Questions for the xbox 360 fanboys. Will the xbox 360 controller work under Windows XP? I heard you can use it with longhorn but no word on XP.

Would be nice just to buy a xbox gamepad to play pc games.

Dont start again, theres a difference beween fanboys and fans of the console.......

But yes initially only the wired one will work with the pc (i assume it uses the same lead that plugs into the bottom of the pad to charge it up) then they will release the wireless adapter for pc later.

That thing about XBOX games not being compatable on the 360 is a big fat full circled lie!

Quote my post in BPN.

They arent compatible right out of the box, they will probably enable you to download a patched XBE from xbox live to be able to play it, so its not a lie at all.

heres my thing, the xbox 360 looks like to me a combo of a media center windows with xbox. I want a media center but do i want a pc media center or an xbox 360.  The line from what a console like the xbox 360 and a pc are getting closer to distinguish

it is NOT a media center. its a media center extender... so youd need win mce to use the extender feature anyway.

i'm guessing the networkable media is from the media connect software which i use on my tablet pc.

Assuming Xbox 360 has backward compatibility (I realize this is definitely not confirmed yet), would I be able to play the Halo 2 campaign without the renders popping? I loved the campaign, especially the portion where MC was on Earth, but seeing the cutscenes load while I watched them kinda ruined the story for me, because rather than being immersed in the story (Bungie's goal, I believe) I was distracted. I work at a game store, and many customers I've spoken with share this opinion about single-player Halo 2.

That's an interesting question. It looks (according to our muckety-mucks) like the 360 will in fact be backward compatible and if it is, folks will definitely be playing Halo 2 on it. Thing is, we're almost certainly not going to revisit the 360 code. We're already too busy working on our next project. The pop-up was one of those compromises we had to make to ensure the nearly-zero loading times for the game. The alternative ? no popping and lots of loading, was actually much less palatable. To change or fix that, would take significant resources away from our new stuff, and I very much doubt we'd do that. And from what I understand, contrary to internet swirling, you would simply put your Halo 2 disc in a 360 and then play it. You wouldn't have to re-purchase some kind of 360 special edition version.

that's BS, MS is aware that the inicial price point is one of the things that helps early adopters to get access to the technologies they want... a retail price point of $499 is merely speculation and big pile of crap and will for sure put MS out of the console biz... the price hasn't been confirmed yet but you won't be paying more than $350 for it at launch.

While I half-expect it to be cheaper come launch, I don't think $499 USD is an unreasonable price for the next gen systems. For the price of the top of the line graphics card you get a machine that will stay viable for the next 4-5 years.

Well whatever it turns out to cost, I'm getting one. The XBox360 and the other consoles all look amazing!

Don't know if anybody has seen this? I'll post it anyway.

It's a Dashboard Screenshot of the 360
