I mean sure its bigger than Winamp Classic skins, but it is definetly smaller than the default Winamp Modern skin. :|

yup they want it even smaller than classic skins!

I don't, but there's a reason I don't use the default modern skin either. I'm running at 1280*1024 and it's just too much for me. Of course, that doesn't take away my appreciation for the craftsmenship put into it.

The chunky borders and big buttons make it *seem* big. But the big buttons are part of the design arn't they?

Hope that isn't offensive to your work in some way, you've done a good job. Just some advice :).

I guess the large control buttons do make it seem a bit big but I thought people were referring to the size of the player itself. Now I understand what was meant by the skin being 'big'. This was done on purpose. I was trying to make something that would look like it could actually exist in the real world (maybe even compete against the iPod). :p

Thanks for the feedback guys. I hope I can improve on my UI design a bit more for my next skin.

and look at just how much is placed on the classic and default modern skin.

So far this just has the basic C-buttons, a display, and shuf/rep modes.

where are the buttons for the playlist, eq, and media library? Hell, where is the stop button? What about the open button? The volume bar is dinky , and the next and prev buttons are just awkwardly placed. Verticle? Why? Are you trying to confuse everyone?

Is there a balance bar somewhere?

I only see two buttons on top. The options should be minimize, close, and winshade (stick mode). Is this going to have a winshade mode button (or will we double click)? Is there even going to be a winshade mode. How do you plan on keeping the winshade mode small while keeping the "oversized" look of the skin?

Are the borders for the playlist and EQ and ML going to be just as huge? (edit, looked at screenshot in first post, apparently so)

The reason it looks big is because

a) it is big

b) it has a lot of empty space.

I don't really see how this took "two years" to make

I already answered the question about the buttons for the playlist, eq and media library here. The pause button will turn into the stop button when the user leaves their mouse over it for ~3 seconds (Beta 2). I rarely to never use the open button which is the main reason why I havent added it in but I will look into adding it somewhere. If you re-read my first post, you'd know the reason behind the vertical next and prev buttons.

It will be included in the EQ for Beta 2.

Seriously, how many times must I say this. This skin will have a winshade mode, as well as a 'compact' mode and a 'shuffle' mode (see Avalon's Shuffle Mode).

Who exactly are you quoting when you say "two years"? I've never said I've been working on it for 2 years. What I did say is I've been working on this skin since December 2004. That's 7 months if you count July (which we're still in the first full week of). This skin has been through about 4-5 redesigns.

I can't stress it enough that this skin is a beta. Not all of the features/functionality that the skin will include have been implemented yet. Anything else?

bro who cares about some of the tards on here...who think they could do a better job with the amount of time you've spent on it :).

ah just one criticism, if i may say, is i get this wonderful lil error:

Any ideas why i get that? also, if i close and open it again, there is no error :s...its totally random.

but the design for the prev/next buttons, while unique, are still...awkward.

also, will the amount of time that the mouse has to hover in order for the button to be "stop" be customizable?

the issue isn't so much on whether or not the skin will have these mods, but it's how true to form these modes will be. Compacting the graphics you currently have into a smaller package will look (imho) either forced or like a different skin.

I must be thinking of a different skin. I admit I was wrong here.

The only thing that is "else" is that I have Avalon used it extensivly for a long while, which is why I was so disapointed by this skin. It feels more like someone's first skin with the large buttons and apparent lack of features.

I think the unique previous and next buttons work brilliantly. I like to have them peeking out from under the right edge of my browser window, where I can access them quickly and easily. It definitely seems logical to me, since those buttons move the selection up and down the playlist.

Also, The skin is only about 1.5 times larger than my usual Winamp Classic skins, and more than endurable. For a more compact mode, all that needs to be done is dropping the screen off to leave the buttons, albeit smaller. For winshade, I'd quite like to see a vertical 'stick'.

This skin looks great, and more importantly, has a similar design to a portable MP3 player. Simple and intuitive buttons, large and readable display, and a sleek look. Its more than usable in its current stage, and the additions of colour schemes and other modes are just a bonus.

  • 3 months later...

i would like to know if anyone could send me this skin. i reformatted a couple of weeks ago and since kgraphik's site has been down for awhile i cant download it.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
