I dont understand why I cant open some icons I get a Seek error with IconWorkshop and crash with Microangelo.

It's seems the problem occurs with the new design icons only.

Is there a reason why MS never updates all of their icons?  I mean at least update some of the ancient ones.  These new ones are decent but I just don't feel like it's enough for such a huge release like Vista.

EDIT: Thanks for the upload though.

I have no idea why they don't...but it annoys me greatly to every now and then while using XP to see a Win9x (or even older!) icon show up (I like consistancy :p )...but from what I'm hearing from other people MS is planning to update all the icons in Vista including the legacy ones..whether MS follow through with this is another story..let's hope they do

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to compliment my work :)

Timoteo,

To do it manually with windows,

Just right click on the file/folder, then select Customize Tab (Icon tab if its a file I believe) , then Change Icon, and browse to where you saved it. Note: Some files/folders cannot be changed. For example, you cannot change your Windows Filefolder icon.

If you have IconPackager (Not free sadly) you can download the IconPackager Packages and install them that way. This method is easier as it applies the icons to everything it can at once, but then again this software is not free sadly :(

Whichever path, good luck!

Hey jerry,

I noticed this, too. I figure its an icon issue as the shortcut icon itself should be the size of the icon its overlaying, but the actual icon graphic should be tree times smaller in the bottom right, I think its how it was re-packaged. Maybe it is meant to be like this, too. Im not sure. It does not make much sense though if that is the case.

Timoteo: That is odd, Im not sure whats up. Maybe you are trying to customize pre-creatd system folders such as the My Pictures?

Any user-created folder should have it?

Same with files, but replace the 'customize' tab w/ 'icon' tab. Also, files are ususally more easier on icon-switches. :)

ermm... guys?

I posted the PNGs (256x256) of the imageres icons back in AeroXP. Also turned them into 128x128 icons and made an IPtheme out of them (and it looks great).

These icons are pretty darn small, so i'd much rather go with mine :)

For those curious, the longhorn icons are only icons up to 48x48, after which they are a scaled down PNG. That's all heaped into one file, and so most apps trying to read the file can't.

Some of them aren't standard icons so thats why you are getting an error.

I really don't how to edit them so I can extract the high res icon to png...
