[Definitive] Xbox 360 Thread

Recommended Posts

"Apparently, the Xbox 360 will be sold at two price points. For $299 you will get the base system which doesn?t have a hard-drive or backwards compatibility. For another $100 you get the system bundled with some sort of optional add-on which will include WebTv.

Taking a page from the PSP-launch playbook, I?ve been told that about 80 percent of the systems initially produced will be bundled with the add-on. So unless you feel like waiting, you?ll be plunking down nearly $400 for your Xbox 360."

So is this saying the first 80/100 consoles basically that are released will be the higher spec? or will they be the higher spec for the basic price?

Cause i want a HDD but im not sure whether im going to be able to afford getting the higher spec, added with stuff i definitley dont want. but i suppose it is optional i can not have it. this is a great post. anyone know how much roughly in UK it will cost?

That $400, translates as roughly ?225, so im guessing M$ will make it ?250 for the higher spec and ?200 for the basic?

That would make more sense, as its only a ?50 difference so more people would be inclined to get this, especially for XMAS.

I haven't read any hardware news lately, but wasn't it clear back in May that the 360 would ship with a hard drive regardless? That there'd be no models without an HDD?

^ My friend who works at Best Buy got a chance to ask his manager about Xbox 360. Apparently, he said that the system will be priced 500 CAD and that it will be part of a bundle. I guess it won't be that expensive at all. Also, apparently, the manager told him the harddrive included in the bundle would be 80GB. :D

Also his manager knows more stuff, well that's what the manager says, but he won't reveal anymore stuff.

Cool. Hope he is right. :)

Uhhh... In the 1st post.. it says that Halo 3 is definitly going to be a game for Xbox 360... which is awesome :D However... It doesn't list Bungie as one of the definite game making companies... I would think that that would be obvious unless some other company has bought the rights for the Halo series...

I think that the list shows the third-party developers that have promised or given some sort of indication that they will be making games for Xbox 360. Bungie isn't listed there because it is first-party and people know it will make games for the Xbox. ;)

Developer Confirms: Xbox 360 to See 40 Games by Thanksgiving

A lead developer on at least two Xbox 360 games, speaking on condition of anonymity, has said the Xbox 360 should see more than three dozen games by December 1 this year.

According to our source, "the release 'window' is ... expected to see 40+ titles before Thanksgiving."

This touches on two important questions with regard to Microsoft's next-generation Xbox. First, it addresses the length of the mysterious "launch window" for Xbox 360, which was previously estimated to be from the system's early-November launch through the end of December.

Second, the revelation tips the hand on third-party support in the console's first few weeks, with Microsoft itself only expected to release a handful of next-generation titles at launch.

As we creep ever closer to the Xbox 360's launch, DailyGame will keep you up to date on all the launch-game and other insider information we can get our hands on.

NBA 2K6: New Gameplay Details, Xbox 360 Box Art

If you're at all like me, the baseball season's chipping away at its schedule merely means the NBA season is that much closer to kicking off. So imagine the excitement when 2K Sports today released new details about the passing mechanics in NBA 2K6 and gave us a glimpse of the box art for the Xbox 360 version.

2K Sports has enhanced the basic directional passing and lead passing in NBA 2K6 for more accuracy and realism, with alley-oop passes able to be performed at anytime. Of course, in order to complete a successful alley-oop, the timing and situation must be right, so don't go you won't want to go lobbing the ball from the opponent's baseline, or the pass will fly out of bounds or result in a turnover.

New to NBA 2K6 is also "Icon Lead Passing," a feature allowing gamers to perform a pass to a specific player and lead that player to a designated area on the court. In other words, gamers will be able to use athletes with great passing attributes to perform flashy passes without needing to pop in NBA Street V3 (read DailyGame's review).

In addition to releasing this new passing information, 2K Sports sent along the box art for the PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The box art for each is darn near identical, but we decided to share the Xbox 360 version, since that's the only next-generation system coming out this year.

:D

I'm sad the 360 well $500 Canadian why couldn't it be $400 sure $100 less but thats alot when your 15.

Because 400 would be what the USD version will cost, due to currency differences. In reality, according to the currency converter, the Xbox 360 Premium package should be $484.

399.99 USD = 484.408 CAD

1 USD = 1.21105 CAD

1 CAD = 0.825730 USD

So if in fact it is 500, we are being ripped off.

Will it be able to play media over the network by default ?

i primarily use my xbox as a media center using my PC as the slave for movies and if it doesnt do this by default i cannot justify spending the money at the mo.

i am guessing as it will need all manner of codecs loaded that it won't!

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
