I decided to pick Hogwarts Legacy back up and finish it.  Spent last night knocking out some Steam achievements but I'm basically done with everything I'm going to do with it.  I may run around a little and grind my way to level 40 so I can get that achievement but that's it.

Note: This screenshot may "say" 1080p, but it's actually 720p because I was playing on my docked Steam Deck.

Juggling between Metroid Prime 4, Terminator 2D: No Fate and Routine

All great games. I'm too much of a pansy to play Routine for very long though. 🫣

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the RE remakes.  It was nice to experience a modernized take on classic games, :-)

You know when you've realised that you've missed a whole world of gaming...most of my spare time has been playing CoD/Warzone because I didn't get much time to play so it was perfect for filling those 30-40 min gaming sessions

For some reason or other, I decided to uninstall it and see what else I had on my backlog/game pass and I'm starting to fall back in love with gaming

I recently finished Mafia 1/2/3 and A Little to the Left and am about 80% through Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

With the new Fallout series coming out, I'm getting back into Fallout:Shelter and Fallout 4. My friend has started Skyrim for (basically) the first time, and since we're in the office most days and I keep looking over his shoulder as he plays that's given me the itch to jump back into that as well.

I've been playing the absolute daylights out of Elden Ring.  I finally decided to pick Dark Souls Remastered back up in 2025 and fell in love, which is funny because when I first got it I got mad and quit.  After leaving the tutorial I wandered in the direction of the bell I heard ringing, found a graveyard full of skeletons and got murdered repeatedly, got mad and quit.  But for some reason I picked it back up a year later and actually quite enjoyed the game after I got my head on straight.

So anyway, after finishing DSR I decided to give "Elden Ring" a shot and I've been thoroughly enjoying myself.  I really like the open world and like Dark Souls, the combat is difficult, but rewarding.  It's not difficult in that it's unfair, it's difficult in that it doesn't pull any punches.  If you screw up, you can die just as easily from the weakest mobs in the game as you can a huge boss.  Once you press a button, you're committed to that action, you can't stop an attack mid thrust to throw up your shield, so if you time things wrong and leave yourself open, you're just gonna get hit.

The open world is actually quite a lot bigger than I expected to be honest.  Dark Souls was "open" in that you could walk everywhere basically without loading screens, but it felt like a long series of interconnected corridors where Elden Ring feels a lot more like a proper open world including everything from small caves to vast underground areas.  I've put over 100 hours in so far and I still don't have the whole map open, and it really doesn't feel like I've put that much time in to be honest.

I hated the "Souls" games on my first attempt, but I think I've actually fallen in love.  I'm also a big fan of the Elder Scrolls, partly because of its detailed lore, but it does feel nice to play a high fantasy game with a big open world, loads of lore and content that doesn't fall apart and send objects or people flying or glitching thru the floor if you look at it wrong.

You can see the screenshots I've taken of the game so far at: https://steamcommunity.com/id/gerowen/screenshots/?appid=1245620

AC Shadows. I bought this when it first came out, but it had a bug and kept crashing, so I returned it.I bought it again a couple of months ago, but only now had the time to actually play it. It’s a really beautiful game and feels great so far.

i also bought it, as i love the "ghost of" games and wanted more japanese surroundings.

however i got stuck in the first temple and kinda lost interest, and never got back to it.  i remembered how i got bored of all the other recent AC games... and this one looked more interesting.

i have to give it another go... i even enjoyed Mirage even though it was not the AAA entry, and i still want more japan.

I had missed playing through a shooty campaign so played through the BF6 one. It was a decent, but short. Lots of great moments and enjoyable overall.

Just finished of Planet of Lana yesterday on Xbox/PC. Such a simple game. Loved the puzzle mechanics, the music and art style!

Will be replaying Limbo next as it's a similar game and them straight into Inside.

I started Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and I'll probably finish it, but instead of just focusing on the narrative it's got all these side missions to go fight creatures and do things for Chad, and the handholds for climb-able areas are painted bright yellow like almost every other modern game seems to do, the movement feels a little clunky when you're out in a field exploring, so honestly I think I'm just gonna focus on the campaign and story and call it a day.  Maybe I'm burned out from 200+ hours in Elden Ring, but I'm not sure, I started NG+ on Elden Ring and it still feels fine.  The "open world" stuff in Rebirth and item/monster collection just feels like filler content to pad out the amount of time you have to spend getting everything.  I dunno, maybe I'll feel better about it if I sit down and put some more time into it, and maybe I just need to force myself to take a break from Elden Ring for a bit so I can appreciate something that isn't a FromSoft game.

Psychonauts 2 on PS5 Pro, no idea what to expect but it looks relaxing and fun.

Now Platinumed, such a fantastic game, now need to think of what to play but it needs to be something that takes advantage of the new PSSR2 update on PS5 Pro.

Just finished of Limbo. I was playing it on Xbox and given my achievements one that I had played before. I don't remember finishing it so it was a nice chilled playthrough over a few days to get to the end. Loved the time/physics puzzles towards the end of the game.

Just started Inside, already love it!

What a ride. Finished off Inside, loved the vibe of it and how many parallels it had to Limbo but went in a different background.

The imagery and sounds were great! Really sucked me into the game and then ending was just strange!

Need to see what else I have in my back catalog to get stuck into!

Any recommendations on similar games to Planet of Lana/Limbo/Inside would be appreciated!

Played through another short game, that had been recommended on a podcast that I listen to

and Roger on PC, first play through took me around 1 hour, but had some great storytelling and gameplay!

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
    • Hello, Hope all is well. I am in UK.
    • I'm not happy with myself for it, but I've gone and got hold of it. Just another 45 minutes and I'll be Bond, James Bond. In my defence, IO's Hitman series is awesome, and I'm a sucker for 007. So while it might seem a bit simplified compared to Hitman, I'm sure I'll be right at home.
    • Or just check the script yourself ^^. I hate having a Microsoft account tied to my windows install.
