Yes, its very true.

The largest Supervolcano in the world lies under Yellowstone, and when it goes off, its bad very very bad. Estimates run from 80% of the US population being wiped out, to a mass extinction event worldwide, to a drop in temps around the globe up to 5-10c for several years. Not to mention the initial explosion would wipe out anything within several hundred kilometers. yay.
