lol it does work! You need to drag it out of the Widget dock (press and hold) while pressing F12.

OK, that way works. I thought he meant that you did that on a Widget that was already open. Cool!!

Well the disappear when accessing Dashboard again and I haven't had much luck getting multiple widgets on the Desktop either.

Considering the amount of people who have recieved OSX 10.4 (just wow, it feels so different speed wise. My powerbook feels more responsive for once)...

I'd heard tell that iChat 2.0 can be made to support msn...my question is...how?!

Unfortunately, that Dashboard bug keeps the widgets on the top layer. You can't put the widget behind a window (e.g. on the desktop).

Question, has anybody here been lucky enough to receive one of those pre-sent copies? If so, what's the final build number? I've heard conflicting reports between 8A428 and 8A42A. I'd like to make perfectly sure. :p

iChat 2.0 supports the Jabber protocol, and you can talk to other IM services through Jabber, therefore iChat indirectly supports MSN. You need to download an official jabber client, such as PSI first and setup a jabber account. Add the MSN service, enter username, password, etc... and connect to MSN. Quit the jabber client and fire up iChat, in the preferences, setup your jabber account and you are set to go.

iChat jabber uses a separate buddy list, so you will have 2 lists, maybe 3 if you use bonjour. Also, the contacts are added with some funny characters, etc..., such as the % sign, so you need to go through your address book and change their IM name to what iChat displays to get it to display their correct name. Also, you will not be able to do audio/video chat, it's text only with no other services such as file transfer.

Why not just use iTunes Mini Mode?

Oh I dunno, I just thought it looked cooler than the mini one.

can we ask help related questions now? i posted one about one of the widgets but it was deleted on this. if it's still a problem, mods can let me know and erase this too. i didn't get a warning earlier, so i'm posting again (heh, not trying to undermine you or testing your patience)

in the dashboard converter app, the corrency converter said that it was last updated on april 8, 06 and doesn't upgrade to the rates now, nor does it given me an option to do so. the convert option in calculator updates and works nice. i was wondering if others know how to fix this (if possible)

and is it possible to SEE the status of the mail checking? in 1.x mail would "show" that it's connecting/closing connection and all that on the pane, but the new one doesn't say anything, and a ping if there's something new. anyway to 'add' the viewing of the status?

I see a spinning disk next to "Inbox" while it is checking.

I'd like to know how the update the rates as well. Seems like it should be a simple thing to do. :p

Mail does show the status. The "pie" represents how much it's completed. You could also open up the Activity Viewer if you wanted more info.

I don't know if the mods will delete my question, but here goes:

Does anyone know how I can totally remove "startup disk: Macintosh HD" from my About Mac window? It's really bugging me and I have changed the startup disk to my one and only HD, but it still appears. I have no other devices connected to the machine and have not booted from anything else since.

as long as you only have one drive connected, the internal drive in your computer, it shouldn't be there. Sounds like you've got a bug.
