Memory leakage is a pain in the a**. And startup time is  horrific too. =\. What's the difference between running FF, Opera, IE? How is FF "easier" to run? They all do the same basic things. Oh and my Opera8 blocks ads fine =P.

For one, with Firefox, you don't need to mess around with .ini files, you click on an XPI file (an extension) and firefox installs it and you configure the extension using the GUI. That's easier...

Start-up time? horrific? seriously, waiting 5 more seconds for a browser to start-up won't kill you, it's really like the Ads in Opera, where you get a trade-off of Ads while your use the browser. Whereas for firefox, the trade-off is start-up time for a clean, simple browser. (and the start-up time is only a temporary side-effect, where as the Ads is pretty much permanent until you pay)

that's a bit shortsighted.

although i'm an Opera fan i agree that some of the things aren't the most ideal, but FireFox isn't either.

simply because we all have different needs. we don't live in an ideal world.

the learning curve of FF is just as steep btw.

it may look simple at first, but you'll have to figure out what 1000 extensions you need. then figure out which extensions work with eachother(because there are quite some extension that let FF crash or act weird when combined)

and then basically start all over again by deleting your profile once there's this minor update which should only fix security issues.

i know, once you know how it all works it's not too bad, but the ini's of Opera arent either.

a pro is that you only have to set it up once, and the settings from this profile can probably go until version 9 etc.. (don't get me started on "Mozilla backup" btw)

Why can't I install downloaded FireFox themes just by clicking them? Why do I have to find an external program just to do that? O.o

Opera included all the extensions that I need, why bother d/ling others? Pointless. And even with all those extensions, the exe file of Opera is still about the same size as FF's.

The startup time of FF is give or take 20 seconds on my computer, default skin, adblock, etc. That is pretty damn slow. IE takes 4 seconds to start. Opera takes 5 seconds. Why would I want to wait an extra 15 seconds for FF to load? Btw my Opera has no ads, so whats your point? I'd rather not have ads than have a slow loading time.

Please, get your facts right. Opera is more standards complient then firefox, period :rolleyes:

Why do you love open source? I'm guessing you can't code through the way you spell rules.. :sleep:

Yes, gotta love updating all those extensions every time you update Firefox.. Not to mention the chance they will conflict with one another.

I tried FF a few different times, always got sick of Extension-hell. It's a good browser, for sure, I just think Extensions are implemented wrong. And 90% of them are just there to rip off Opera features anyway, so there's no point, to me.

      Or... just use Bitwarden. Free, and has on-prem option as well. Works both on desktop and mobile, wherever you are. The age of local password files is over.

      I actually got to use one of those so called "backup codes" once. It was for a customer, I choose the backup code option, and by the grace of god, they actually hade them printed out. Imagine my surprise, when after using the backup code, Google then told use we had to enter a code they just sent to the gmail address we currently did not have access to. I was not amused, Google backup codes should be the end all get out of jail free card, because you had to have access to the account to even get them.

      On the topic of being locked out of a service. Recently two different friends of mine got locked out of their Google accounts. Both were hack attempts and one of them is waiting 30 days before he can get back in. He had backup codes and MFA but not a passkey. It was a browser token hack. Anyhow he has to wait 30 days for the dispute or whatever to end. The other person only had a password and is screwed losing all of the email, docs and years of photos. Google won’t help her at all. Her fault because she had no backup/recovery setup. Enable passkeys if possible. Also do NOT use browser based password managers. If using a cloud service make sure it is one you can fully sync to one of your devices so you can back it up. Like a PC or Mac with some backup drive plugged into it. Google is the worst to use IMHO. You can’t sync your photos at all. You have to use the “Take Out” service which is manual and takes days. That service strips the meta data from your photos. Also Google Docs synced to a device are useless without a Google accounts. MS Office/Libre Office is not going to open a link to a Google doc to a dead account.
