I was just mucking around and decided to put the game in a window as I've never played a windowed game before, it was really jolty so I put the settings down (they looked horrible) but after changing the AA down to 0 from 4X it run nice and smoothly. I then resized the window and my computer crashed, this is the first time it's crashed in a loooooooooong time.

I would have thought running the game in a window would let me put the settings up if anything, and would not put an incredible amount of pressure on the computer but I actually had to put the settings down.

I quite enjoyed playing it in a window I could do other stuff at the same time, would it help if I turned off Seti @ home as that uses 100% of the CPU?

Actually, may go back to playing full screen and having 4X AA and full settings again. Who knows.

Started my own guild, saving enough money to buy a cape now, currently got 1 platinum and 700gold towards it which isn't bad, and I've gone up to level 10 with 2000exp needed for lvl 11. Did althea's ashes first time but with help from a level7 who quit half way, a level 11 and a level 15.

Anyone else getting bored of the game?

I am a lvl 15 W/Mo.. I played the game many many hours the first week or so I got it, but now it has been a few days since I've played it.

Only so much hack and slashing you can do in a game?:

play with friends, preferably using vent or any other voip program.

ive been 20 for awhile now and i had all the elite skills which i need except one. shield of judgement is a bitch to get. i feel sorry for anyone buying a celestial sigil now that they are going for 30-60k gold. even though i still could afford one im happy that i got mine for 5k.

I know I have some reading to do before I start getting into this game, but I was just wondering when/how you get skills? Right now I'm a lvl 5 Necromancer on an RP server and I still don't have any skills. I also still have my default armor and I'm sort of feeling around in the dark trying to figure out this game. Can anyone give me some tips? Thanks.

Rewards for quests OR you can buy them from NPCs here and there. but usually they only have a few to offer.

Alot becomes available is post seer ascalon. Just keep doing quests for people and you'll get there (I actually went through to post seer at level 4) so talk to Tydus in ascalon if you really want to move on. You'll then need to do some more quests to be able to afford better armour, i just got an all leather set and I can't find anything else to get until I move a bit farther on in the game.

Do I have to do missions to reach those icy mountains? I really want to explore them but can't find a way through to them.

I think you can do either missions or walk. You can walk through Diessa Lowlands to Ascalon Foothills and then to the mountains from there. The foothills are hard though as it is crawling with hydras...

Doing the missions will take you to yak's bend (in the mountains).

hmm anyone know of a good place to get a good estimate on going values for items? I have a +4 armor bow upgrade that I want to sell but I want to find fair value for it before I try to sell it to the highest bidder.

Expect very little for that, very little. Its only +4 armour, compared to whatever your wearing, so the change will be minimal and unnoticable. I would expect nothing more than 120 gold.

The Guild I'm in just got a Guild Hall yesterday.....for the lovely price of 53k !

We settled on the Wizard Isle by vote, then after numerous screenshots, we thought we'd have a Guild War....I think we need to work on our PvP skills :)

Just hit level 11. Also just got a decent bow, 14-27 damage and I've had it customized. So plus 20% makes it:

16.8 - 32.4. Cost me 500, but I'm not short on money at the moment so I've just bought loads of stuff. I really want to go up into the mountains, I'm trying to do as many quests as possible so that I can get up there, which quest will send me off to yak's bend?

guildwars.com:

"As part of our commitment to bringing you new content via our free live updates, the first streaming update for Guild Wars offers players access to two extensive new explorable areas: the barren expanse of Grenth's Footprint and the fiery depths of Sorrow's Furnace. You can get a sneak peek at these two areas today, with concept art and a bit of the lore on this page.

And on Wednesday, we'll preview this area with an in-game movie, a movie that will also be screened at the E3 trade show in Los Angeles."

These guys ROCK!

Well, I'm nearly up to level 7 but the game keeps crashing on me (the screen goes into standby mode, then comes back garbled and then the sound loops). I'm in Ascalon about to head over to Regent Valley. It's really annoying as the game is great.

I hope either an ATi driver update or a game update will fix it, but I have no idea what the issue is.

BTW, any Neowin guilds that are open to players like me?

    • If you have a TV in your living room, chances are you can probably just use the Steam Link app and play your huge PC in big picture mode, effectively giving you the Steam Machine experience to see if you'd actually like it. The good news is the Steam Machine can have it's drives upgraded. It has a USB-C 10Gbs port as well, so the 512GB drive could be quickly moved to an external enclosure and repurposed.
    • This machine could very well be a second gaming PC for their living room as a console experience. So we would have to assume their main PC exists as well; With that said, I have 10gb home network with a 2.5gigabit internet connection here so we tend to have more than enough speed to download games. However, we can't make use of the 10gb LAN using Steam's built in transfer tool because it always compresses transfers and that slows the transfer down to well below a standard gigabit port speeds, sometimes as slow as 200-300Mb/s transfers. While that's probably still faster than most internet connections anyway, if they'd fix the LAN transfer issue it'd be upto x5 faster even on a gigabit LAN, than simply dropping a 2.5gbe port on there with hopes of a few people having fast internet connections. There are solutions, work arounds, like using LANCache if you run a NAS... or simply copying the files over manually using a network share.
    • Samsung announces ultra-fast UFS 5.0 storage to supercharge mobile AI by Paul Hill Local AI models tend to run a lot more slowly than cloud services like Claude and Gemini; however, Samsung has just announced that it has developed its UFS 5.0 solution, which increases data transfer to speeds of 10.8GB/s, enabling faster storage and processing in mobile memory that has the potential to provide more optimal local AI experiences. Commenting on this development, Jangseok Choi, head of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, said: If you’ve tried local AI, you’ll know it can be quite slow, especially if using the larger parameter models. By developing this new solution, Samsung says that storage is evolving from just storing data to a core piece of infrastructure that supports AI computation, too. The Korean company said that UFS 5.0 integrates the latest embedded memory interface standard from JEDEC and achieves up to 10.8 gigabytes per second (GB/s) transfer speeds. Regarding write speeds, Samsung UFS 5.0 can reach 9.5 GB/s. Both the read and write speeds are twice as fast as those of the previous UFS 4.1 standard. Aside from being ideal for local AI, Samsung’s UFS 5.0 is more power efficient by 40% compared to UFS 4.1. Samsung achieved this by implementing innovations such as clock gating and multi-voltage technologies. UFS 5.0 is also ultra-compact at just 7.5mm x 13mm x 0.9mm; that is 16.7% smaller than UFS 4.1. The company said it will be bringing it to multiple devices in the future, including mobile, wearable, and extended reality.
    • A bit like the steamdeck, this probably isn't for you.
    • Gamers Nexus already did their review, and building your own will be faster and cheaper, so not very convincing.
