[Definitive] Xbox 360 Thread

Some people at e3 have been saying that the ps3 cant use both displays at 1080p they have to have the mode set to 720p to use both screens at the same time for very wide screen gaming.

I see this feature pointless as if i want a realy widescreen tv then id buy one and then id rather just have a generaly bigger picture so i would just get a very big TV or projector.

1080p would look very nice but its going to be a very exclusive thing to use and dont see many dev's using this option as thats one big ressolution and rather have it at 720 with better fps to support the game.

You're saying the PS3 can stretch one image across two screens?

Like you said, that's kinda useless...I understand it with PCs, as monitors relatively cheap and light(er than TVs). But with TVs, it's rare for someone to get two matching TVs, HDTV at that, and go to the trouble of putting them side by side. Besides, what else are you going to use it for besides playing PS3? Waste of at least $2500 dollars. I highly doubt this is what the dual-outputs are for.

I'm sure the dual-outputs will be mostly (or only) used for multiplayer.

And another thing that I found kind of bugged me with Sony's presentation was that all of the videos *I saw* were just tech demos. None of it was actual gameplay. Granted, the system is one powerful SOB, especially in that Unreal3 demo, but I want to see gameplay footage. I think that is why I really enjoy the Ghost Recon 3 video...it's actual gameplay. No prerendered video clips or demos...in-game footage.

No actually, it was all real time rendered. The demos they played one after the other were pre-recorded but they were rendered real time at the time of recording. The only exception would be Killzone 2, but Tim Sweeney himself said that the system may very well be capable of that. Fight Night, the system demos and UT2007 were all real time.

BTW, the GOW demo had some obvious framerate drops during the presentation whereas the UT2007 demo was smooth the entire time. ;)

Well in the GOW demo they had a lot of stuff going on.. In the UT2K7 demo, they just had 2 characters doing practically nothing.

Bear in mind that the PS3 wasnt actual gameplay it was just rendered scene with 2 characters in it. The x360 presentations were running on a dev kit which is roughly 1/3 power of the x360 not the actual console itself. Which is pretty impressive considering the graphics were awesome cant wait to see games running on the console itself.

Same deal for the PS3 demos.

Nope they were running on the actual console in realtime.

Nah most wernt. They were either renderd on the dev kit or were a concept of the game.

Untill I see a demo unit at a trade fair then i will make my mind up atm its too early to decide. Also there is no firm pricepoit for each unit.

Though a x360 is tempting me over the ps3.

i like this pic... shows its apple hardware, running at 1/3 power

Some of the visuals are stunning, like the Godfather screenshots and the sports sims. Technically the 360 is certainly an impressive system.

It does make me wonder how much it will cost though. Anyone have anything on that?

aw nice to see everyone playing nice.

i suspect the system to be around 299-399, hopefully not above that. a media center extender alone costs a rediculous $200 bucks...

only thing i really hope ms changes their minds on is a slot loading dvd drive. its a pain to load a cd in tray like that. but i do understand why they opted for this, bc of cost effectiveness.
