[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Recommended Posts

Nintendo has another game convention in japan, called Spaceworld. I think that is when they will reveal everything.

The biggest problem with nintendo is not its hardware, its not its software, its not their financial status. It's that Nintendo of America is so overly dependant on Nintendo of Japan. This is not the way how it suppose to be. Both branches should have certain amount of autonomy. US gamers are not Japanese gamers and vice versa. Nintendo of America has to appeal and prioritize their marketing of games SOLEY for US market.

hate to break it to you but Spaceworld has been basically cancelled since 2001. Nintendo has pretty much ended that show. if they show anything else they MIGHT show it at TGS.

Someone who thinks like me :).  Hopefully nintendo sees some of what people are saying in all of these threads and decides to debut something over the next couple of days, heh.

Then Nintendo would be rushing it, and thats not what they will do. We have Microsoft for that one.

I agree, but that's how I feel about each company. All 3's press conferences have severely disappointed me, and I was hoping this year to be the best (yeah I know, the real show hasn't even started yet). Sony showed basically jack crap when it came to real PS3 games, Microsoft didn't show us anything we didn't know about 5 nights ago, and I was expecting Nintendo to show me a revolution, not just THE revolution.

Next year should be a good one though, as Nintendo will be geared up for launch, and Sony might already be launched and we'll see what's to come (Y)

585936258

yeah- well the ps3 and rev. are still in dev. explaining why there wasn't much.

(and why was so much leaked on the xbx? how'd that happen?- seriously, i think it was part of their marketing campaign, muahahhaa... :ninja: )

Hmmm, a year to polish and refine the production of their games. Yeah, I'mma stick with Nintendo all the way. This Revolution looks slick and I'm already conserving space on my entertainment unit for this lil guy. The GBA micro, it could go either way......small product for small hands=corner the market. Keep it simple and good things happen!

This was enough to satisfy my wants for now. As some of you posted already, E3 '06 is gonna be Nintendo's to own! The other two have already committed to specs, hardware and software. Without disclosing the specs on Revolution, Nintendo have given themselves a years worth of breathing space.

How did that saying go.......he who laughs last, laughs hardest?

Nintendo 4 Life!

Im not saying that Nintendo is trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft. I don't believe that the power of the PS3 or XBOX 360 can fit into a console that is "3 DVD cases" tall. Nintendo has ALWAYS been about innovation. And thats what they're sticking to.

585936243

They will do what they did when they shrunk the various Gameboys into the Gameboy Mini and what Sony did with the PS1/2 into the PS1/2 slim. Look at the GameCube, almost as powerful as the Xbox yet look at its size. Look at the size of the iPod and its storage capabilities. It can be done, it just requires the money, time, technology, and mostly the experience.
Sony said "Spring 2006". By E3 2006, the tech demos and early demos of the new games that are comming to the Revolution will be stomped by the released consoles. You guys are getting me wrong, I WANT Nintendo to do it right. Im sure that's exactly what they are doing, but by next year, Im afraid the hype and anticipation wont be there for Nintendo. I believe next year, the consumer focus will be on software and not hardware. THIS was the year to wow us.
Both you, myself, and everyone else has no clue what a Revolution game looks like. So to say the E3 2006 tech demos getting stomped on is way too premature.

And patience is a virtue, all good things come to those who wait. Most of us waited for Half-Life 2 for years and I don't think sales hurt significantly because of the long wait. And now most of us are waiting this holiday season for Zelda and I enjoy every little tidbit they toss us. If they revealed everything about the game now, what fun would it be to play. I like how they are being tightlipped about the console. People become impatient to know what it is and it generates hype. If they spill the beans about the console now, there is nothing to look forward to.

Also the E3 show isn't even over yet....

!

What if the revolution combines the VR goggles, the TV, the game, into one big entertainment "THING". Think about it, a game is played out like a movie. If there are 2 graphics cards that could mean that the movie would be played on the TV for people to watch and enjoy while the people wearing the goggles will be a character in the movie/game (seeing things from their perspective, etc..).

jmole, I see your arguement but when a gamer can play the experiance, get his/her hands on it and live it, it's a whole other ball game. I believe that Nintendo needs to hit HARD at TGS this year.

Well if you jump the gun too early you can have another Dreamcast, SegaCD, and Sega Saturn on your hands.

"Hey this is Sega, we are showing you all our Dreamcast console has to offer and all the games for release day a year early in advance of the PS2."

Not once I think in console history did revealing everything ahead of something else ever turned beneficial. Unless if someone can correct me on that...

Take a look at the PS2, XBOX and GC. The PS2 released way before the other two consoles, and it was selling twice as many PS2 units as XBOX and GC combined daily.

Finally, gor to the end of the thread. Lost of quotes to reply to

I don't really know about the design, looks a bit too plane to me, though I do love the blue light coming from the drive slot.

585933064

Yeah I think the same. I don't like the design at all, The XBOX looks better IMHO, but hey, what's important is the games.

yeah, i don't know how anyone could ever even play a game with it

585933402

The GCN controller was perfect for me, except for playing MK with the tiny pad.

When did anyone ever say that they should get out of the buisness? But really, just look at Sega. You can't stay #3 forever.

585933655

Sega didn't have so many powerfull franchises for them. Yeah, Sonic and the like were soooooooo great, but still, it was basically always the same game, and it still is (which is good in many aspects)

1.  The majority of emulators always have glitches, aren't perfect, and some plain suck.  Even some of the ripped ROMs have problems too.

2.  Its hard to get a 2 player game going on your PC let alone a 4 player game for the N64.

3.  Because it is illegal to have ROMs for games you don't own.

4.  Being able to have a console with 5 systems in one if great.  (NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Revolution).  Some of us can get rid and sell our game collections.  All my older consoles/games are taking up a crapload of space.

585934162

I seriously didnt expect this.

585933915

Me neither, and this aproach is better than just backward compatibility, like PS3 suporting PS1 and 2, cause that is provided you ave the original games. SO if I want to play FFVII, I have to find someone that still sells iit, and in good shape. Nintendo will put it out there for you, say I want Mario 3, I just download it for free

I'm underwhelmed (backward compatability means nothing to me), would have liked to know more on Revolution. :/

585933993

Yeah, me too. I actually expected a tad more, but hey, at least this "Christmas morning" feeling will last longer. I think it was just that the PS3 pree conference showed a lot, and I was expecting something like it (btw, I have to admit Sony did good on theirs, but lets hope their games actually are like those thcnical demos)

Also how would you play duckhunt :ninja:

585934150

Yeah that's a good question. How will you play all games that require an extra periferal, from Duck hunt to even DOnkey Konga (I know you can play it with the controller, but still, it wasn't meant that way)

They are using IBM and ATI just like the Xbox360 is using.  I doubt they would tell either IBM/ATI to make a significantly less powerful console.

585934223

Yeah, that's a great point.

they didn't say NES games would be free.

besides. they still charge $40 for Super Mario Brothers (Game Boy Advance).

585936048

But that is because that's portable. There is an added value

All specs will most curtanly be shown at E3 2006. Next year the next next gen console war starts! Iwata said that when we see the graphics, we'll say: wow!. That's enough for me anyway. Revolution will get great titles and offer great entertainment for sure.

585936234

If he said the graphics will wow us, specially after both Microsoft and SOny's press conferences, which showed some cool ones, it's because he has something up his sleeves. Maybe it's all that VR thing popping out everywere.

Take a look at the PS2, XBOX and GC. The PS2 released way before the other two consoles, and it was selling twice as many PS2 units as XBOX and GC combined daily.

585936350

Yes and it was also the weakest hardware wise, which many people are already associating with the Revolution. I don't think Sony showed much of their console right off the start because I remember there was alot of debate wether it was going to go with CDs or DVDs. They just made that outrageous statement of Toy Story like graphics.

xbox 360 comes out in november of this year and ps3 spring next year. You guys really think that nintendo will START showing specs and demos next E3 when two competitors are already out with finished games being played and anyone will care? honestly, next E3 the halo 3 and MGS 4 playable footage will be enough to overshadow the revolution, nintendo NEEDS to get some solid info out there before the end of THIS YEAR. Want to be secretive to save ideas? thats fine, go for it, but i really think holding out until next E3 will be like shooting themselves in the foot.

DISCLAIMER: The following is my personal opinion...

Last year i really thought that the xbox looked ugly behinde the PS2 and that the gamecube looked the best. This year i have to say the revolution looks like last years PS2 and sony and M$ have learned from their previous efforts. True we dont all buy consoles for their physical apperance, but it sure is a BONUS and a completley VALID point to biitch about! :)

For the first time in quite a while I can agree with Nintendo's marketing. Look at it this way, if people plan on buying a single game system the ps3 is definately enough to make them hold off from buying an xbox360. This is my opinion and you may disagree, but the playstation brand name has become golden.

So basically, we have a bunch of people sitting on their asses waiting for the ps3. The specs have been released. They're impressive without a doubt. A year from now, however, we will have been holding onto this info... letting it sink in. Letting it get old. Technology will have been moving forward as it does What's the cycle on video cards, six months? Things will look very different a year from now.

So, maybe, three months or so before the ps3 launches, nintendo shows of their stuff. Has waiting harmed them? Not in any way, no. Obviously, they need to deliver on the goods, but this has nothing to do with when they release the info. All the people who have been waiting on the ps3 three now have something to think about. They have not spent a dime yet. Why would having early info on a console make a person more likely to buy it? Personally, if I was running a company I'd much rather grab people's attention five months before releasing a product than 15 months prior to release.

Edit: Forgot to mention this... I was writing about people planning on buying a single system, but this obviously applies to those who will be buying two systems as well. As long as Nintendo shows everything before people start to buy the ps3 it works the same way. For those of us buying three consoles... well, none of this means anything.

i have seen alot of posts about how the xbox has done better than the gamecube, i can agree with that if you look at what most people like better but microsoft has lost money on the xbox and nintendo has consisently profited from the gamecube. xbox 360 is being pushed out because microsoft wants to put the first xbox behind them.

i dont want to anger anyone, but for me nintendo has become the 'other' console, regardless of if they release their specs now or later, there are 2 types of people, a very small percentage of people who only see nintendo and will hold out and only buy the revolution as their one next gen console, and then there is the MAJORITY of people who will either get an xbox or a PS3 and a revolution as their 'other' console. it happened with the N64 and it happened with the GC.

My ps2 is my "other" console. Better known as my "sits in the closet until a decent game comes out which is not on gamecube" console.

Everyone who hasnt seen enough pictures of Revolutions(This is just a code name it states this on the nintendo jap website) heres sum more defined picks to drool over, colors and what looks like backwards compatiblility for contollers for older games.

* REVOLUTION is the development code name,

It is not long title.

I'm so not looking foward to this console. I can just picture the launch titles: Mario Revolution, Zelda Revolution, and Metroid Revolution, and throw in a pokemon game for the 5 year olds. I think ninendo will go the sega route, this will be their last attempt at a console. They f'ed-up everything.

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
