The Official Mac OS X "Tiger" Thread

Recommended Posts

Technically you could hack the NIB files with Interface Builder (ok, I haven't really used developer tools since Jaguar, so... those may be in Xcode) to make it look however you really want it to. I know for certain apps you could do that.

Otherwise, I don't think Apple would give you a way to do that. Maybe some third party application would let you, if that's what you mean.

If Safari looked like the new Mail, I'd be in love with it. But for now, I've always liked Safari as brushed metal.

personally, i just need to start actually using it rather than look at it in screenshots. When Panther first came out I thought it sucked until I got used to it, now I think the Jaguar look is crap.. so I'll have to wait and see.

i might be able to get used to this, and who knows, perhaps they will have alternative themes, like have the panther style one to choose from...

Tiger only comes with 1 Aqua theme, and I doubt Apple will make more themes in the future for us to use.

Took the money out of your account? Did you pre-order at a store on online? Did you use a credit card or check card?

Merchants alway put hold on funds on credit cards when they preauthorize a purchase.

Are you sure they actually took the money or is it just a preauthorization?

Merchants want to be sure your Credit card actually has the balance and it prevents you from overcharging by buying other things on the same credit amount.

As a consumer, it may "feel" like you have already been charged but you will not be charged interest on it until they confirm the transaction at the time of shipping. If, for some reason, they could not ship it to you and the order was cancelled, they would only have to request the hold/authorization to be removed rather than going through the trouble of crediting your account.

Well when I checked my balance on wednesday, i had a balance of ?102 and then an avalable balance of ?44 which means they took out the money for tiger.

[quote name='roadwarrior' date='Apr 14 2005, 20:45(Y)Y) Yep, that is what most likely happened.  I'd almost guarantee that his was a check card.  I work at a hotel and we constantly have people complaining about things like this.

Listen people:  contrary to what the advertisements tell you, a check card does NOT act just like a credit card.  They ARE processed differently.  If a business does a pre-authorization on your check card, that money is coming out of your account immediately!  For places like hotels that do a pre-authorization at one time, and the actual charge at another, you can sometimes actually see TWO charges show up on your card for a few days.  The second charge eventually will drop off and the money will be returned to your account, but I've seen this take a week or more.

I have a Visa Electron card, will check my account tonight before work and see if the money has gone back in. I hope so any way, annoys me when you preorder something and they take your money when they havent even got the item to send.

I caved in and bought it with my Student Discount... I was gonna go to the store and buy it, but I couldn't justify extra cost just to hang out with fellow Mac users en masse. :D

Still might go, but with Tiger already on my PowerBook since I'll get it to my house before people in line can buy it. :p Make those in line jealous.

Well, as I said, that's just the way debit cards work. It's not the fault of the company (in fact, they haven't gotten your money yet either), it's due to the way credit card companies process them.

I hope there's a way to change Safari's brushed to Plastic!

(thanks jagdedge for telling me how to do it)

and to all you people who dont like the new look of mail, with Interface Builder and the old mail png files you can bring it back to its old boring aqua look

I believe it has been made available today (leaked onto the Internet).

I don't have it, so don't ask.

The only leaked copy I've noticed anywhere was on a newsgroup, posted a few days ago (no, I won't mention what group). It is labeled "pre-release" though, so it's probably 8A425 or earlier. I'll get the GM when ADC members are allowed to download it, or when they ship it to me, whichever is earlier. The only way I'll download a "questionable" copy is if someone makes the CD version available, since it would make reloads on my iBook easier (until I get a DVD drive for it).

I just found something while poking around 8a425, in the iTunes Resources folder... there's a  icon with "Movies" on it.. and "Mpg"

Maybe just something to do with the music videos from the iTMS? Although I don't understand why it would be labeled "movies" and "mpg".

Yeah like that, although I hoped the outcome would look better: More Mail 2.0-ish. ;)

I really have to get used to that 50-50 Aqua/Plastic look, starting tomorrow.

Taken from ThinkSecret, the same news I commented on yesterday night.

Tiger Gold Master leaked

A 2.5GB disc image of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger appeared on the servers of highly regarded ripping groups this past weekend, some two weeks before its official release. Details are scarce on where the disc image, which installs Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger build 8A428, originated from but the file is slowly making its ways to more and more servers and will likely end up on file sharing networks later this week.

Apple has kept an extremely tight leash on Tiger, which was declared Gold Master at the start of the month, keeping the build out of the hands of all but a select few outside of Apple.

:shifty:

    • OpenAI is now rolling out Lockdown Mode to more ChatGPT users by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in February, OpenAI first announced Lockdown Mode for users who want the most comprehensive protection from potential attacks. At the time of the announcement, the company mentioned that this feature was available to a small set of highly security-conscious users, including executives or security teams at leading organizations. Today, OpenAI announced that Lockdown Mode is now rolling out to all personal ChatGPT accounts, including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, and also self-serve ChatGPT Business accounts. Users can enable the feature from ChatGPT Settings > Security when it is available for their account. When Lockdown Mode is enabled, ChatGPT limits or disables several features that connect to the web or external services. These include live web browsing, Deep Research, Agent Mode, and more. Here is the complete list of services that will be disabled in Lockdown Mode: Live web browsing: Web browsing is limited to accessing only cached content. Search results may be limited, unavailable, or stale. Image support: ChatGPT may not display images in regular responses or retrieve images from the web. Users can still upload image files, and image generation remains available where it is otherwise available. Deep research: Deep research is disabled. Agent mode: Agent mode is disabled. Canvas networking: Users cannot approve Canvas-generated code to access the network. File downloads: ChatGPT cannot download files for data analysis. ChatGPT can still operate on your manually uploaded files. It is important to note that Lockdown Mode does not completely block prompt injections from appearing in content that ChatGPT processes. For example, a malicious instruction could still be present in an uploaded file or cached web content. However, the mode is designed to reduce the ways such an attack could send sensitive information outside the conversation. Along with Lockdown Mode, OpenAI today also announced that the Active sessions feature is now available across ChatGPT accounts and workspace types. This feature allows users to review where their account is signed in across devices and end sessions if required. A session will have the following information displayed: Device or browser information. First-party app context, such as ChatGPT, Codex, or API Platform. Approximate location. Sign-in date and time. Whether the device is a trusted device. Whether it is your current session. OpenAI highlighted that the Active sessions feature will not be available for accounts linked to an organization’s single sign-on setup, including SAML or OIDC.
    • with LSTC and ESU, moving to w11 or linux because w10 suddenly will not work when in reality it works and its a better choice, of course there are also developers that only test in 11 or force you to have TPM and Secure boot for the sake of "better security" in games. or most likely people is buying new PC that only ship with 11
    • with LTSC and ESU there are still viable as a stable platform not that they care and let people deal with w11 crashing and burning every month support mean shet if the platform is trash
    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.
