the question isn't really defined clearly enough. for all you know, some companies may pay tens of thousands of dollars to buy an antivirus/firewall, as opposed to our $40-50 Norton programs.

...which i use :) easy to update, secure for the typical home computer, user friendly, cheap, what more could you ask for?

I have Ad-Aware right now and I like it but im not sure if it will find any viruses. Im looking for an Antivirus program that's small yet offers frequent side updates with new virus definitions [something like ad-aware].

what should I use, I would really like some suggestions.

Gosh dont even consider Norton, their software are so heavy , and slow down everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Norton and Symantec should not be included on the poll as the same item.

Norton AntiVirus is bloatware and should be avoided at all costs.

However, I rather like Symantec AV Corporate or Small Business Edition.

I ended up voting for PC-Cillin just to avoid the confusion that someone might actually think I liked Norton AV.

Just tried McAfee VirusScan = (N)

What's with the "Security Center"? All I wanted was the virus protection. I don't care that they also make a firewall, spam protection, et cetera.

Why did it update itself through Internet Explorer? There should be an integrated/seperate program for updates.

I use NAV, but my dad forces me to use VET. I am therefore forced to use both, and he whinges when he doesn't disable VET before checking email and they confict with a million pop-ups. VET Sucks - it doesn't have email checking, and it offers no options for cleaning/removing the virus when its resident monitor finds one.

McAfee here.

In my personal experience, Norton's missed so, so, so much. It couldn't find a trojan if you gave it directions. While not perfect (in reality none of them are 100% fool proof I guess), it's been the most accurate in my expeience.

While version prior to 6 were shocking beyond belief. (5 used to kill Windows Millennium completly) 6 was a vast improvment.

McAfee also has a PDA Host side scanner for EPOC, Palm, Windows CE and others, which is useful.
