0 virgo89
Hi, I need to know what the best free Antivirus is Avast AVG AntiVir OR any other free AV. And how does the best free AV compare to the paid ones?
0 xxdesmus
Symantec Corp 10, no doubt.
0 CoolCatBad
Those three are all pretty good, and give much the same protection as big-ticket AV's without the bloatware they contain. NOD32 is probably the best commercial product, as regards price and simplicity. The most important security tools are safe habits and commonsense, no warez, keep your system updated, avoid trashy websites....etc.

0 IceDogg
I agree with CoolCatBad, you have to also practice some common sense. To many people get the "best" protection software then do really stupid things thinking the software will protect them.
0 gaurav
I'd go with Avast among those.
0 fr8t
I'd go with Avast among those. Avast for "best all around protection" freeware.
0 Smigit
avast, although it can be a lil resource intense. I disable the skins but, no real point in them.

0 tylerm
Panda is by far the best, but not known very well in the US. TruPrevent technology detects and reports would-be viruses before they are actually classified as a "virus" we have run Panda here at work for almost 2 years and have yet to have any problems with viruses, and this was after stints with Norton-berfore it was symantec and trend micro. Its easy to set-up and easy to administer through AdminSecure. Panda all the way for me.

0 Speedy40
I use F-Secure Internet Security but I didnt see it in the voting list :(
0 Quillz
I take back what I said. I'm now using AVG Free Edition instead of McAfee. Much less resource intensive, and simply a better product. Better detection rates and better removal rates. It's sad that a freeware app can beat a paid app.
0 Shrouded Nemesis
I use clamwin..but upon looking at avast (which is now free for home users) i may be changing, clamwin seems to take forever scanning over my games folders :-/

0 Pink Floyd Veteran Posted March 25, 2006 Veteran Share Posted March 25, 2006 ok my nod32 license end on march 31st and I'm wondering if I should renew it! nod32 had cought many worms and crap from internet and I'm happy with it. I use AVG for my wife's pc but since she does not go on internet very much (pc mostly used for university homework), her pc isnt very in danger like mine is for everyday use. The last time I used kaspersky was with the 4.5 pro version with the corporate GUI. Personally, I hate all childish GUI and I like fast and small memory footprint from an antivirus. From what I see on internet, the new kaspersky has this "new" user friendly GUI that I don't like very much. But if something is very good, I don't mind about the bad GUI as I'm wondering about the latest kaspersky antivirus. ok, now I don't mind paying for an antivirus but I also don't mind having a free alternative as long as it is as good as nod32 (from the wonderful experience I had with). Such a long reply, I am wondering if I should renew or try something else.. kaspersky, free alternative?
