WTF Jesse Jackson?

Recommended Posts

And he touched upon one of the more sensitive issues of the past week, the use of the word "refugee" to describe people forced from home by nature's devastation. Although the Webster's definition is "a person who flees from home or country to seek refuge elsewhere," many of the displaced bristle at the word.

Jackson suggested that it implies the evacuees are subhuman or criminals.

"It is racist to call American citizens 'refugees,' " he said.

So he thinks that people who come here from other nations to escape oppression are "subhuman" and "criminals"? He doesnt seem to have a problem calling them refugees.

What a racist a$$hole. Because I came here as a refugee long time ago, and am certianly not subhuman or criminal.

He should applogise for this.

Hold on,

Why whould he think that other people use the word refugee instead to mean animal/sub-human.

Unless ofcourse he himself thinks refugee means animal. And if he does then is wrong.

The few exrefugees i have met in my life fit the above description exactly

from Bosnia, Chile and Iran all escaping from political opression.

I agree that the word Refugge does not befit the people from new orleans - a better word could be hurricane victims or rescue victims or as CNN finally turned to (after much criticism from the black senate for using "refugee") Cnn now politically correctly calls them

Evacuees

got it?

now relax - breath in breath out

Except JJ is saying that calling someone refugee = calling them animal or subhuman. Which is clearly not true.

In other words he is saying refugee = animal / sub-human. Which is racist view to hold.

no problem man.

I just think asking "why would he think that..." would be better solved from him then us.

Oh, and Jackson is a moron...

and name calling really works things out? Thats the problem people dont try to figure out why but just turn to name calling like its going to help.

WTF JJ is such a moron! What is wrong with the word refugee?

refugee

One who flees in search of refuge

refuge

1. Protection or shelter, as from danger or hardship.

2. A place providing protection or shelter.

3. A source of help, relief, or comfort in times of trouble.

I would say the people leaving NO could be defined as refugees..

No it doesn't work anything out to call names, but I have little respect for the man at all. He has been an opportunist since his days with Dr. King and has done more to impede the progress of blacks than help. He blackmails companies for payoffs, had affairs on his wife and a child out of wedlock with her all the while "counseling" Clinton during the Lowensky affair. I maybe should not have called him a moron, as he may very well be intelligent enough, how about charlatan?

Finally put. In no way is 'refugee' racist.

I can't understand why he said that. I mean yeah, they aren't refugees, but saying that a refugee is a sub-human is un-true, and un-called for.

I heard a woman say on the news "Call us Survivors, or Heros". I have no problem with the term survivor, it's just Hero. How can they be heros by suviving a natural disaster? I know some of them are heros by saving the lives of others, but the majority would have been looking our for number one, and I have no problem with that, it's natural to want to save your life. I'm not provoking anything, just making a comment by what I saw/heard.

I frankly am becoming quite tired of how often the race "card" is being employed. There is a time for it, but this is definately not one of them. Really, the government has tried every since the Civil War to bring equality to minorities (with the Japanese as one exception which has been fixed). Look at it this way. Look at Asians. Many of them are sucessful and you rarely hear about racism practiced against them. Why? I am a firm believer that economic equality paves the way to social equality in terms of minorities. If you work hard and try to move up the social ladder, that is the best way to solidify your race's equality. Most of the problems people have with hispanics stem from illegal immigration. I think that some African Americans have carried the race grudge for far too long. Yes, in some areas you can still run into problems of racism. Trying to attact attention and force the government to give special breaks to a minority group is a terrible way to do it. It achieves the exact opposite. The time for large scale legal protection passed over a decade ago. If you really want to integrate, then integrate, not divide. If you keep claiming that you're being treated differently, well then people will really begin to think you are different.

indeed. (Y)

how is "refugee" racist? he needs to study his definitions and etymologies.

there will still be some subtle racism. as an asian-american, i still feel it sometimes. it might be as trivial as, "you have good english." but i hope that, over time, things like this will vanish.

how is "refugee" racist?  he needs to study his definitions and etymologies.

You can't blame him. He is a victim of a poor education provided him by the "white establishment".

The thing I find most amazing is that anybody still pays attention to him.

    • I used to use Google assistant, not on the phone i have now, but about 7 years ago, then I decided it did not really do anything for me. Because i had Echo units over the house I added Alexa to the phone to control stuff and that is how it is now. Not the new Alexa+, as that is not really available in the U.K yet apart from on new units and to be honest, not interested in it. I went though the stage years ago of using voice to do text and call people, quicker to do it using my hands. I had a muck about with Siri on my Mac when I first got it, but not having a microphone permanently plugged in makes it a pain. I know it can be used by text. Siri like Apple AI is disabled on my Mac and will stay disabled.
    • I have a TV, but it is not used for normal linear TV, only streaming and it is not a Samsung and the best bit is, I don;'t and never have had a Instagram account. The only thing I have to do with Meta is Faceache and I only keep that just for the messaging part.
    • But building your own.. what? You can't build anything like the Steam Machine yourself. Even trying to get close costs a good deal more. Even just the CPU cooler in their price comparison is as big as the entire Steam Machine. If you want a regular gaming PC, then by all means, build that. If you want a a small console-like PC for the living room that is good for gaming, I'm not sure what else is a better deal. In the GN review, they only mentioned a small form factor Dell, which is like twice the size and hundreds of dollars more expensive.
    • Those are some popular multiplayer games. But hardly "all". Just those that don't work on Linux currently due to specific anti-cheat implementations. I think it's also fair to point out the literally thousands of games that don't work on the PS5. And it's not locked at 1080p. That's the default, which you can change.
