried both and both are good in their own way and have featuresets and vopt has a bigger "wang" in terms of features but which one would be best for xp pro is what i would like to know!

any ideas ? :huh:

ok ive decided to stick with xp's default defragger after uninstalling diskeeper (used it months and not noticed any diff over xp's one other than extra diskeeper service running in background...)

I also have a tweak so you simply have to right click a drive and select defrag to CLI defrag then auto exit it, its very fast too.

create a notepad doc and paste in

; context_defrag.INF

; Adds Defrag to the right click context menu in Windows XP

[version]
signature="$CHICAGO$"

[DefaultInstall]
AddReg=AddMe

[AddMe]

HKCR,"Drive\Shell\Defrag\command",,,"DEFRAG.EXE %1"

now save it as a .inf file and right click it and choose install.

done
