k, i checked it out.. this is what i dont like..

1. the start button pressed state is WAAAAAYYY too bright \ much.

2.the sliders are all a pixel right of center and look weird.

3. The caption pressed state idea seems to have been derived from the Alienware WB theme. just my opinion but very similar. Same caption glyphs look all saushed on pressed state and i think they also are too bright \ much.

4. The all programs menu \ mousover image is weak compared with rest of theme, maybe try to spruce it up some, its too plain.

5. the shell is sort a weak too, no images for special folders. ( took the easy way out :p )

6. the User panel area \ font is HUUUUUGE. WAY too much wasted real estate !

What i do like..

1. Love the blue

2.

???

i've done that before having block and solid for LE3 when i modded the values...it wasnt till i copied em3's advise on his solid progress bars that i removed the block/solid progress bars, it's all in the values. i think u just set block style in the main root 'progress' and set it to solid when adjusting the vertical and horizontal bar values...

Nope, value modifying in StyleBuilder :)

I PMed you

1. The startbuttons are fixed. :)

2. They are in the center. I checked. Did you?

3. I don't use WB so I woudn't know.

4. All menu selections look almost the same.

5. I don't know why the images didn't show. I didn't remove them on purpose.

6. I like it.

wow, after the beta this is really taking off. I like how em3 take all these critisisms well, good job man, glad you dont take it personal or anything. And with all these talented people here Im sure we can work out substyles that everyone can love and em3 wont have to do it all. This style seems to be taking on alife of its own, and I think its great! Keep up the good work em3 and everyone else who is contributing, now lets see those compact styles!

yeah 99% of the theme makers usually are solid in the "take it or leave it" rule, em3 doesn't even brush with the idea let alone embrace it...i love em3, he is the phoshizzle my nizzle theme creator. not one rant yet! :D i'm lovin' it -mc donalds

lol

i dont love em3 lol

but he and luna element rules :)

Compact styles are done. This is what's left:

* Bigger captionbuttons (adding 2px)

* The hover on the tray arrow like Dazzla suggested

* Different click state on the sliders and trackbars (maybe)

* Scrollbars and spinners for black

* Improve flashing tasks

* New toolbar hover/click/selected images. (maybe)

After this is finished, you should consider doing a WindowBlind skin complete with all the LE styles up to this point. Your prolly capable of alot more than what the limited msstyles engine can let you show.

Any chance of the color change in the start menu I suggested a few pages back?

I would make WB skins but it isn't completly free. Scrollbars don't get skinned.

No color change. I like the white. It looks good imo. :)

So, you should be done in an hour or two! :D

Great job!!!

Well, I came up with an alternative. Let's see what you and other people think. I like it.

I modified some values, and now the progress bar goes solid in programs where it's needed (like BitTorrent ^_^), and it goes blockstyle in some random ones (IE stays blockstyle, but in Firefox it's solid, so I don't know what's the rule). What matters is that it gets beautiful every way, and then the bug is gone. What do you people think?

Excellent! Now there will be less moaning about the progress bar.

True - that's for the free version. Maybe you can contact Skinstudio (the author of Skinstudio) to port it, like how he has done for LE2. Or we could fire up the Skinstudio program itself and do the port ourselves.

WB is so much worse! It keeps programs in the background, it has to load with Windows, it's not automatic like a "normal" theme. I don't and I don't think I'll ever recommend the use of it.

586450824[/snapback]

Although now I use VSes instead of WB (well, I was a WB user for about a year) I'll counter those arguments:

- load with Windows: yeah. Well the Themes service loads with Windows too. :pinch: The only downside is that WB loads 'fload.dll' to quickly load the skin into RAM (or something like that) on login. This slows down the login process by 3 - 5 seconds. Despite that, its behaviour is identical to the Themes service: it hooks DLLs to programs in order to skin them. And in the latest 4.6, I didn't notice any lag when opening programs and navigating in Explorer (not true for earlier versions).

One advantage of VS is that since it's integrated into Windows, it's able to do stuff like theme everything in the CTRL+ALT+DEL dialog, the 'classic' logon dialog, etc. But WB has been updated and supports other stuff - menu backgrounds (and menu items), transparent Start Menus, logon/logoff dialog skinning, and so on.

Another problem with WB: you can't change colours in Windows (for instance, window backgrounds, dialog backgrounds, classic titlebars) without using SKS.

It's your pick. As for this VS, as mentioned before it's quite simple to port this to WB format using Skinstudio - although it's not 100% perfect, and it might have a few bugs.

    • Still 3x what it should cost. So, it seems the trick is to increase price by 6x so that a reduction in price back to 4x looks like a steal. "You savvy shoppers win again!" I'm glad I'm not in a desperate spot to actually even need this overpriced crap. Hopefully, it comes back down by the time for when (or if) I ever do.

    • Microsoft wants to end printer driver headaches with Windows Ready Print by Usama Jawad A few days ago, Microsoft released Windows 11 Experimental build 26300.8553, bringing a ton of enhancements such as Start menu customization, search improvements, Taskbar polish, and other minor UI tweaks. Another relatively major enhancement snuck deep within the change log was related to upgrades to the Windows printing experience. Now, Microsoft has shared more details about these benefits. For starters, Microsoft has renamed its Modern Print Platform to Windows Ready Print. The company believes that this name highlights its shift in strategy, which now focuses on modernizing, securing, and streamlining the printing experience for Windows devices. Some of the upgrades present in Windows Ready Print have already been seeded to customers and partners. This includes ending support for third-party printer drivers via Windows Update and transitioning towards the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and the native Windows IPP printer driver. In line with these changes, new printer installations will default to Windows Ready Print on eligible devices starting from July 2026. However, Microsoft recognizes that not all environments will be able to migrate to this platform immediately, so it will allow users to choose between installing the printer via Windows Ready Print or the traditional OEM process. Users will be able to toggle this configuration through Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > Printer preferences. This control applies only to new printer installations, and its functionality can also be modified via Group Policy as follows: Launch Group Policy Editor Navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Administrative Templates -> Printers Find and select 'Configure Windows Ready Print driver ranking' -> double click to open it Select 'Enabled' (if you wish to enable Windows Ready Print driver selection) or 'Disabled' (if you wish to explicitly disable Windows Ready Print driver selection). Select Apply Select OK Similarly, if you set up Windows protected print mode through the same setting in Windows 11, it will also default to using Windows Ready Print exclusively. Microsoft hopes that these improvements will help eradicate dependency on OEM-specific driver installation processes and simplify printer installations. We'll likely find out more about other tangible benefits in the coming months.
