Do you tip pizza delivery people?

Recommended Posts

I always, always over tip. Pizza, restaurants, bartenders. It's never less the 40% I worked in the pizza business for over 5 years so I understand. I order an $8 chinese dinner combo for delivery and give the driver $15 and tell him to keep the change. Most of the time the tip is part of their pay. Like waiters and waitresses.

Remember they're handling your food... ;)

I've got 2 things to add to this thread, sort of off topic but restaurants have been mention here several times:

One is for the people in foreign countries that say they don't tip - you say it's your culture not to tip, but you don't mention that waiters in other countries usually get paid a full wage (not a $2 an hour wage) and the tip is extra, usually for good service. Here in the US the waiters by law are only required to be paid $2.13 an hour, and after taxes, it usually comes out to less than $1 an hour. EVERYTHING ELSE they make with tips. If you dont' leave a tip, of course it ****es them off... It's how they make a living.

The second thing is directed to those cheapskates here - the average tip should be 15%, for bad service it's understandable to get 10% and for good service, well, in my opinion there's no limit. I'm working my way through college as a waiter and nothing ****es me off (or the other servers in the restaurant) than someone that leaves no tip, a ****ty tip or even 10% for good service. Those people are remembered, and service won't be good the next time around. No, we don't **** with your food... I have never seen anything unpleasant done to food that's being prepared. I figure in fast food joints and such these things can happen because everything's behind the scenes.

One more thing - for those of you that want conversation from the waiter, dine with someone else and make conversation with them. I'm your waiter, not your buddy; I don't know you and I don't care to know you. You'll be greeted, approached with a good attitude and you will get your food and refills in a timely manner, along with anything else that you require. It's a business, and it's not my business to be your friend.

most of the time NEVER!!!!

sometimes I say don't worry about the change when it is like 5-10 cents

Am I a tight ass, NO!

It is Australian culture thing. We dont tend to tip for things like pizza. If you go to a restaurant, then you might tip if the service is really good.

I'm Australian and half my customers usually tip me well, are you sure this is Australian culture your talking about here?

If I was told to keep the 10c change I'd insist giving it back to them, while it takes time to run back to my car and grab the change I'd rather waste their time for being stingey. I'd rather have a friendly customer who doesn't tip at all than someone who tips me 10 cents and thinks they're generous.

I just read through all 14 pages of this thread and coincidentally this last reply was by far the most intelligent. This person is spot on everything he/she said.

Also, I was a little upset by the people who said they'll "tip 10% for good service, but if it's a hot chick 20%" or something along those lines. There's nothing I love more than busting my ass for someone so they can leave me a half-hearted tip because I don't have a pair of ######.

PS - As far as pizza delivery goes, for an order between 13-20 dollars I'll tip 3-5 bucks.

at my store, about two weeks ago, we had someone call in to order 150 pizzas with about a two hour notice.  This was about 1pm right after lunch so it was myself and one delivery driver.  they wanted their pizzas by three o'clock, so I told them that I'd try my best to have everything there by three but next time they should give more of a notice when they want an order this large.  Both of us broke our asses making that damned order, and we got the driver out the door at about 2:50.  They called a few minutes later demanding to know where their order was, I told them that it was only 2:55pm and he would be there before 3pm.  They bitched and moaned at me for another minute then got off.  about 15 minutes later the driver showed back up at the store ****ed.  It was a $1200 order, with a ton of discounts that I gave them and they didn't tip him a dime.  Needless to say when they ordered again a few days ago, they didn't get very "clean" pizzas.

wow man, you seriously might wanna get checked out then for what we put in those pizzas, one guy has been ****ing blood for awhile and he put some....nevermind.

no seriously, you dont want to know what I did with some of those pepperoni slices.

I don't tip because I havn't got enough money for myself, let alone enough to just give away to someone for doing their job... people who say they tip for quick delivery, warm food etc, well isn't that what you are paying the menu price for? The menu doesn't say cold pizza = ?9.99, tip if you want it hot!

It works like this: delivery guys deliver pizza on time, the correct order with no spit or other disgusting extras. The customer is then happy, so they will likely buy from that place again, so the pizza place continues to make money, so the delivery guy keeps his job!

This whole thing about getting an inferior service, or the risk of someone messing with your food unless you tip is just unbelieveable... also, places where the staff expect and practically demand tips just makes me mad. If they want more money than whats on the bill, then they should just put the ****ing prices up so everyone knows where they stand!

reminds me of a commerical years back. What to know where thoses little brown sasuages balls come from........they show a bunny......bunny poo :pinch:

People in Australia don't really 'tip' they say, 'keep the change'. It's not like we intentionally pay extra, it's just that we can't be bothered waiting for the pizza guy to come up with the change, and it's nice to give a little extra. My family is Asian, and most of the time at restaurants, my parents will pay like a 92 dollar order exactly. I find this somewhat embarrassing, and so I usually make an effort to round it up to the nearest five if I'm ordering a pizza (the only time I'm in control of paying for the meal). As some people have said, tipping isn't really integrated in Australia, and people won't chase you up for a tip (I'd find that a bit extreme). I suppose in America it's different.

i have never tipped pizza dudes and never will.

you know that they basicly live off the tips, the pizza place is only playing like $2 an hour they make most of the money off the tips

    • did you realize this mean that every american can be tracked, and put in prison if they don't use these tools the way the governement want. (I hope you realize the real objective of all of this) I let you imagine why Putin as so much power... now I let you realize the direction the US is going (and its not the only country unfortunately) so, yeah, let's go, let americans to be monitored by their government. the others will be safe: they will not have access and will not be tracked.

    • The thing you look at when buying a computer or laptop is not the CPU/RAM/SSD. You are looking at what features are on the system. USB 2/3/4/c, GPU, (not for the gaming aspect, but if you want nice movies, this helps) and other helpful add-ons. Keyboard media keys, for example. Also long battery life is a plus, too. Might want to also mention what brands you are looking at. Dell, Lenovo, Frameworks, etc. Edit: Unless you are looking for a laptop for portability, get a desktop.
