What is Windows written in

umm....am I stupid or isn't windows written in DOS?

DOS is a program. not a language. but yes windows up till 2000 i believe was c then alot of c++ was added in later i do believe

DOS isn't a language, it's an old operating system that 3.1 and the 9x series were based on. The NT series is completely separate to that, although they share an API.

From what I remember NT is mainly C++.

Hasn't C# slipped in recently ;)

PS. My friend still can't believe that some parts are written in C. Can someone link somewhere to the MS sites?

There are some windows apps that will be written in C#, but as for core OS functionality they generally want to stick to C++. Until Avalon and Indigo is fully baked, you won't see a lot of C# core OS stuff. Also gotta remember the dev's know C and C++, and don't always like the overhead of the framework.
