Reasons to switch

Why not have BOTH, if you can afford it?

I can't afford it yet, but when I am rich I'll own both!

I think the debate is pointless. Apple Vs. Oranges.

Which fruit you like to eat?

Some may say Both, and some may say just apple. Some just orange.

It's all about preference... no one is clearly better!

Each has it's advantages, and disadvantages.

For Mac's advantage - Graphics, look cool.

For Win's advantage - More softwares, and hardwares. (And could do everything you could do on a MAC really)

That's why I personally favor Windows, because Mac's graphical advantage is less important to me than Windows software's avalibility, besides it could still be easily accomplished within Windows!

As for Linux, yes, that's even cheaper, it installs on a PC too! :D .... but the OS itself isn't as easy though!

it is out of date i'm afraid ;)

I do not care about MAC's ease of use, and faster speed, cuz with my Windows setup it's not that bad, for me Win Xp is just as easy to use and not really slow.

What I AM Curious though is the quality of the hardwares inside,

All Macs come with built-in sound, bootable CD-ROM, and SCSI (or USB) standard.
Now days PCs all come with those too, but the question I have is the quality of a audio/video card. Are the ones come with, better than Sound Blaster Audigy and Geforce *whatever is the best Geforce outthere* ???
All Macs are made by Apple, and conform to the same standards.

Isn't that Apple Monopoly? Nevermind :p

Did anyone else see The Registers report a while ago about a PIII 800 beat out a G4 1000Mhz (possibly even a dual processor, but can't remember) in floating point operation and other CPU functions?

So I wouldn't go entirely with the G4 can beat a P4, its very unlikely in all situations.

I use Mac and PC's at work, Mac's mainly for video editing and compositing. To be honest the Mac seems no quicker than the PC for those functions, but the software is better.

If you play a lot of games, yeah.

I have both OS X and Windows XP and all the software I use is available on the other.

The main ones are Photoshop, Office, Unreal tourny, Wolfy, Dreamweaver and flash.

Personally I prefer working in OS X and I seem to be more productive, the novelty of working in OS X has worn off so it's not that. The way I work has changed.

Give it a try and see what you like.

Well here's my view on Macs and PCs...

I have heard and seen that Macs are better for more of your graphical needs whereas a PC is better for ur everyday usage, etc.

I would probably be getting one if I had the money too because I want to try them out and see how they are at graphics. Until then I plan on keeping my PC for awhile.

My $.00000098

I play UT, Q3 and wolfenstein all maxed out settings and I get over 60fps in all three at 1024. I consider that enough although perhaps the "hardcore" don't.

I'm using a G4 iMac, 700 with 512mb memory.

But I must say, if you really are a proper gamer and not just an occasional one, PC's are best for gaming. I mean, doom III isn't going to run well on my iMac at all.

Huh? You do realise stuff like Wolfy and Quake 3 are usually released at the same time or before the PC equivelants don't you?

Quake 3 was demoed on a mac and the demo was also released for Mac first.

    • Apart from Early Hiccups on Windows 11 on first install on October 6th 2021 on my old Intel 10700 daily use Desktop PC at the time, used to have issue with Bluetooth suddenly no longer working and only fix back then was always another clean install--then would work for a while. Transition to 2024 when i decided to finally upgrade that system for better support for Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield 6 later on, opted for next daily use Gaming Desktop AMD Ryzen 7 7700X and Radeon 7800XT OC 16GB. No major problems at all with this desktop, OS was clean installed way back on 10/8/2025 not long after 25H2 released. Overall i've been happy with Windows 11 Pro from the start, even minor little quirks didn't sway me. Heck i even use Windows 8 and upgraded immediately upon release back then on my old HP P6-2133W Desktop, and while the specs of that machine didn't give me top notch performance--i still was able to do what i wanted to, without too many slowdowns. Windows ME i didn't use on any of my personal systems back in the day, kept those systems on 98SE til XP released, and grabbed that immediately on release date. Kept XP til Vista Released then upgraded immediately, kept Vista til Windows 7 released, then updated immediately again
    • Broadcom: dreadful company who is destroying VMware by pricing it out of the market.
    • To be fair, it wasn't going anywhere. Even when Windows Phone could run Android APKs, Google didn't want any of it so it'd never work and the same thing happened with Windows. It was never about the store or it's users, it was always the developers and who they aligned to.
    • Wake me up when this comes to PC. Until then... zzzzzzzz....
