[Definitive] Xbox 360 Thread

The Xbox 360 seems to have potential but what new stuff is coming up for the system? Some launch titles, and then Halo 3. Then what..? Where is the innovation behind the system?

I'm asking seriously; does the system seem like it'll have a long, healthy lifetime?

I hate to be critical, but it seems like they are starting off on the wrong foot. I still have yet to see my first XBox360 ad on TV or in a magazine other then a video game one or any hard information of what games are being released. They are releasing in 5 months and they have done practically next to nothing in marketing to reach the general public yet. The majority of general public at this point probably doesn't even know the name XBox360 or when it is coming out. They should be marketing the crap out of the damn thing because they have Ken Kutaragi from Sony blasting them once a day and they don't even respond. They are already competing against a system that is not coming out for a whole year and they are allowing Sony to do what Sony did to the Dreamcast and talk as much trash as they want to without fighting back.

They need to get the hype machine going or they will have a tough time selling.

well you obviously didnt hear about the MTV show about the next gen console or read look at any magazines or anything along those lines

586148930[/snapback]

The majority of the worlds' population does not watch MTV. First you need cable/sat which not everyone has, and not every country gets MTV. The show was mostly targeted towards teens who won't have the money to buy the system. And yes I did watch the show, which was rather lame. 25 minutes of random crap and 5 minutes of actual information/gameplay footage about the system.

Besides video game magazines, which obviously mention XBox360, I subscribe to both Time and Newsweek. Both have mentioned the PS3 and cell chip, but I have seen nothing about the XBox360. Even my IEEE newsletter that goes out to engineers mentioned Cell technology. Joe and Jane Average Consumer don't read video game magazines or go online to tech sites or read engineering newsletters. So where do you expect the average person to learn about the system that is coming out in 5 months? MS needs to get on nationally televised channels or something that everyone will see. Show screenshots, movies, or something of launch games during commericals breaks of popular shows. By the time the XBox360 rolls out, I predict that Sony is going to start flinging mud full force. Sony Pictures owns the rights to TV shows and movie studios, all they need to do is start slipping advertisements in and millions of people will see it. MS has billions upon billions in the bank, they should start spending it now because 5 months will go by quickly.

i dont like it.

But anyone know if they will have a Oakland raider face plate.

and what do i do with my saved games on my xbox hard drive when i get the 360.

Thats cool, my guess is that almost every accessory company is bound to produce faceplates and Im sure someone will make a series of Football team themed faceplates.

gotta remeber though think about whose buying, mostly the parents, and parents dont just go " o hey i wanna go drop an arm and a leg on a new system, lets just throw darts to pick one" no its there kids for the most part who tell them want they want from santa or whatever...kids will find out, word of mouth is better than any advertising skeem ever...plus its a few months off...need to have it all finished, heck we dont even have a price or date yet

you dont want to see a commercial that says "buy the 360, it will be out before xmas and will only cost 299-399$$$!!$!$!one !

@jmole, MS is saving the money to make major spending happen until new shows on TV and when MLB is late in its year, when NFL starts to come on its 5 months why make 100 million last 5 months when it could have it last 3 months . i hate to tell you the Avg. american have cable/sat i dont but i had xbox Mag and the avg us gamer do have a gaming mag. the avg american doesnt read the Times or newsweekly. it was in the LA times.

@Ateoto, i wish they had a black xbox360 so if they made a raider face plate, maybe not since i will want a LA lakers one.

the NFL teams with white on them will look better then other teams

Jesus, do they still teach grammar in schools? Having some sort of sentence structure really helps when reading.

If MS does what you say and focuses their advertising around American sporting events, that is a pretty dumb decision. Sony owns television shows and movies. All they have to do is slip in a commercial for the PS3 during prime-time TV or a movie trailer and millions of people will see it. Not to mention a variety of people will see it, unlike advertising for American men who like to watch football or baseball.

I just got my August issue of Popular Science magazine in and it has an ad for the PS3 and a full featured article on the cell processor. You think three months is going to be enough time for MS to advertise their system, when Sony is already shoving the PS3 down our throats and talking crap about the XBox360 on a daily basis? This is exactly what they did when the Dreamcast was going to be released and MS is not even doing a damn thing about it.

Netrack:

No, MS could at least have a commerical that says something like "It's Coming" or "It's Coming This Holiday Season", showing a rapid succession of video clips of games, and then at the end show the Xbox360 logo. Just something to peak people's intrests. MS has billions upon billions of dollars, it's not like they can't afford to run commericals for 5 months. I saw more commericals for Bush and Kerry for 5 months and they only had millions each to spend. Edited by jmole

ya but kerry and bush had more commercials then most consoles, i havent seen much console commercials most have them like 2-3 and when the console comes out.

why are you going to get the xbox360(eveyone that is going to get 1)

when Sony is already shoving the PS3 down our throats

i will dissagree with that i dont think sony is shoving the PS3 down are throats i havent seen any PS3 commercials and the PS3 information is about the Cells.

Ken Kutaragi has sounded off the xbox360 many times when giving interviews to Gamespot and Ign,

"Xbox360 is not going after the PS3, infact it is going after the PS2"..... he said something similiar to that that made me think.... what a prick he is... i hope all japs are not like that... i was also reading an artlicle which actually said that M$ isnt popular in jpan becoz the japanses are unwilling to buy a console which is manufactured overseas....

hence why xbox360 may not do too well in japan

that is sad and i heard that to^^^

and that is why MS is getting games made buy Japs game makers.

Xbox360 is not going after the PS3, infact it is going after the PS2

funny since the xbox is better then the PS2 even the GC is. if anyone is jacking a console it will be PS3.

i hope all japs are not like that...

No, not every Japanese person is like Ken Kutaragi anymore than every American is like Michael Jackson. Generalizations of a culture based on one person are not representative. But yeah Ken Kutaragi is a prick :p

However, Microsoft was more than happy to discuss the power of the machine. Graphics are controlled by a 500MHz ATI graphics chip, and the console is powered by three 2GHz cores. Its 20GB hard drive is removable, so you can attach it to a friend's Xbox 360, almost eliminating the need for memory cards. However, there are two slots for the cards included on the console.

well what happened to 3Ghz cores. They snuck that one in under the wire. Saying 3 was a load of hype at E3 to make to look as good as PS3.

Umm, Microsoft said 3Ghz like a week or so before E3, and before anyone knew anything about the PS3. I think that's a typo.

It provides a user-friendly interface for removing unwanted apps, legacy components, and optional features safely, giving you more control over your system. With Winhance, you can improve performance, reduce clutter, and enhance privacy without the need for a clean install. Beyond basic debloating, Winhance offers extensive optimization tools. Users can tweak power plans, adjust gaming and performance settings, control notifications, and manage Windows Update behavior. Privacy-focused settings allow you to limit telemetry and data collection, while system customization options let you personalize the taskbar, Start menu, Explorer, and Windows themes. Winhance also supports installing or removing software efficiently, including external apps via WinGet integration, streamlining both new setups and daily maintenance. New AI privacy groups have been added for Windows AI, Microsoft Edge AI, and Microsoft Office AI, giving users clearer control over AI-related telemetry and feature usage. In addition, new settings in Gaming & Performance introduce AI taskbar pin toggles, options to remove AI apps, and controls for AI services and scheduled tasks, allowing users to better manage how AI components run in the background and appear in the system. For advanced users and IT professionals, Winhance integrates WIMUtil, a tool for creating custom Windows installation ISOs with automated configuration. You can generate autounattend.xml files, inject drivers, and apply your chosen Winhance settings automatically during installation. Most changes are non-destructive and reversible, with clear explanations in the GUI. Whether you’re optimizing a single PC or managing multiple systems, Winhance delivers a faster, cleaner, and highly personalized Windows experience. The Winhance.Installer.exe includes both Installable and Portable versions during setup. Winhance supports both Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit versions. Winhance 26.06.12 changelog: Features Builder Mode — build a Winhance config file or autounattend.xml without changing anything on the PC you're sitting at. Flip the new mode switcher to Builder, set everything the way you want it, and save the result as a Winhance config or an autounattend file ready for deployment on other machines. Sponsors & Supporters page — the exit donation dialog is gone. In its place, an in-app page (heart icon or the More menu) recognizes the businesses and individual supporters who keep Winhance free. It works offline and is fully localized. Change History — Winhance now keeps a receipt of everything it does. ChangeHistory.txt records every setting change (before and after values) and every app install or removal, with clear headers for config imports and bulk actions. Open it from the More menu. Hebrew language support — Winhance is now available in 29 languages. New Explorer customizations: desktop icon visibility toggles, This PC folder visibility, an icon cache size setting, and automatic thumbnail cache cleanup. New "All apps view" setting for the redesigned Windows 11 Start menu, and the Windows 11 system tray icons setting is now a dropdown with more control. App-local UI zoom — press Ctrl +/-/0 or use Ctrl+MouseWheel to scale the whole app, just like a browser. New External Apps: EA app, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, Rockstar Games Launcher, PowerShell, and Helium Browser. Bug Fixes Layouts no longer clip when the Windows text size slider is set above 100%. Accessibility: Narrator now announces setting names on toggles and dropdowns, previously unlabeled buttons are labeled, and progress updates are announced. Silent updates now respect your custom install location instead of reverting to the default. Cancel in Review Mode no longer clears your app selections. OneNote is now detected correctly for Win32 Click-to-Run installs. Clean Start Menu applies more reliably by also writing the group policy path. WinGet errors are no longer silent — error details now show in the terminal output. Fixed a startup crash on older Windows builds caused by a .NET runtime regression. Config import now converts power setting values correctly and no longer re-applies an already-active power plan. Improvements App icons load noticeably faster and cover almost everything now, including legacy capabilities and optional features — they come from a dedicated, checksum-validated icon repository and are fetched in parallel. Software & Apps polish: per-icon tooltips, extra table columns, an app sort dropdown, relocated search, and a cleaner compact view. A warning now appears when the Connected Devices Platform Service is set to Manual or Disabled, since some Windows features depend on it. • Of course the problem was Secure Boot's new certificates. Install media created by the official Media Creation Tool is already signed with a valid certificate from Microsoft, so maybe that certificate isn't "up-to-date" enough for machines with the new ones installed in the UEFI. There's really no other logical explanation.
    • Here is how I fixed Windows 11 not booting after clean installation by Taras Buria Story time. A couple of weeks ago, I experienced a very odd thing with my computers. I was trying to reinstall Windows 11 on my primary device, and everything was going smoothly until the installer performed the first restart. After that, my computer entered the boot disk selection screen instead of continuing the setup process. Huh, that's odd, said I, and selected Windows Boot Manager only to see it fall back into the same screen right away. Then I tried booting from the USB drive with the same result—the PC kept returning to the boot device selection screen, and removing the drive would send my PC to UEFI, again, with no way to launch Windows 11. I fired up my spare laptop, which has been sitting unused for quite a while, to see if I am dealing with a defective USB drive. Nope, Windows 11 installed and started without issues. After trying another drive and checking all the possible settings in UEFI, I decided to try disabling Secure Boot. Lo and behold, Windows 11 started as it should have been in the first place, continued the setup process, and reached the initial setup screen. Victory! After I finished the setup and applied all updates, I re-enabled Secure Boot, and Windows 11 started without issues. Some time later, I tried reinstalling Windows 11 on my laptop only to experience similar issues, with UEFI claiming a Secure Boot violation. I checked whether the drive works on my main PC, and yes, it installed Windows 11 without errors. I scratched my head, went to UEFI, turned off Secure Boot, and installed Windows 11 without issues. After that, I enabled Secure Boot. Note: I used the official Media Creation Tool app for my USB drive. Also, UEFI was properly configured for Windows 11, including no Legacy Mode, a GPT-partitioned drive, and TPM and Secure Boot enabled. From my experience, if you are dealing with similar symptoms, I recommend two things: If you use old Windows 11 install media, create a new one with the latest Windows 11 release, especially if you know your PC already has the latest Secure Boot certificates. If you cannot create a new one, turn off Secure Boot, complete the installation, download all available updates, and then re-enable Secure Boot in UEFI. Note that you need to turn off Secure Boot after installing Windows 11. Otherwise, the installer won't run, claiming a hardware requirements mismatch. I believe the problem hides in Secure Boot certificates that expire this month. Microsoft is currently rolling out new certificates, and maybe a mismatch was causing these issues for both of my systems. I am out of my depth to make a definitive statement; this article is flagged as "Opinion," as I only share my experience and some tips on how to fix the problem. If some of you possess deeper knowledge and understanding of the situation, please share it in the comments. As for everyone else struggling with computers not booting after a clean install, the two steps above should get you out of the pickle.
