P!P
why isn't this getting any news coverage. they had a little segment on CNN, but now they are talking about MJ. 586066846 MSNBC had some text about it. It's midnight in New York so all the reporters are sleeping. I'm sure they are bringing people in. I would be very surprised if this doesn't become breaking news. If this happened during the day, I'm sure all the channels would have broke in.
BroChaos Veteran Posted June 15, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 15, 2005 There aren't any major fault lines along the East Coast. There is however the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is a major tectonic feature. There's also several volcanic islands off the coast of Africa which could cause a "Super Tsunami" which would wipe out much of the East Coast of the US, along with most the coastal areas along many countries in the Atlanci basin areas.Could also be a meteor/comet strike in the Atlantic, doesn't have to be a big one. :| 586066838 hehe, we watch the same shows on the discovery channel. the canary islands are ready to collapse, which would create super tsunami that would wipe out the east coast. and i didn't feel a thing in los angeles... rsktkr
I'm in San Jose, Ca. about 300 miles south of the epicenter and the local tv station broke into programming and issued a tsunami warning. They say any wave would hit us in about 15 minutes from now. I'm not too worried because they are not seeing any immediate impact up the coast. We'll see. gigapixels Veteran Posted June 15, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 15, 2005 Just yesterday I woke up to a 5.6 down here in SoCal... It was kinda scary waking up to such a strong earthquake, especially since I have a loft bed that can shake pretty easily :o

tch1005
Isn't this the second one in the past week? There was one in Chile today too. 586066775 Add one more, there was a 4.9 O.E.R. in Crete this morning (Yesterday morning for me as it is currently 02h06 05/06/16) ... How much do ya wanna bet there will be 2 or 3 more earthquakes in the next few days... I am guessing a 6.0 for Japan, and a 5.4 for Iran... Just guessing, basing off of past earthquake clusters...

rsktkr
I always worry about earthquakes out here even though I have been through the biggest (7.1 in '89). The problem is you don't know if this is the first in a series of progressively larger quakes or if that's it. I went through a quake when I was a kid that was about a 5.0 and it freaked me out because I was home alone. When I finally calmed the hell down BAM! a much bigger and more violent one hit. That stuff stays with ya. I'll be sleeping in my jeans and tennis shoes tonight...
