I use Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition on one of my computers and Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005 on my other. So far, I have not had any viruses, spyware, or other security problems. I have heard a lot of good things about NOD32, BitDefender, etc. I think it is a matter of personal preference really at this point. Some virus scanners detect more viruses than others but a lot of those extra detections don't seem to be in the wild.

Here are some test results as to what the best Anti-Virus software supposedly is:

was trying to decide whether to keep nod32 or switch to mcafee?...

nod32 ha been good, hasn't picked up any viruses through all my residential checks and i am relieved, but then worried that it might have been missing certain viruses and are eating away at my system.

mcafee was a good AV when i used it a while back...just would like to hear some personal opinions for this situation, and any experiences or mishaps that have happened with either.

Nod32, here is why. I ran a scan right before I uninstalled norton, it found NO infected files. Then I installed Nod32 and ran a scan. Nod32 discovered 37 infected files that Norton didnt, it even found a file on my C: drive that was holding TONS of warez that wasnt mine!!! And all of those files were infected.

NOD32

The same thing I did but I switched to Kaspersky. I think it has a better layout as well.

No contest between those option, NOD32 is the clear winner.

It's is true that Kaspersky has a nicer interface (plus it's also a fine scanner), but my feeling is, if you know how to use a computer you'll have no problems with the NOD32 UI. Especially since it spends 99% of it's time sitting in your system tray without you even needing to look at the interface (I still haven't figured out why Anti-Virus companies like to fill their software with cartoonish pictures).

I dont get why people are complaining about the interface. Nice and minimal. No extra junk buttons or anything.

I assume they complain about the interface of the main NOD32 program, not the Control Centre, which is a very easy to use (and attractive) interface.

    • I got this notification just now in Android: So I went in to disable the "Other" or "Marketing" notifications in Notifications management: But it came through the Now Playing? So if I disable that I no longer get what's Now Playing in Notifications? I'm a paying subscriber, not on the free plan... can they sink any lower?
    • Population especially in high density areas creates more heat and more humidity. This can be noticed in an indoor arena or concert room which heats up when the room or arena fills with people, without air conditoning to cool it down, Watering of lawns creates more humidity as the moisture from the watering rises into the atmosphere, creating a more humid condition. The again, depopulating an arena or room after an event will drop the temperature inside. Desert areas are less humid for a number of reasons, including a lower population density. Tel Aviv has horrible weather, unless you like it hot and humid. Summer days are regularly 90+ F with humidity well over 70%. It is probably not as bad as Mississippi but still it is bad enough.

    • I hear you on browser password manager, in my case I have two Google profiles, one was created when Google decided to grandfather us out of Workspace for Domains (with the replacement being too expensive for 25 users) resulting in my domain email address no longer being able to be registered to a new Workspace I created (for myself and another co-owner) so I could use Takeout and sync over some stuff to the new Workspace. Then I have my personal Google profile which I could be logged into on my desktop or Mobile, so I am saving passwords on one or the other, and when an URL changes another password for the same service gets added, it basically ends up being a giant mess. Unless I missed something is there a local decent password manager that can override the browser password managers for Chrome, Edge, Firefox (profiles) so that there is only one vault, and does that also support Passkeys (which to me are still confusing because sometimes it will ask for a Passkey on a phone I am no longer using!) Microsofts implementation of Passkeys is the worst!
    • It's utterly baffling that we have no idea when we'll get new features even well after they've been released. Why Microsoft thinks this is a good rollout strategy is beyond me.
