Wow, mine is ultra smooth too and I-m loving it. Not a single crash yet and the glass efect is working.

Running on:

Pentium M Dothan 1.7GHz

Radeon Mobility 9600 Proturbo 128MB

512MB PC2700

Every piece of hardware was detected, well not my modem but I dont care because I never use it lol.

I just found one glitch and I dont know why I cant remove this, it-s floating in front of every window I open

I believe that pop-up is related to keyboard-layouts and associated languages. I have the very same anomaly happen in KDE.

Can Anyone Tell, What Is The Minimum Requirments Of Windows Vista ??

586286709[/snapback]

There is no minimum at the present time (officially). There is a guess somewhere (not in the release notes like I thought) but it says that any midrange processor by todays standards should be enough. Any midrange video card, midrange this or that should be enough. I can tell you that a Pentium III 1 GHz with 512 MB Ram (100mhz FSB) and a 32MB ATI M4 Mobillity card can barely handle the graphics nature. This is not an extensive test though, as I have not gone through to tweak things. Also, remember, this is Beta 1. This is for technical fixes, not user experience fixes. Wait for Beta 2 before you accept any minimum requirements that you see or hear.

Will i really get benefit testing 64bit version instead of 32bit ? (running athlon64 3500+)

For Beta 1? I seriously doubt it. The reason is because of the drivers. Every driver you have on a 32 bit system is totally worthless in a 64 bit system. The 64 bit only supports 32 bit programs (emulated at that). You need to have entirely new drivers on a disk ready to go before you even think about it. You processor and mobo should be ready to go but, what about your video card? Your sound card? Your wireless devices (wireless devices by the way are so far behind with 64 bit drivers I could scream). Check out PlanetAMD for drivers and 64 bit help. They seem to have some interesting people trying to help out if you really have to try it.

How could I get Vista ? It's too fabulous to get this for general user like me ? Just Beta !!!

The only way is to be on the Beta team. You can go to beta.microsoft.com and put BetaReq as your guest ID and hope for the best. Anything else is illegal. I know there is a lot of hype for this Beta but I promise you, you'll be much happier with Beta 2. Beta 1 is not for general users. You wont know the difference for the most part (aside from the GUI and virtual folders). Seriously, for those of you that are not developers or IT guys managing networks and dozens of servers you arent missing much.

Are you a beta tester? Are you using it? Because I downloaded my beta last night and installed it this morning before work (yes i got up early) and I was quite impressed with the improvements even for a first beta. Beta 2 will obviously be another step ahead for the OS, but it's a pretty big step from xp already

Vista broke up my xp install. Not that i'm particularly attached to it, but if I could avoid a reinstall of it, i'd be happy =)

Vista works, but when on boot, when i select my xp install to boot with, there's only a black screen with a cursor blinking...

Any ideas?

Probably the best way to fix your XP would be to boot from the win xp cd and launch the install. When it asks you if you would like to repair a previous install say NO. Later on in the rpocess it will tell you that it has detected a priro install of win xp and will ask if you would like to attempt a repair. Let it do so. This should solve your problem though you may have to reinstall your drivers in XP. Hope this helps.

Yes I am. I did the same as you this morning. I am not saying there is no improvement but, I dont think the average person at this point will be impressed by it with relation to the hype. My thoughts as follows: The initial setup was great in that the setup process required such little input on my behalf. I did not like that little green bar after the first reboot as it did not show progress, it just kept running. Also, the install took about an hour and a half for me. (I know they plan on cutting this down severely for Beta 2) The start up time was faster for me then it was on XP after the setup had finished. The effects with the GUI (the start button lighting up, the window effect) thats all fine and is easily noticable. I like it actually. But, some items are still broken and non functional (realistically) yet. I love the OS and I cannot wait for the next version which has the improved start up times and a few more options here and there. I also liked the new Shut Down button/manager. Although, I might need to find a way to disable that 30 second count-down...or at least drop it down to 10 seconds. (I clicked it already dangit!) But like I said, I dont think Beta 1 is up to hype yet. Maybe I will change my mind later today when I get back on it but for now I still dont think the average person will be too impressed aside from the "shiny object" syndrome. Beta 2 is where I expect the really cool effects and features to be finalized out. (Although I am sure there will be builds given to us in the future to get us closer to the Beta 2. But this is just me. I promise though, If I am wrong and I change my mind, I will say that I was worng.

Simply mount the image on a Virtual DVD drive with Alcohol 120% and launch the install under XP. Worked great for me

Can this method be used to install the beta on a different partition than the one XP is on and give me a choice to boot into Vista or XP when starting the computer?

    • Microsoft AI boss no longer believes that AI will replace human workers by David Uzondu Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, recently took back his statements concerning white-collar jobs that he gave to the Financial Times in an interview made back in February, where he claimed that AI would replace office workers within 12 to 18 months. On Monday's episode of The Verge's Decoder, Suleyman recast the technology as more like a helpmate than a tool designed to take over your job. He explained that smaller office duties will "increasingly become digitized, automated" as people generate more digital materials. During the discussion, Suleyman emphasized a "very important distinction" between "tasks" and "jobs" to clarify his previous claims. He argued that his earlier comments only referred to individual actions that people perform at their desks. Suleyman used to work for DeepMind, the research lab he co-founded in 2010 alongside Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, before he left in 2022 to establish Inflection AI and build an empathetic digital assistant. Microsoft hired him in March 2024 to lead its newly formed "Microsoft AI" division, placing him in charge of consumer products like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. His February comments also detailed plans for Microsoft to achieve self-sufficiency with a $140 billion infrastructure budget to train frontier models, predicting that creating a customized AI will soon feel like creating a podcast or a new blog: The 41-year-old is not the only AI executive who's softened his "AI will replace you" stance. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, last month used X to push back against employment panic by arguing that his startup builds tools to assist humans rather than build replacements. He had previously garnered backlash by suggesting that many modern office roles that AI might replace did not qualify as "real work" in the first place, at least when you compare desk jobs to physical, historical labor like farming.

    • Meta will now use data from outside businesses to personalize AI responses by David Uzondu In an update that's rolling out globally (except in a handful of countries), Meta will use your data from outside businesses to personalize your AI responses and your primary feeds. Meta already utilizes your shopping activity to target ads, but the company now plans to expand this tracking to personalize other "parts of your experience" like feed algorithms and AI assistant chats. The company is replacing the two settings ("Your activity off Meta technologies" and "Activity from other businesses") that currently let you disconnect off-platform activity with a single, renamed setting called Activity from other businesses. If you don't want Meta to manipulate your feed and AI responses using your outside history, you can just turn the Activity from other businesses setting off in your account settings. This toggle resides within your Accounts Center, applying your choice to every connected profile. Turning this off will not stop companies from sending your data to Meta. The company will still collect your web interactions, but it only uses them to train products, while still accessing external accounts you connect. When The Verge spoke to Meta spokesperson Emil Vazquez, the representative said that this update will exclude several locations at launch, including the European region, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya. The new update comes at a time when the social media giant is recovering from a major PR disaster involving generative AI. Last week, there was a huge security issue on Instagram where attackers figured out a way to trick Meta AI into handing over account ownership (even if the victim had 2FA enabled). Some of the affected accounts include the dormant Obama White House profile, cosmetics brand Sephora, the Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force, and security researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Internally, the company also had to scale back plans on its Model Capability Initiative (MCI), an employee-monitoring program designed to train corporate AI models by recording worker keystrokes and screen activity, after employees raised privacy concerns and complained about severe battery life drain.
