For those who've just been "activated" on Vista this afternoon, have you been granted access to the newsgroups yet? It's been a couple hours here and still nothing (well, just the Mail Beta groups which I already had).

To previous questions: Yes, Beta 2 will be available for anyone who wants to download it. The bad news is that it's not likely to make it out until January or so.

This has nothing to do with stealing your sisters junk...

and you should have behaved better, maybe you woulda got one...

Exactly! Microsoft gives the best betas away to its best beta testers, who behave well and report bugs and give feedback.

(Note, I am not a tester of vista)

ok so its copyrighted... but so is music and *we* still download it...

*I* don't...

I dont see why so many people are so anti-downloading.... just jealous that they weren't able to participate in the beta I guess...

Yeah, that's it. Except, I'm actually in the beta, and downloading it right now from Microsoft. I think it's actually the other way around. You guys are all jealous that you didn't get in the beta, so you need to go and warez it.

My sister once got a gift from my mother because she was good. I never got one, so i took it from her.

You are telling my this is not stealing.

OMg you mean ******.. thats stealing.. because then she is without the gift.. if download a free program iam not taken it form anyone.

if anyone has IE7 pm me :shifty:

And if you weren't in the beta you would be just like the rest of us ;)

Ok, but you can't compare you BEHAVING good, to getting picked for the beta. M$ picked people who tested other stuff before, if your a new guy, theirs no luck because he/she has no experiance... So they have to *steal* it, if they wanna test it. I get what your trying to say tho....

But other than copyrights, and the fact that this isnt a public beta, I don't see a problem with someone trying to test it without being in the beta. But don't take my word, thats just my opinion...

On the Connect site, where do we report bugs against IE7 on WinXP? I can't spot a feedback, submit bug or similar link on the connect site, but the beta instructions say to use the Connect site to submit bugs... am I missing something obvious or is the bug-reporting mechanism not yet in place on Connect for this program?

Maybe there's a way to send in bug reports from Vista?

In this case it would mean your mom has an infinite number of said free gift and stealing it from your mom wouldnt actually be hurting her at all.

I think they're still configuring the site, since that area is clearly present in another beta I'm on in the same site. Plus, I've seen a couple links that don't work yet, so give them a little more time to get things going.

You are breaking the law. What part of this don't you get?

ummm, what makes this any different from someone going on limewire or any other p2p and downloading a mp3, i posted that in my other post... I KNOW its "against the law", i stated it as my OWN OPINION, I see someone who dosen't know how to read.

    • It is silly there is no simple way to check whether this profile has been activated. CFRs are normal, but trying to even hide the fact if it's on / off seems silly, especially for something so user-facing. Surely Microsoft is "proud" of their engineering efforts on this one and ought to display it somwhere in the GUI.
    • Many Linux distros are not known for excellent battery life, so I'm not sure that is the best example. A more apt example may be Apple, but Apple's CPUs are simply far more efficient than Intel & AMD at single-threaded tasks like these, so "boosting" is not as power-hungry and less heat-inducing. Not to mention Apple will hardly engage P-cores for basic UI tasks; they use a pretty complicated QoS scheme to only activate P-cores for more serious workloads like HTML / JS execution or decompression or application launch. Microsoft is (smartly) doing it for launch, but also for UI tasks, which is the more nonsensical part: why ... do Windows 11's UIs need modern CPUs to boost? It should load so quickly that there's not even time for the CPU to boost.
    • I've not seen any controlled testing and, judging by Microsoft's mentality, within a year, they'll have added so much more bloat, it'll undo any perceptible latency benefit and we'll have boosted the CPU clocks for nothing.
    • It depends: heat soak is a thing. Initially on cold boot-up, the heatsinks & heatpipes are at ambient temp. After heatsinks & heatpipes warm up (through normal usage), they don't immediately cool to ambient temp when the load goes away. So their baseline is higher and the trigger point for fans is much less stress. Add a few more CPU spikes → it's too hot to stay at the same fan RPM → fans get triggered to start up up much sooner / get triggered to ramp much more quickly.
    • Can LibreOffice just shut up and worry about themselves and stop comparing themselves? Do we see Microsoft complaining about euro office?
