Beta 1

Winamp 5.04+ Required

(Latest Winamp version recommended)

In development since late last year (December 2004), Valkyrie is my fifth Winamp skin released to date. I've been wanting to make a skin like this for a while, and after a couple of attempts (started from scratch 4-5 times), this is what I came up with.

With this skin, I am trying to break away from my usual glossy lcd screen look and went for something more minimalistic, which I do think I've accomplished. The display area is the center of the whole skin. Aside from housing the currently playing song's information, it also holds the Equalizer (Alt+G) and Skin Configuration (Alt+C). Both are set up as display modes which you can switch between by using the Display Bar (the blue bar at the bottom of the display screen). You can use the Previous and Next Display Mode buttons or the Display Mode menu (on the left of the Display Bar) to switch between the 4 different modes (Player, Visualization, Equalizer and Configuration).

The vertical 3-button playback control idea came to me late one night when I thought of the direction playlists advance, which would be up and down, hence the previous button's placement above the play/pause button, and the next button below it. I'd say that makes this skin pretty unique since I have yet to see another skin incorporate the same idea.

That's all I can think of saying about the skin. It is still a work in progress, which is the reason behind it's Beta status, but I thought I'd give you, the public, a preview of what's to come. Hope you guys like what I've done so far. Enjoy. :D

Beta 2 will have an Equalizer, which didn't make it into Beta 1 because I couldn't think of what to make it look like and I had to stick to my release schedule, a more customized Video Window, script optimizations, and a few other things I have planned which I'll keep as a secret. :ninja:

And before anyone asks, Valkyrie will have color themes, but not until it hits Release Candidate status. ;)

Thanks for the comments on it so far. I really didn't expect this kind of feedback.

I am looking into ways of adding buttons for the Playlist, Media Library, Video windows. Probably put them on a drawer that will slide out from the bottom of the skin when the skin is in focus. ;)

This is a Beta, which means I don't have everything that the Final version will have included, put into the skin yet. I know this skin needs a shade mode which will be added for Beta 2. It will also have a shuffle mode, which those who have used Avalon are familiar with, as well as a more compact mode that closely resembles the default mode.

Again, thanks for all the comments everyone. :woot:

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.

    • This is of course "clickbait" WTF? It is literally your example but tech based. A "clickbait" title is a sensationalized headline designed to manipulate readers into clicking a link using things like "fear" rather than delivering objective facts. A "clickbait" headline also usually provides little value compared to the hype generated. How does this headline not qualify? It's a generic often reused headline that is overly sensationalized. Oh no! "millions" can't use this app anymore. It has no basic facts like what f*cking app. You read the article and it's the Samsung VPN which no one cares about and there is a million free VPNs. How are you defending this ######? Headlines like this (and among other things) make me read Neowin much less than I used to in the past. It's trash...
