I love Trivium, but I feel the same way about The Crusade, it will probably fail. I hate the fact that Matt Heafy doesn't scream live now, or at least at Download he didn't.

I agree that the screaming is a much needed thing in Trivium to be honest. Or at least with the old songs. They don't sound right sung normally when they were originally screaming.

Do you know what Trivium played at Download by any chance?

I know they played Rain, Suffocating Sight, Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr, Likie Light To Flies, and Detonation (New Song). Other than that I don't know, if you go over to http://www.triviumworld.com, you can see the video of songs I know they played and they may have even added more. And let me correct myself from earlier, when I said Download, I meant Rock am Ring.

The new Bewteen the buried and me album is out tomorrow in europe The anatomy of i'm getting me a preview, I forgot about this album but they have recorded it quite quickly.

Also went out and bought As I lay dying - A long march CD, so I can complete all the CD's I own of them. Great band.

As I lay dying, are the kings of metalcore, not my favorite genre of metal but they do rock.

To be honest i don't mind them. They are the better metalcore bands out there.

I know alot of people bash metalcore but thats the emo kinds  and gay screamo.

Not the biggest fan of metalcore but i don't mind bands like Chimaira, As I Lay Dying, Unearth, God Forbid.

The album is brilliant, not as good as some stuff i've been listening to recently like, Job for a cowboy or grave also the new Deadsoil album is good as well.

Heard the new Trivium song, it's rubbish, I really think The crusade will flop to be honest don't know if anyone can agree with me, but their 30 minutes of fame will fall really quickly if this album doesn't sell as much as acendancy did, and it won't I know it won't. I think they we're pushed too hard for their third release.

New lamb of god album Sacrament should be good stuff it's been two years. But what i'm really looking forward to is the new as yet untitled haunted album coming october/december time.

Haven't heard the newest Grave yet but their last one was good. Soulless is an absolute must from them though.

I'm digging The Sword quite a bit right now. They really cover a lot of territory on their latest. There's some Grind, Doom, Stoner, & Thrash moments in all the songs they're quite excellent.

Also for a Power/Prog/Thrash vibe the latest Eidolon Paralell Otherworld is a must. Glenn Drover is amazing as already proved with Megadeth & King Diamond. His brother is also a great drummer and equally shines on this new one.

I know this probably isnt the right place. But tell me what you think of this metal band:

http://myspace.com/morterra

there myspace page says there meta/death metal/ and thrash

Ahaaaa Nice!

They look cool, sound cool, and one dude is wearing a bodom top! (Y)

Not really into much metal, only the odd band here and there, but I gotta agree with that.

Saw em in cardiff in march, and they were awesome - but watching that vid of them at download  - they just sound like a totally different band - not something I like.

While I'm here - I may aswell ask

anyone got any reccomendations for any metal bands to listen to for a newbie to metal? lol.

And I'm coming from stuff like the used now  - please don't flame me

(the only bands you can call metal in my playlist atm are pantera, trivium and killswitch engage lol.)

thanks

I disagree. I think that title goes to The Autumn Offering (If you were to consider them metalcore as a lot of people do). Personally I'd prefer Trivium with clean vocals. I like clean or like death (as in the band) not a mix of both/hardcore. Also melo-death such as Arch Enemy, In Flames, Soilwork, Amon Amarth are fine and Children of Bodom too. It just sounds like a rip off when it's like hardcore or whatever. You either gotta go full throttle or none. I do prefer clean the most though. Thrash will always be number one for me.

@ WelshBluebird

Pantera is definately metal. Bands devstorm didnt mention

Children of Bodom

Hammerfall

Forbidden

Hypocrisy

Kataklysm

Kreator

Motorhead and many more

@ devstorm

you forgot

Metallica - And justice for all

C.O.C - America's volume dealer

C.O.C - America's volume dealer

Well actually I didn't - "Forget" them. Justice for me at least was a big letdown. And since I was suggesting Hardcore/Metal crossover - I don't think C.O.C.'s America's Volume Dealer would qualify as that. Plus I haven't heard much off that one so I can't say how good it is overall. What I heard didn't hit me right away.

I was more or less including a very generalized overview of bands & albums. As a starting point for someone new to the genre. Although not mentioning Motorhead I should be forced to turn in my Denim, Leather & Warts.

So let me do include:

Motorhead - Bomber, Ace Of Spades, No Sleep Til Hammersmith, & Orgasmatron as great "Examples" of what this band deliver on quite a few more albums that should be owned & studied like fine literature.

Anyway I think others should chime in & make suggestions cause I am in no way a metal expert, just a lifelong afficianado.

Ah man. Got a load of new stuff. Behemoth and Agalloch are ... wow.

Can anyone recomend any good festivals in europe over august, I was considering gates of metal but don't know much of the line up last time i checked and me and a mate pretty much up for anywhere, though costs an issue.

I disagree. I think that title goes to The Autumn Offering (If you were to consider them metalcore as a lot of people do).

You raise a good point there, but The Autumn Offering are not as experienced, and haven't toured as much or sold as many records compared to As I lay Dying.

As I Lay Dying are better anyway, The Autumn Offering are good but not as.

Yeah have to agree there. As I Lay Dying is the better out of too bands but The Autumn Offering still kicks out a good sound just i only like about 2-3songs from their albums as to As I Lay Dying i like 80% of the songs.

I'll have to check out The Autumn Offering. I can't stand As I Lay Dying, I think the vocalist is the absolute worst I've heard. As for C.O.C.'s American Volume Dealer, it was a pretty good album, but not as good as Wiseblood or Deliverance. C.O.C. is very good southern metal.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
