I would like to sign up to download Vista Beta 1 to beta test it but I dont know where or how to get a Subscription ID as seen here

i think MSDN subscriptions are in the price range of $1400 american, dollars. So, if that fail you lose al that money, otherwise just wait, something will come around.

With a signature like that, you should be totally denied access to anything related to Vista... seriously... there is so much more underground coding that has gone on it is amazing. They have totally reworked the OS and have spent years doing it. I think it can only get better from here and I await the "perfect" OS which will be Vista.

A bunch of posts have been removed from this thread related to leaks and such, Neowin doesn't want to know about illegal dumps or places where you can get it illegally.

After having read all 43 pages of this thread I think it very much appropriate that I remind our very fortunate brethren and sisteren who get to download and install vista beta1 today not to forget about their less fortunate comrades (sound communist? :)) Well, afterall we're all by virtue of our membership in Neowin, communists - of the Neowinian Order. So please, share, share, share!!! Help your comrades, Neowin is a "Community" - meaning we support each other for the benefit of the whole community. This is not the time to be greedy, need I remind you that the NDA has been lifted as of 7/27/05? I'm throwing a challenge at you - the fortunate amongst us, surprise us - pleasantly. Anyone who agrees should say, AMEN!

Basically, its available to MSDN subscribers and us beta testers are gettin the crap end of the stick :angry:

Summary

- Vista Beta 1 is out, currently only to those people who have MSDN access

- Screenshots of the final Beta build are still few and far between as people download the Win32 (~2.5 GB) and x64 (~1.7 GB) ISO dvd images from Microsoft. Most like Paul Thurott's are from pre-beta 1 or the 5203 screenshot leak. Microsoft posted a few on their presspass site

- Several Microsoft sites have gone live including:

- A video talking about the beta has been posted on Channel9

      After watching the Apple event earlier this week it is quite the contrast. Apple is going back and tweaking the code to make things more efficient in may areas of MacOS. Windows is boosting your electric build to hide their issues.

      It is silly there is no simple way to check whether this profile has been activated. CFRs are normal, but trying to even hide the fact if it's on / off seems silly, especially for something so user-facing. Surely Microsoft is "proud" of their engineering efforts on this one and ought to display it somwhere in the GUI.

      Many Linux distros are not known for excellent battery life, so I'm not sure that is the best example. A more apt example may be Apple, but Apple's CPUs are simply far more efficient than Intel & AMD at single-threaded tasks like these, so "boosting" is not as power-hungry and less heat-inducing. Not to mention Apple will hardly engage P-cores for basic UI tasks; they use a pretty complicated QoS scheme to only activate P-cores for more serious workloads like HTML / JS execution or decompression or application launch. Microsoft is (smartly) doing it for launch, but also for UI tasks, which is the more nonsensical part: why ... do Windows 11's UIs need modern CPUs to boost? It should load so quickly that there's not even time for the CPU to boost.

      I've not seen any controlled testing and, judging by Microsoft's mentality, within a year, they'll have added so much more bloat, it'll undo any perceptible latency benefit and we'll have boosted the CPU clocks for nothing.

      It depends: heat soak is a thing. Initially on cold boot-up, the heatsinks & heatpipes are at ambient temp. After heatsinks & heatpipes warm up (through normal usage), they don't immediately cool to ambient temp when the load goes away. So their baseline is higher and the trigger point for fans is much less stress. Add a few more CPU spikes → it's too hot to stay at the same fan RPM → fans get triggered to start up up much sooner / get triggered to ramp much more quickly.
